New Talk launching tonight - please read!

Hello everyone.

After a bump in the road on last week’s attempt (sorry about that) we’re re-platforming Mumsnet Talk tonight. Because of this, the site will be down from midnight tonight (19/4) until 5am on Wednesday (20/4) morning.

For those of us resistant to change - don’t panic! The functionality of the site won’t change very much for now apart from some improvements to existing features like search and private messages. Our plan is to add more features/make updates once we are settled into the new platform.

However, there are a few things that you should be aware of before logging in tomorrow:

The first time you log on to Mumsnet post-replatforming you will need to remember your password. If you can’t (and let’s face it, few of us can) then you’ll need to reset your password. Sorry if that’s a pain - but it is the only secure way to do this.

You may need to update your browser. If you still view Mumsnet on an older browser you may experience compatibility problems with images, videos and links not working properly and you might not be able to post on a thread or fill in a form. To ensure you avoid these kinds of issues, we suggest you update your browser. Please click here for more information about re-platforming and how to update your browser.

And, not forgetting a massive thank you and unMumsnetty hugs to everyone who helped us test the new platform. You’re all stars.

Infant delete the "real" emojis... When unless back space, it just highlights them..

I preferred the option to select "next" rather than just a page number. A small thing, but I did use that option all the time.

When selecting from the drop down. If o type them from my keyboard, they're fine.

It's really poor that that's your reply - surely you tested this before launching the new platform. Users shouldn't have to reset everything if this was done.

I'm always perplexed how MN - which has the revenue to do it properly - struggles so much with fairly straightforward fixes.

So I've gone into settings.

My posts and OP's were both set to ForestGreen (oddly)

There's no option for Red - which is how mine previously appeared in the app.

I've changed the colours anyway, logged out & in again, and so far, don't see any difference.

So mine plus other posters are still in red, no differentiation.

I don’t see the option on that screenshot for emojis, I’m on iPhone on mobile site.

Also active isn't refreshing - everything on my active list has replies from an hour ago as their latest post and I know threads have moved on! Have tried swiping up on my phone then going back into the app and it's still not updating the list!

So I clicked the triangle to go to a post. And it brought me to a bookmarked post not the one I clicked.

this wasn’t very well tested. I don’t mind change. Or even one or two glitches. But this is pretty bad.

Thanks @KatyMumsnet, I've just checked and my colour settings are the same as they were - but in the app everyone's names are in bright red.

Me too And all my bookmarks are lost in threads I'm on or threads I'm watching

There are a few glitches with the App - apologies for that - we're on it and working through them.

I appreciate there's always going to be some glitches when making changes, but a lot of the glitches are really obvious. Surely even a small amount of testing would have uncovered them?

The deleted post on this thread is still showing you need to sort that ASAP really.

Just to clarify that is one of the many ancient threads showing in active on the app

I'm on my PC and it is very, very bright. White text boxes on a pale grey background. Not even vaguely pleasant too look at, it is horrible. Lots of issues with that, including buring out the screen and migraines.

On the App I seem to have a short trip in the Tardis (Android phone), for example none of the Site Stuff threads are howing at all and none of my bookmarks are in place. Yes I have logged out and back in again. I can't actually make nor tail of the App. I am abandoning it for now.

Most annoying thing for me is links from notification go to first page, first post, rather than last message read (iPad safari browser user)

I agree, it's very bright. A dark mode would be helpful.
