Hello everyone.

After a bump in the road on last week’s attempt (sorry about that) we’re re-platforming Mumsnet Talk tonight. Because of this, the site will be down from midnight tonight (19/4) until 5am on Wednesday (20/4) morning.

For those of us resistant to change - don’t panic! The functionality of the site won’t change very much for now apart from some improvements to existing features like search and private messages. Our plan is to add more features/make updates once we are settled into the new platform.

However, there are a few things that you should be aware of before logging in tomorrow:

The first time you log on to Mumsnet post-replatforming you will need to remember your password. If you can’t (and let’s face it, few of us can) then you’ll need to reset your password. Sorry if that’s a pain - but it is the only secure way to do this.

You may need to update your browser. If you still view Mumsnet on an older browser you may experience compatibility problems with images, videos and links not working properly and you might not be able to post on a thread or fill in a form. To ensure you avoid these kinds of issues, we suggest you update your browser. Please click here for more information about re-platforming and how to update your browser.

And, not forgetting a massive thank you and unMumsnetty hugs to everyone who helped us test the new platform. You’re all stars.

Sooooo irritating on fast moving/long threads like this one

Fed up of the cookie consent screen every time I go on a new page so I’m not bothering any more. It’s just not usable

Hi all on accessibility, the site is designed to meet Level AA Conformance as a minimum. It's been tested against various screen readers and assistive technologies using the WAVE accessibility tool. These are the type of things we took into consideration:

Used proper headings, h1, h2 etc
Utilised aria labelling where necessary (popups, dropdowns, hidden content etc)
Ensure colour contrasting meets AA requirements
Used image alternative text
Ensured all buttons/links have text labels
Removed tables from content
Layout is simple and consistent
Ensured all text is legible (style, size)
Ensured forms have labelling and highlighting where necessary

However it's clear from your posts that it's not working as well as before for everyone and we're keen to make it better - we can certainly look at introducing a dark mode for instance and we'll make sure to test it with those who've said they're having difficulty with the new site.

I'm getting this error message every time I try to tag someone. I've lost numerous posts because of it, it's exceedingly irritating. The new format for the site is shockingly bad.

I also keep being asked to allow Chrome to record audio every time I try to add an image on the new site - why?

I've gone to the effort of attaching screenshots but I don't know why because the new format means they're so tiny they're almost impossible to see. 🙄

introducing a dark mode is only one teeny, tiny thing - so many other issues have been highlighted which you don’t appear to have addressed.

how on Earth did your testing miss everything raised and who allowed it to be released in this state?

and can you please sort out the lack of automatic capitalisation at the start of a new paragraph please!

Automatic capitalisation and auto correct is not a Mumsnet feature, it is down to your web browser or keyboard if using a mobile device.

My watched threads and threads I'm on have totally gone on the iOS app. Can't get them at all, just get the 'no internet connection' message even when I'm on Wi-Fi. Can't post a thing either, just get an error message.

The website version... just terrible. Really strains my eyes, too much blank whiteness, very hard to see who's commented on what. And like many PP, it's very annoying seeing the original post at the top of every page.

Website crashes constantly when I try to post on it - I have to type a sentence, copy it, carry on, save etc. Ridiculous. Logs me out all the time too even with 'keep me logged in' ticked.

I'll be leaving too unless these issues can be ironed out sharpish.

Something in MN is overriding it then, as it works fine everywhere else. It just isn't working here.

Yep. Exactly this. It worked before, and now doesn't. And works everywhere else. So it's an MN issue.

Those of you who can't see all the boards in the topics list, are the missing boards the ones you've hidden from Active?

@Anomalocaris I've just checked this and no, I don't have anything hidden, but Site Stuff, Special Needs and another minor topic or two are all I can see.

If I log out, they're all there. But then I can read, but not post...

All my watched and previous TIO are also gone.

I've even changed my password, because the old one, which previously allowed me to log in, didn't have a capital letter in it, so I thought that might be it, but it isn't.

Bookmarks still not working and I'm getting all sorts of zombie threads coming up in active. They are the same zombie threads that were there yesterday.

Just updating to say that now that Active has been changed, I no longer have the font size issue. It appears that it was the bold that was missing rather than the font size being smaller. Looks so much better with the blue and white as well.

The only thing I’ve found that I’m still not happy with is the new search. I do think it’s much better than the old one (including Advanced) but my main issue is only having the slider to set the date range. I use an iPad so no idea if it’s any different on different devices but it’s just not possible to set precise dates using the slider alone if the search brings up lots of options going back years. Would be much better if we still had the option to enter dates or click ‘yesterday’.

This tiny, narrow strip for text on desktop (how I always use MN) is horrific. Endless scrolling. That in itself is an accessibility issue. The extra spacing between and within posts just compounds it. It does like they've just dumped a mobile view on the desktop. Can there not be some sort of responsive web design so that scaling is appropriate to the screen? I thought that was pretty standard these days.

This may have been discussed, apologies as I don't have the patience to read 25 pages, but why can't I choose a page of a multiple page thread. As I'm catching up on a TV show I wanted to catch up withe the thread, but I want to go to page 25 of 39. There's no quick way to get to it any more.

I would just like to know if the thing with the notifications taking you to the first post is going to be fixed or whether that's what's happening now.

It would be really appreciated if MN would actually communicate with us about what's happening and what they're planning to do. I can't believe there was nothing but this one thread!

@beastlyslumber , click on the arrow that looks like this > to the side of the post you want to go to, and it takes you there - from Threads I'm On, anyway. Is there a problem with email notifications not going to the specific post? Haven't tried that yet.

Sorry @mumsnet - you need to RTPV - revert to previous version. There's too many issues for you to sort while this is live. Revert, sort and relaunch when it's much more robust.

These are the two versions of Active Conversations, from app and mobile site, taken at same time to illustrate differences. The sticky thread titles would not load at all.

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl - have you tried signing out of the app and signing back in again. That's what I had to do.

Although it would have helped if there had been an error message - or if they'd generically signed everyone out

I want to know this too, why is choosing a page not a thing?

Also on so many threads the whole thing slides to the side as if someone does a link or a large sentence with no spaces the bounding breaks. I've included a picture, not that it will do much good as the picture attachments are really weird and tiny now.

Exactly this.

All problems the same today. Including Active Threads containing threads from 2017, which people are posting meaninglessly on.

Even if MNHQ could create stickies updating the situation, it would be helpful.
