For the love of the wee man please do something about the ads

HQ. Please. Make a decision about the ads. Either make them less intrusive or give us an option to pay a sub and get rid of them.

I'm on laptop, mobile on phone and sometimes Ipad. They make the site unusable and I'm going to be investigating an adblock today.

I am sure that is not what you want - I understand the need for ads to generate revenue, but when they are so intrusive that they interfere with the ability to use the site then you've gone a bit too far in the wrong direction.

Also, I wouldn't buy anything that is advertised like that, in an intrusive ad that pisses me off, because instead of thinking fluffy warm thoughts about the product being advertised, I'm thinking "FUCK THE FUCK OFF YOU ANNOYING TWAT" which I am sure is not the intention of the advertiser.

The ones in the middle of the threads are pissing me off!

myoriginal3 · 23/05/2017 16:53

it's the time it takes to load the cursed things that is driving me barmy. i'm sure it's eating into my data too.

JakeBallardswife · 23/05/2017 16:53

Now at the top and bottom. Really awful!

I'm also getting multiple random MN links in threads, between posts..

I don't have a problem with ads at all. But the 'all encompassing' ones are too overwhelming on the screen, take longer for the page to load and then I stick two fingers up at the advertiser. Not great feedback for the NSPPC though.

Just ran a test. This page is roughly 2.4mb (and took nearly six seconds to load Shock )

Catzpyjamas · 23/05/2017 17:12

I'm getting spaces where ads are possibly meant to be. Also Mumsnet pages aren't always fully loading which is what happened at the weekend just before the mobile site went screwy.

Highalert · 23/05/2017 17:21

My pages freeze until the Ads load.

LosingDory · 23/05/2017 17:25

That's an absolutely ridiculous ad size in the middle of the page! Just install an ad blocker

PatMullins · 23/05/2017 17:27

I've clicked on so much accidental shite today Angry

stuntcamel · 23/05/2017 17:30

I have a fairly elderly laptop and I find the ads with moving images particularly aggravating as they slow my laptop down so much and as another poster says, they make the screen freeze and lock up until they have done loading. Also hate the ones down both sides of the screen that move with you.

I've NEVER viewed any ad on here with anything approaching even mild interest, and some of them are so irritating they actually make me go out of my way to avoid the product / service being advertised.

Really fed up with the lot of them to be honest - yes, you do have to accept advertising, we understand that the revenue is necessary - but for crying out loud, please get rid of the worst offenders.

Highalert · 23/05/2017 17:33

I have an Ad blocker on my laptop. Not on my phone though.

PhilODox · 23/05/2017 17:37

I can only use MN on WiFi now, as it burns through my data allowance so quickly. I used to pay CAT, no problem paying a subscription now for no ads. It's just beyond a joke.

PhilODox · 23/05/2017 17:38

Btw, the other day, when there was an issue with posting on phones, I couldn't post (wheel of doom for ten minutes) yet the adverts could reload many times HmmAngry

EnidButton · 23/05/2017 17:41

Are they not meant to be there then? They're really bloody annoying.

That pic doesn't show the ad that runs across the top of the page too. I guess they're a permanent thing but I wish they didn't move. It's distracting. The page is far too busy. Often they're advertising stuff like new baby books or pregnancy tests which a lot of posters don't want to see when posting about losses or fertility problems.

I know there's more going on in the world but it's pissing me off today. It's like a slow drip drip drip.

Incidentally,@mychilddoesntlookdisabled your plea in thread title made me Smile

I concur. What the Jeff is with these random ones that have suddenly plonked themselves in the middle of threads.
If you need ads for revenues place them at the top or bottom so we can ignore them.

Lightheartedindeed · 23/05/2017 18:16

Since I so smugly said get an ad blocker I've got massive great gaps where I assume the ads should be...only started in the last couple of hours
