New Talk launching tonight - please read!

Hello everyone.

After a bump in the road on last week’s attempt (sorry about that) we’re re-platforming Mumsnet Talk tonight. Because of this, the site will be down from midnight tonight (19/4) until 5am on Wednesday (20/4) morning.

For those of us resistant to change - don’t panic! The functionality of the site won’t change very much for now apart from some improvements to existing features like search and private messages. Our plan is to add more features/make updates once we are settled into the new platform.

However, there are a few things that you should be aware of before logging in tomorrow:

The first time you log on to Mumsnet post-replatforming you will need to remember your password. If you can’t (and let’s face it, few of us can) then you’ll need to reset your password. Sorry if that’s a pain - but it is the only secure way to do this.

You may need to update your browser. If you still view Mumsnet on an older browser you may experience compatibility problems with images, videos and links not working properly and you might not be able to post on a thread or fill in a form. To ensure you avoid these kinds of issues, we suggest you update your browser. Please click here for more information about re-platforming and how to update your browser.

And, not forgetting a massive thank you and unMumsnetty hugs to everyone who helped us test the new platform. You’re all stars.

But I've quoted my own post there so you can see what happens.

Hate the red posting names on the app and the fact that my own posts aren't in a different colour.

Plus the bookmarking isn't working on the app - a real pain in fast moving threads.

The face are not appearing together on the app - so it was hard to find

@MNHQ I'm not using the app and I don't seem to have an 'M' with the emojis

YY to why great big gaps between posts? Annoying for scrolling.
And why only using 1/3 of screen on the desktop?

Looks like the reply titles are now purple rather than red

There are a few glitches with the App - apologies for that - we're on it and working through them.

But it's not a few glitches!

There are loads of issues that testing surely should have caught?

And my replies are red, so that is one glitch fixed

Yes, just see that change now!

Has this been checked to ensure it's meeting accessiblity standards? It really doesn't look like it.

How on earth do you see more than one or two posts at the same time - and why are they all bunched up over to the left with so much grey space around the text boxes.

Plus everything else that pps have said.

MN - I hope you didn't pay a lot of money for this, it's spectacularly awful.

I've whined massively about previous new looks so I know I'll get used to this one, but even if the font is the same size, it does feel like there's much more spacing, so less to read on any one screen/more scrolling.

First few lines of active are blank (chrome on android phone and android tablet).

Also, when I tried to add a photo, it asked me to allow the use of audio????

Not keen on the red as mentioned by others, but it's the bookmarking not working which is annoying - it places the bookmark symbol but if you click back on the thread, you are at the OP regardless of where you bookmarked.

The huge spacing is not needed, makes the site much more difficult to read on a phone, much prefer a more compact look.

Oh phew. Posters names back to purple in the app. Thanks @mnhq, that's a start...

The font on "I'm on" and "Watching" is tiny - it's OK on active though

As well as losing all old bookmarks, have just tried making a new bookmark on this thread. When I go out of the thread and back in - no bookmark, just back to 1st post. Agh.

I’m not enjoying the big ad box that now permanently sits at the top of the page.

I have found that, in the absence of the X to close an image, you can close images by clicking on the ad box.

Lack of automatic capital letters on new sentences, full OP on every page, no colour change on threads I’ve opened is all annoying.

I do like the way user names using the @ function are showing up now.

Safari, iPhone, desktop site.

Also as I've just discovered new threads you've posted on don't automatically appear on "Threads I'm watching".

The spacing is the biggest problem. Who tested this and liked it? So much scrolling.

For a miserable old cow I surprisingly don't mind it. The only thing I'm not keen on is the OP coming up on every page, my memory isn't that bad.

This may be a daft or premature question, but nearly all of the talk topics are missing for me, they're just not there. Anyone else?

The ones I do have are Site Stuff and Special Needs and everything else is blank. I can see the category heading but no links underneath even when I click on the down arrow.

There's also nothing in TIO or my watched list and if I try to refresh or change the page in the windows that were still open on my laptop from yesterday, they just go to the 'Apologies, our server seems to be having a moment' message.

Looks like I might be having an enforced break, oh well, every cloud and all that 😆
