Hello everyone.

After a bump in the road on last week’s attempt (sorry about that) we’re re-platforming Mumsnet Talk tonight. Because of this, the site will be down from midnight tonight (19/4) until 5am on Wednesday (20/4) morning.

For those of us resistant to change - don’t panic! The functionality of the site won’t change very much for now apart from some improvements to existing features like search and private messages. Our plan is to add more features/make updates once we are settled into the new platform.

However, there are a few things that you should be aware of before logging in tomorrow:

The first time you log on to Mumsnet post-replatforming you will need to remember your password. If you can’t (and let’s face it, few of us can) then you’ll need to reset your password. Sorry if that’s a pain - but it is the only secure way to do this.

You may need to update your browser. If you still view Mumsnet on an older browser you may experience compatibility problems with images, videos and links not working properly and you might not be able to post on a thread or fill in a form. To ensure you avoid these kinds of issues, we suggest you update your browser. Please click here for more information about re-platforming and how to update your browser.

And, not forgetting a massive thank you and unMumsnetty hugs to everyone who helped us test the new platform. You’re all stars. Star

If you’ve got any questions or comments, please add them to this thread.

Thank you.

Is there going to be a refresh thread function? I used to use that a lot. Unless it's moved and I haven't spotted it?

Londongent · 20/04/2022 08:40

Definitely needs a change of colour once you have read a thread. I used to scan the page to see what was new that I haven't read.

SirChenjins · 20/04/2022 08:22

Has this been checked to ensure it's meeting accessiblity standards? It really doesn't look like it.

How on earth do you see more than one or two posts at the same time - and why are they all bunched up over to the left with so much grey space around the text boxes.

Plus everything else that pps have said.

MN - I hope you didn't pay a lot of money for this, it's spectacularly awful.

Yes it's been tested for accessibility but please let us know if there are any particular issues as it's something we're always looking to improve on. We've also extensively tested a beta version with users for a few months. We've got a few glitches (especially with the app) that we're working through now - not unsurprising given the size and complication of the legacy platform - and we'll get them sorted asap. Meantime apologies for any inconvenience.

Agreed - we're on this

AchillesPoirot · 20/04/2022 08:42

@JustineMumsnet the font on threads I’m on and active is tiny. And it makes it hard to read. And I’m only old. God knows how someone with sight difficulties would cope.

iphone. Safari.

prettybird · 20/04/2022 08:28

Also as I've just discovered new threads you've posted on don't automatically appear on "Threads I'm watching".

There is a Setting for that. I went back through all of mine, that one needed to be changed from the default setting - could be new!

Headachiest · 20/04/2022 08:46

Can we bring back 'Yesterday' and 'Today' as date stamps please, instead of the date?

prettybird · 20/04/2022 08:46

It would also have been helpful if this post had been "stickied" well in advance Angry. I only worked out what was happening by searching for "Site Stuff" Hmm

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 20/04/2022 08:47

@JustineMumsnet the most urgent one I can see is the brightness for PC users. THAT should have been caught by an Accessibility check. I have got my screen as dark as I can manage with the Apps I use for work, and this is still unbearably bright - I don't have any issue with eyesight etc but I can manage a minute or two before I start squinting at the screen.

So, alongside the App not working the 2 ways I regularly access the site are useless to me. I may not be back for a while. This is truly uncomfortable.

MissMarpleRocks · 20/04/2022 08:48

Ffs I’ve just lost a whole post when I went to the emoji - ridiculous. Can’t be bothered for the rest of the day.

VanCleefArpels · 20/04/2022 08:49

The “notifications” of new things added to threads I’m on is irritating. Can you make this an opt in feature rather than universal?

MinkyTunes · 20/04/2022 08:50

@JustineMumsnet As a PP has said, the screen is very bright and too white. I do have migraines, but it makes it very difficult to read. Whereas on your post where it is highlighted in blue, it is much nicer to read. Is there a way we could highlight all posts in a different colour (as well as the OP, our posts and MN posts?)
The spacing for paragraphs seems also too much

girlmom21 · 20/04/2022 08:52

The iPhone app isn’t working. Everything in active are zombie threads, “I’m On” keeps saying it can’t connect to the server and I can’t post on this thread to tell you about it without going on to the mobile website. All contributors except the OP are showing red.

C8H10N4O2 · 20/04/2022 08:52

Echoing the issues of other laptop/deskstop users I now see what looks like the old layout stretched out so that over half the space is blank page with posts stretched long and thin.

I'd have preferred a completely new layout to trying to force the old into a template which plainly doesn't suit. I've five different browsers on my Mac and its malfitting on all of them.

I assume bump and reset has been removed? Or is that another glitch?

Like others my settings disappeared which is annoying but at least fixable. Other "glitches" are less fixable it seems.

I agree with @EarringsandLipstick - every time changes are released the level of testing is poor. Many of the issues highlighted on this thread are basic everyday functionality.

Might be useful to have a defects page visible so that at least we know where something is accepted as a defect to be fixed and which are "features" we are stuck with.

Would you mind taking a screenshot Achilles (it's not a universal problem so would be good to see)

I no longer have the option to view all messages within a post on the one page. I work away a lot and often have poor internet access which meant opening a post would take a while, particularly when there are so many adverts. I preferred having all messages on the one page as it meant I only had to wait once for the page to load.

Can this be reinstated please?

I’ve also lost the automatic capitalisation of the first letter in a new line too, very peculiar…

Apologies, I’m on an iPhone iOS 15.4.1, using safari

[Testing - ignore me]

🙌Hmm

Yep I also can't close out of a picture once I've viewed it. I'm also distraught about the removal of "bump and reset" as my "threads I'm watching" is cluttered now as having 3 posts previewed for all threads makes me think I've new posts to read. Wish I could collapse ones that don't have new posts. .. i keep really old threads on my TIW!

HellyR · 20/04/2022 08:57

(I'm on mobile site on Firefox, Android)

i did Justine. It’s on the thread but here it is again - the text of each post is really small.

I'm assuming this thread is being monitored but in case this latest issue is missed:

Headachiest · 20/04/2022 08:58

When you are in 'Threads I'm On,' on a laptop, you can only click and go to a post by clicking the small arrow to the right hand side. That's a bit of a pain. Can you make it so if you click anywhere on the username or on one of the recent posts, it takes you to the thread?

We can certainly look at this Minky

Threads I'm watching - I'm seeing only 3, yet when I find the missing threads that should be on the list, they are marked as being watched.

Windows 10, Chrome, desktop
