Why has Stratters been banned for reporting suspected Trolls as per MN policy?

SoPassRemarkable · 07/08/2017 10:23

Long standing, sensible poster.

Says she didn't troll hunt on the threads but reported. And has been banned for over reporting? Hardly her fault if there's lots of trolls to report?

Totally puts me off reporting any suspicions I have.

Re-registering is very easy but MNHQ should not be banning members for reporting trolls whilst not actually banning the trolls once they are found out.

Maudlinmaud · 07/08/2017 11:16

Banned for reporting? Surely not. This makes no sense.

PelorusJack · 07/08/2017 11:26

I wonder if a lot of long term posters have had a week long for troll hunting though. I have. It was fair enough. I had had a warning and then a few months later forgot about my promise not to troll hunt and troll hunted again. I asked the OP for clarification several times on a very popular thread. I dont have a problem with it. It's MNHQs site and the rules are clear 🤷🏻‍♀️. I guess the reason it happens to the long term posters is because they are the ones most likely to spot troll threads and they are on the site a lot. I'm on a lot but name change so you won't recognize me.

I report anything and everything I think is a troll but I wouldn't bother repeatedly reporting the same thread. Although I have done when there are new developments.

Even when I've reported things I'm not sure about and have asked MNHQ to let me know if I'm over reporting they have always told me to carry on reporting.

OnionKnight · 07/08/2017 11:31

But MNHQ can't tell everyone to report anything suspicious and then ban members because they hit an arbitrary number of reports.

The only circumstances I can kind of understand banning members is when their reporting is relentless and they won't give it a rest even when asked to.

MadnessAbounds · 07/08/2017 11:32

I wouldn't bother repeatedly reporting the same thread

8 reports in a week, no. 8 reports of the DK thread over 3 months, when the emotional pull and eventually the financial pull was being ramped up all the time? Completely reasonable, especially as Stratters says she was giving clear evidence, not just reporting a hunch.

Aridane · 07/08/2017 11:33

Didn't Stratters also message individual posters who were invested in the thread (literally) to warn them about it being a troll? Could this have led to the ban?

SoPassRemarkable · 07/08/2017 11:35

@pelorusjack Stratters didn't troll hunt on thread though. She reported to mnhq so totally different.

OP posts:
SoPassRemarkable · 07/08/2017 11:36

Yes she did message individual posters. But if I've got it right from what she said she was banned last week following reporting a different troll to mnhq. Nothing to do with the current infamous case and quite a while after privately messaging people about that one.

RoganJosh · 07/08/2017 11:36

Wonder how long this thread will last?

Mrsmartell08 · 07/08/2017 11:38

They've banned stratters!!??
Wtf has happened to mn!!??

PelorusJack · 07/08/2017 11:38

OP. - sorry, I wasn't suggesting Stratters had been troll hunting. I mentioned it as a reason that a lot of posters were getting week bans. I also wasn't saying there is anything wrong with multiple reports of the same thread if new information comes to light.

PearlyPinkNails · 07/08/2017 11:38

I know several old timers who have been permanently banned recently.

It's a real shame as they are genuine, good folk.

SoPassRemarkable · 07/08/2017 11:39

pelorusjack. Got you. Smile

OP posts:
SoPassRemarkable · 07/08/2017 11:43

Maybe mnhq count PMing people as troll hunting. Though I would see it as a responsible thing to do when people are handing over money. She wasn't shit stirring on the thread but trying to be responsible and prevent people being ripped off.

I'm not for one minute suggesting that older posters be given free rein to do what they want but I do think when someone has been on MNas long as Stratters and overall have a reputation for being a good egg that mnhq ought to take that into consideration that if it is considered naughty to PM someone realise she was doing it for the right reasons not for being a goady shit stirrer.

Stratters says she reports a lot, but that she's never been wrong once!

OP posts:
AuntieStella · 07/08/2017 11:43

Presumably this thread will be deleted.

Now, I get that it's their site, their rules.

But when things go badly wrong for posters who do follow the rules, it is (to put it mildly) unsettling.

GinIsIn · 07/08/2017 11:46

MNHQ have now popped up on the David thread still running saying they didn't ban anyone for reporting. No mention of stratters....

SoPassRemarkable · 07/08/2017 11:47

She says she hasn't messaged anyone since Spring when the David threads first appeared. She had no idea he was still about as doesn't read the Charities boards.

So if banned last week after reporting something else, unrelated it does sound like she was banned for reporting.

OP posts:
CatThiefKeith · 07/08/2017 11:47

You can't ban Stratters ffs. She's lovely, kind and very very sensible. She is usually the voice of reason on threads. She can't be banned, the site needs her and more like her.

SoPassRemarkable · 07/08/2017 11:47

What David thread is still running?

OP posts:
SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 07/08/2017 11:50

I'm astonished Stratters has been banned, that's bonkers. She's always been one of the most kind and reasonable posters here.

MadMags · 07/08/2017 11:51

I don't see a David thread still running?

MadMags · 07/08/2017 11:52

You know, at some point the press will get hold of this. It's not hard to cover your arse by sticking "allegedly" in front of something and then running it.

Threenme · 07/08/2017 11:52

Are David and Jan the ones where he was posting about his wife dying and then about a week ago that she'd died?
