New Talk launching tonight - please read!

Hello everyone.

After a bump in the road on last week’s attempt (sorry about that) we’re re-platforming Mumsnet Talk tonight. Because of this, the site will be down from midnight tonight (19/4) until 5am on Wednesday (20/4) morning.

For those of us resistant to change - don’t panic! The functionality of the site won’t change very much for now apart from some improvements to existing features like search and private messages. Our plan is to add more features/make updates once we are settled into the new platform.

However, there are a few things that you should be aware of before logging in tomorrow:

The first time you log on to Mumsnet post-replatforming you will need to remember your password. If you can’t (and let’s face it, few of us can) then you’ll need to reset your password. Sorry if that’s a pain - but it is the only secure way to do this.

You may need to update your browser. If you still view Mumsnet on an older browser you may experience compatibility problems with images, videos and links not working properly and you might not be able to post on a thread or fill in a form. To ensure you avoid these kinds of issues, we suggest you update your browser. Please click here for more information about re-platforming and how to update your browser.

And, not forgetting a massive thank you and unMumsnetty hugs to everyone who helped us test the new platform. You’re all stars.

The app is an absolute mess. OPs from one thread appearing in the next thread you click in. OPs missing completely when you click in a thread. Html appearing in posts.

And bookmarks not working at all.

I'm on a Samsung and having the same issue with images, once I've opened them there's no cross to the close the image. Only option is to use the back arrow which then takes you back you top the first page of posts.

Hi @ImAvingOops - the Mumsnet emojis are there - under the "M" when you click on the emojis icon

In the app:

All posters are appearing in red. The OP is in green and only mnhq posters are in blue. Please can this go back so the majority are in blue (red is a very angry colour anyway!) and just my own posts in red?

Threads I've posted on are no longer automatically appearing in threads I'm watching, just threads I'm on. It's annoying to have to manually select 'watch' after I've posted.

I had my talk settings so that the thread was flipped, so thw last post appeared first. Now on every post, the OP is appearing first then the latest post, so I’m having to scroll through the OP every time to get to the latest posts. If it’s a long OP this is awful. Is there a way round this?

Agree! I can't believe how many issues are already clear to all of us and it's not our job!

Bit gutted my older version of Safari doesn't work. Everything seems fine apart from not being able to type in the message box. Had to move to Chrome browser because my MacBook won't support further Safari updates. 😥

Not a big deal I suppose. I just have everything set up how I like it on Safari with favourites and most used sites. I don't like Chrome as much.

It feels like this has been tested on one operating system and someone's decided that means it's fine

The app is appalling. So far:

Quotes don't work properly
All the responses to a thread (including mine) are red even though I've changed this in my settings.
Posts from other threads I've responded to are appearing in threads I'm on
Emojis don't work properly and are all squished and blurry
If I click threads I'm on and then go to a thread it seems all muddled

Can you not go back to the old version until you've actually tested this properly? It's like a bunch of kids have just pressed the release button without checking it's safe!

I pay for Premium to opt out of advertising. Can this extend to the big blank grey box at the top of my screen which says 'Advertisement', please. It comprises about one fifth of my visible screen, so please remove.

Adverts HQ. Adverts at the top and in the middle. Everywhere really. Very annoying as I need to scroll past the middle ones in particular to get to the next comment/post.

I haven't RTFT so not sure if anyone has posted this - the colour of all posts, other than OP's, has changed to red. This was previously the colour of one's own posts.

Now OP is green, everyone else is red, can't easily see your own posts. See screenshot.

I’m getting ancient threads rather than the latest on the iPhone app theme and I’m on isn’t working nor is search!

I'm a bit confused what order the threads are in but I'm sure I'll work it out. I like the new typing box.

The sex and gender board is missing

There are entire sections missing - I posted on Fishnet last week and now there is no Fishnet! In fact there's only Pets and Doghouse!
Even when I go to Threads I'm On or I've Started, my thread doesn't show up.

Oh no, I can't hide threads form the "I'm on" page.... I hide them after I lose interest, all I can do is pin them.

Just glanced back through, thread, see this has already been reported!

It's really poor that that's your reply - surely you tested this before launching the new platform. Users shouldn't have to reset everything if this was done.

I'm always perplexed how MN - which has the revenue to do it properly - struggles so much with fairly straightforward fixes.

OMG, all my threads I'm watching are now showing as unread AND all of the bookmarks have gone

I can’t get unless I put [ ] round it. Like in the olden days. Only emojis that come up for me are the bog standard ones from Normal Life. 🙃
