please removed whatever script you have decided to put in place on AIBU, Chat and Brexit topics. It's choking typing to be 1/10th speed and making it nigh on impossible to type with any speed.

I'd guess it's part of a "bright idea" connected with similar threads. But it's shit and sub optimal.

Maybe get some grown up testers ? Because the kids missed this one.

Oh, us this why MN is so crap on longer threads? I am not changing to 25 posts per page because that would be a very frustrating experience. I have just come to accept that after about 300 posts, that thread is no longer one I can read. Crap really.

Ditto everyone else, I thought it my v old iphone se (safari & ‘see all’ user) or an issue with a particular topic (as that’s were the longest threads I read are usual from)

Glad it’s neither of the above and is a site issue. Hoping that means normal service will resume.

OTOH it is has helped reduce how much time I spend/want to spend on MN when little else (even adverts) has managed that <insert your own emoji as mine take too long to load>

You can choose the 100 posts per page setting. This is what I do now. I much prefer no pages, but it was just not workable any more. I wish MN would acknowledge as much.

I’m having issues too with longer threads. And it used to work fine all on one page. And often the typing lags horribly. So frustrating.

using Safari on iPad.

and while we are at it when will the capitalisation on new paragraphs be addressed?

I know I can choose 25 or 100 posts/page, but I don't want that. I prefer to have all posts in one go on one page I find it frustrating to change pages, and when I did try that in the summer I still had all the other issues anyway, so it didn't help.

It's not just on longer threads for me. I've just typed a post on a thread with only 150 posts and it was painful. Even here the typing is delayed.

Are we ever going to get an answer?

All of the problems started with the "upgrade", for many of us it's been a frustrating downgrade.

And after a day yesterday where MN ran quite well, it's worse than ever today. A page has just frozen whilst I was reading it.

I want to be able to read and post on threads, on one-page view, just like always (ie before the replatforming, and for a while since that happened, but shockingly bad for weeks now. And very noticeable right now as it's been a long time since there were so many long and active threads on the go)

I've been having the issue of crashing/freezing tabs, as well, but perhaps more annoyingly (and I believe for about the same period of time), almost any time I have MN open on my laptop, it sends my fan into overdrive. A constant, loud (extremely irritating) whirring that only happens when I'm browsing MN. After closing the MN tab, the fan noise quickly goes back to normal levels.

I found someone in an old thread complaining of the same issue almost a year ago, but I've only noticed it recently.

Hard agree. I've been having these issues ever since the update months ago.
From what I've seen from this and other threads, MN's been "looking into it" ever since.

I leave a thread unattended for longer than 30 seconds and it freezes and the page crashes. Again and again. For four months.

FWIW, I've done all the things usually suggested by MN here: cleared caches, tried various browsers, reduced to 25 posts per page (which is hugely annoying as a 'solution', btw MN) etc. etc. Nothing has fixed the issue, and since it's only happening on this site, and to countless people, it's fair to say something went wrong with the update, and MN clearly has no idea how to fix it.

I just wish they'd be honest and say that, instead of fobbing everyone off with the same message. If the 'view all posts' option no longer works, and you can't (be bothered to) fix it, how about you just remove the setting entirely instead of asking people to change how they prefer to use the site, as if it not working properly is on them?

Today has been worse than any other that I can remember.

There's absolutely no point in trying to load a thread with more than about 90 posts on it - literally no point at all.

Google Chrome on laptop, yes I've cleared all cookies etc and no I don't want to start using pages instead of one long thread.

I need to have one long thread because quite frankly the amount of threads that are deleted on a whim, has got ridiculous. At least when there's just one thread, you can read to the end without switching to the next page only to find the silly deletion message.

Using pages of 25 posts makes it much more of a faff to go back and check something you read, or quote it before responding.

Leading to an even higher % of replies being irrelevant/unhelpful, for example the classic 'how old is your child OP?' when it's right there in the first post. Ironically, making the threads even longer.

Hi all

We understand that this is frustrating but the only way to combat this at this moment in time, is to view less posts per page. We're still very much aware of the issue and looking into what's happening - so in the meantime, this is a workaround.

So you have amended the site to prevent viewing more than 25 posts per page while you fix (or "fix") the issue ?

The answer to that is telling. I'll leave it it you - and your users - to work out what it it tells though.

Exactly the same here! Freezing tabs and laptop fan firing up!

The typing lag is appalling, and doesn't happen on any other websites I use. Currently viewing this thread on a S10, using latest version of Chrome, and typing is a massive PITA as is deleting!

Oh yes I have this too, the bar gets stuck in the middle of the page and I have to justbose the tab and reopen a new one.

Again, this started with the "update" last year...

I don't think they have any plans to sort it out tbh. So many reports of problems but so little action! I'm a premium subscriber and have been since that started, but fuck this for much longer. It's almost unusable and isn't anything like the same site experience I signed up to pay a fiver a month for!
