What actually are your plans to deal with disablism on MN?

JustAnothersilentorangenugget · 08/07/2017 16:20

You remember you were going to impliment all kinds of things, Message which explained posts were deleted due to disablism, Emails to the posters, proactive buzzwords...

a year on what has been the result of this massive change in moderation?

Now i'm not suggesting this was a carrot, dangled to try and stop people leaving....
But we donkeys ARE getting a little tired of walking and woudl like to know what plans are there for the future to stop attacks.

OP posts:
Samcro · 14/07/2017 14:42

a while back it seemed that mn hq were taking a hard line with disablism but then it changed. so we end up feeling let down.
I do agree that being rude to mn hq does people no favours, but I have not seen that on this thread. only people who are sick and tired of this.

we have gone backwards.

WorraLiberty · 14/07/2017 15:48

Worra, which bit of we have tried are you not getting?

Which bit of I know you've tried, but engaging with trolls will not make the matter any better, are you not getting?

There are two conversations running here.

One about disablism and one about people engaging with trolls on this very thread.

I'm discussing the latter.

Ramalamalamafafafa · 14/07/2017 15:49

Agree ignoring trolls is best way, although its hard sometimes.

Samcro · 14/07/2017 15:50

so why are we still talking about them?
or is this going to be another thread derailed and another waste of time

WorraLiberty · 14/07/2017 15:53

Because I was answering a post addressed to me.

sashh · 14/07/2017 16:21

Unfortunately, there just isn't a great deal we can do about it. We do ban them and block IPs, but it's very simple to get a new one or even 'throw' your ip, so that it looks like you're posting from somewhere else.

Verify by credit or debit card?

Anyone who wants a 'verified' account has to give details that can be checked such as you give when making an online payment.

You could still allow unverified accounts but suspend them all if trolling has occurred and have a 'verified' suffix to accounts.

bubblesbubbles · 14/07/2017 16:31

That wouldn't stop them then as surely they could just make another unverified one when their others get banned?

BishopBrennansArse · 14/07/2017 18:13

Right so how come that other site is so good at it?

bubblesbubbles · 14/07/2017 18:30

Technology wise I think its hard to compare the two, netmums is run via vbulletin and mumsnet seems to be more custom built for their needs, so they might not have the same tools/ease of using them, as they have to build them vs the inbuilt off the shelf that netmums uses.

They need to do something about moderation and banning, but I just don'tt hink it can be compared to netmums

BishopBrennansArse · 14/07/2017 19:10

The simple fact is that the tech exists.

Samcro · 14/07/2017 21:06

I think i have to give up, as i said earlier mn has hit an all time low
Now 9 th thread about a sick disabled baby, how the hell can that be on a parenting site.

i think this proves mn hq need more staff at the weekend,
during the week the troll was deleted very quickly. now left up
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/2980041-To-think-being-autistic-doesnt-stop-you-being-a-peodophile

and now on main board too

bubblesbubbles · 15/07/2017 08:46

Agree with Samcro, there has been multiple reports, I posted in nightwatch and yet nearly 2 hours later the troll posts and thread are still here. Better early morning/late night moderation needed too, its been this time last couple of days.

JustadaftProfessor · 15/07/2017 08:59

oh brilliant.

JustadaftProfessor · 15/07/2017 09:04

This has been happening all week, Why didn't MNHQ put more staff on today?

did they think he would magically take the weekend off?

JustadaftProfessor · 15/07/2017 09:05

Apart from "You are not worth more staff" of course.

Polter · 15/07/2017 09:05

Can everyone report that thread please, MN have removed the OP but left the thread which needs to go and they haven't changed the offensive name.

JustadaftProfessor · 15/07/2017 09:09

It's gone.

Nice that 'Disabledarsehole' as a username I sn't considered edit worthy

OlennasWimple · 16/07/2017 00:15

I'm a regular poster on FWR and the adoption boards, both of which have regular troll invasions. Engaging never ever ever works (though sometimes I don't heed my own advice, I admit)

I do think that MNHQ need to look into something like auto-hiding a post if it receives a certain number of reports, until MNHQ have a chance to look at it. I've seen hideous posts left standing for far too long, especially compared to sites like Reddit where offensive posts get zapped in minutes
