Why has Stratters been banned for reporting suspected Trolls as per MN policy?

SoPassRemarkable · 07/08/2017 10:23

Long standing, sensible poster.

Says she didn't troll hunt on the threads but reported. And has been banned for over reporting? Hardly her fault if there's lots of trolls to report?

Totally puts me off reporting any suspicions I have.

I verified my account immediately and have had no problems posting, right from the start.

ScrambledSmegs · 07/08/2017 20:16

Damn you Saucery, I searched and looked and now it's half an hour later!

mejon · 07/08/2017 20:22

In view of the fact that MNHQ are able to see PMs, it may not be the best idea to ask for one but I've been back at work today after 2 weeks off, and have missed everything so don't have a clue what's happened (apart from the lovely Stratters being banned) so if anyone would kindly update me I'd really grateful .

MadnessAbounds · 07/08/2017 20:28

HQ shouldn't look at PMs unless they have a very good reason to, so you should be safe for an update. Sorry I don't have time to do it myself.

I used to have a job role which involved investigating incidents and deciding whether or no they would be suspended/struck off, etc. A few is us did the role and like someone mentioned upthread there could be inconsistencies for staff depending who did a particular investigation.

So we soon decided that if one of us felt someone needed suspending, etc we would run it past a second person of the same job role to try and ensure it wasn't one person being heavy handed.

Maybe Mnhq should adopt the same policy? I'm sure to them banning someone is nothing....but for the banned person it could be a massive thing.

I may be totally wrong here but I don't think they ban for nothing. I've been banned twice over the years, once for troll hunting and once because I didn't agree with their stance on something. Both times I had a "warning". But saying that I don't understand HQ atm.

SoPassRemarkable · 07/08/2017 21:17

Been banned for not agreeing with mnhq stance is interesting.

Justine used to say she wouldn't delete threads which criticised MN, let alone ban people. As long as the person doing the criticising wasn't been rude to staff.

OP posts:
ConstanceCraving · 07/08/2017 21:18

I don't think I was rude just very frustrated and abrupt.

SoPassRemarkable · 07/08/2017 21:23

Then you shouldn't have been banned according to what the person who set this site up has said in the past. Sadly I don't think Justine has anything to do with the day to day running of the site. Not at that sort of level anyway.

OP posts:
CoolCarrie · 07/08/2017 21:25

I certainly think Justine is involved now!

Mychildcouldnotbreaatfeed · 07/08/2017 21:28

I don't think so.

She should be. But she's letting normal staff handle it.

SoPassRemarkable · 07/08/2017 21:38

Even If she is now it's too late. The damage has been done.

OP posts:
Mychildcouldnotbreaatfeed · 07/08/2017 21:39

Yip.

MsGameandWatching · 07/08/2017 22:08

Well I have seen Justine's handling of threads on certain sensitive topics after a similar blow up and she was dismissive and came across as though she couldn't care less. Nothing directed at me, I didn't post on the thread I am thinking about but there were a lot of people on that thread expressing surprise at how she was coming across and some of them got surprise bans a few days later.

I've been around for 11 years ish
Various nn
And how mnhq treat the vulnerable posters is a fucking disgrace
I remember riven
And others on the sn boards
And it's got worse
We are just click fodder
It's really important to remember that

I agree @Mrsmartell08 im enjoying Reddit I'm already missing the like button.

thepumpk1neater · 07/08/2017 22:32

I've had a quick look at Reddit. It's not too heavily moderated is it? There seem to be an awful lot of rules, similar to Netmums rules.

Imagine if everyone defected to Reddit? Shock

OlennasWimple · 07/08/2017 22:36

thepumpkin - Reddit can be as heavily moderated or unmoderated as users want it to be. For eg, there is one sub-reddit (what we would call a board on MN) that prohibits posters using it if they have also posted on one of the pro-Trump boards! Shock

Otherwise, sub-reddits tend to put up their rules about things like using appropriate labels (NSFW, spoilers etc) and delete posts that break these, but let most stuff stay up.

There are some nasty dark corners of Reddit, BTW - don't venture into the 18+ bits unless you are OK with porn (some of it not entirely consensual, from what I understand) Sad

thepumpk1neater · 07/08/2017 22:39

Ah thank you! I did join, I rather like the look of the layout. I think it will take some getting used to though.
