For the love of the wee man please do something about the ads

HQ. Please. Make a decision about the ads. Either make them less intrusive or give us an option to pay a sub and get rid of them.

I'm on laptop, mobile on phone and sometimes Ipad. They make the site unusable and I'm going to be investigating an adblock today.

I am sure that is not what you want - I understand the need for ads to generate revenue, but when they are so intrusive that they interfere with the ability to use the site then you've gone a bit too far in the wrong direction.

Also, I wouldn't buy anything that is advertised like that, in an intrusive ad that pisses me off, because instead of thinking fluffy warm thoughts about the product being advertised, I'm thinking "FUCK THE FUCK OFF YOU ANNOYING TWAT" which I am sure is not the intention of the advertiser.

Thanks for all the details and screenshots, it does help us figure out what's happening here and whether all these ads are as they should be.

I bloody hate the adverts and would happy pay a small fee for an ad-free site

First there was the Radox advert running down a vertical quarter of my phone screen, as well as across the top. It went that there were only about 6 words to a line!

Then, there's the adverts in the middle of a thread... There was even one on this bloody thread!

Another one who can't use MN out and about, as it's eating up my data allowance. I don't mind discrete ads, but these are so intrusive (and I couldn't even tell you what the ads are for, they just give me the rage)

Just adding my voice to the many in the hopes you might listen. I don't mind paying, in fact id love the choice to pay, but this way is just driving me away as it makes the site unusable.

I use adblockers because when I use safari on my ipad the page takes and age to load and the shite in the adverts really annoys me.

If I want to buy stuff I will.
Not through MN or a newspaper website though

We have been testing the site on various devices and cannot replicate any issues, can you please tell what devices you are using and how exactly it makes the site unusable, we will then try and replicate and rectify, I hope you can appreciate it is really hard to fix something if you cannot see the issue.

The moving ones, like the "choose your box" one that Littlefish has posted are the most annoying. It's like a visual assault - makes me feel a bit queasy. Do you know, MN, what percentage of your audience have adblockers?

I don't think there is an issue where issue means something not working as you (MNHQ) intend.

The issue is the sheer number and size of adverts which makes using the forums feel disjointed and incoherent. There used to be the banner advertising at the top, and one large one at the bottom underneath the reply box.

As of today there is an additional large ad above the reply box, and another in the body of the thread.

From what I have seen of the desktop screenshots the advertising there is now beyond ridiculous too.

I am using the mobile site on chrome on an android phone and I get adverts in the middle of threads, on every thread I look at. Not unusable just very annoying.
Occasionally I get the advert band at the top and side - it seems to appear randomly so I can't take a picture as it is not appearing at the moment, that makes the site unusable as it reduces the usable screen size so much.

It goes beyond irritating, I'm a bit clumsy and I keep opening the bloody things when I'm trying to scroll.

It'll be even more difficult getting mnetters to read the whole thread.

Hmm. This one seems to have gone now.

To be fair, people moan no matter what MNHQ try with ads. Maybe put together few options of what pages look like on various devices and have a vote? People will still complain no end though!

The ads are annoying but they don't make the site unusable and they generate the funds needed to keep the site going.

This is my view of this thread. 3 lines of text.

Using an S6, viewing the mobile site via Internet (not the MN app).

I have a banner at the top, that's fine. Mildly irritating but I understand it being there, raising funds for the site, blah blah blah.

Then slap bang in the middle of the thread I have this huge yellow box ad for Slissie (who are now known in my head as "fuck of fucking Slissie" which I'm sure is exactly what they wanted when they bought the ad space).

Then at the bottom I have another ad which again is mildly irritating but easily ignored.

As you can see from the screenshot with the yellow box I can't read the full post of the replies directly above and below it. This is what makes the site impossible to use thanks to these new ads, it's impossible to read because they make it disjointed and interrupt the flow of reading. It's really annoying.

And this is my current view of _Chat, I can barely see the thread titles as the screen is around 95% adverts.

And this is the ad above the reply text box that others have reported.

The ads occasionally vertically running down the right hand side, on the mobile site cause me to leave the page. It's that fucking nippy.
Am off to investigate ad blocker.
