SLOW! It's so fucking slow now, I can't even get long threads to load any more

Let alone post on them.

It's beyond a joke now, vast swathes of MN are now totally inaccessible to me. Can we PLEASE sort this out?

iPad and both safari and Firefox

Yeahfine · 06/03/2017 09:31

I've given up on my iPad now. Not only is it not loading and freezing but I can't get on to any other websites and I have to switch the iPad off and back on to do anything else. Complete pain. I am on the app now but not the same.

B1rdonawire · 06/03/2017 09:34

My ipad is too old for adblocker but I followed PPs advice and turned off javascript - ran like a dream! Can't post, but at least I can read.
(Had to wait until this morning and access to laptop/chrome before I could post. This is becoming WAY more effort than it's worth.)

AngieMumsnet · 06/03/2017 09:40

We are working through all our partners at the moment, sorry it takes an age to go through each one but we are working on it.

Batteriesallgone · 06/03/2017 09:44

Still bad for me but I think a slight improvement. More just freezing rather than total white out blank screen and 'safari can't load...' the freezing still makes it pretty unusable though

are you all using safari?

Has anyone seen the issue on chrome by any chance?

TooDamnSarky · 06/03/2017 10:04

Things are mostly ok on safari with my 2 year old phone.
But the site is unusable on safari on my ancient iPad.

minipie · 06/03/2017 10:11

Glad it's not just me. Can no longer use MN on my ipad (2012) - haven't tried adblockers/javascript off.

Phone is just about ok but slow.

Derlei · 06/03/2017 10:12

Anyone accessing the site on Safari on their iPhone and finding that navigating on the site is completely sucking the battery life?? I've been on other websites fine but as soon as I spend 15 minutes on mumsnet going through different threads my battery drops about 60%!

SoupDragon · 06/03/2017 10:13

I think I tried to access MN via chrome before I installed the ad blocker on safari but couldn't. That was a few days ago though.

TooDamnSarky · 06/03/2017 10:17

Turning off javascript has fixed it for me

minipie · 06/03/2017 10:19

I'm using Chrome and it's fine, but it's on my work PC so rather a lot of computing firepower there...

SoupDragon · 06/03/2017 10:19

Actually, I've just been to check chrome again and I now remember that I didn't let me go to a log in page so I couldn't use it.

Becca19962014 · 06/03/2017 10:32

deleri it's the autoplay ads that eat batteries (and bandwidth if you are on mobile internet) which is what I am finding since MN started allowing autoplay ads instead of static/optional play.

Actually the site was much better before they allowed autoplay ads (and that includes the MN ones).

MissDemelzaCarne · 06/03/2017 10:34

I'm on my iPhone! Smile I had to turn it off last night as MN killed it.

To soon to say if any improvements as it used to work for about 10 minutes before the problems started.

Thank you for the updates though MNHQ, they do help.

Becca19962014 · 06/03/2017 10:37

I meant to add to my last I cannot get chrome.

WhoKn0wsWhereTheTimeG0es · 06/03/2017 10:40

I'm on 3g again (Safari) and it's fine again now.

AngieMumsnet · 06/03/2017 10:44

WhoKn0wsWhereTheTimeG0es

Amazing news, can anyone else confirm?

B1rdonawire · 06/03/2017 10:54

Chrome was always fine. Safari has been the major problem. Just turned javascript back on to test as per your last post - it's a lot better but still hangs at a half-blank page for 5-10 seconds before slowly filling. But it's not completely frozen and the page does load, so that is definite improvement. Tested it with loading Active threads, and picking a random thread with 6 pages to click through - I didn't scream and chuck it across the room while waiting, so my blood pressure thanks you for the progress Grin

Now - what did you do? I think I need to know after the weeks of rage!

AngieMumsnet · 06/03/2017 11:04

B1rdonawire

LOL!

I am just working through all partners but there is no logic right now, it is intermittent and I am thinking it is one specific partner causing this but finding this one culprit is hard, we are trying to recreate the issue here but sods law it is working ok at the moment, I am not confident the issue has gone away but please be assured we are treating it with great urgency.
Just to put it into context we directly work with 3 partners but they then reach out to hundreds...so that is the problem...

Becca19962014 · 06/03/2017 11:07

I've the same problems using 3G, which is what I mainly am forced to use anyway due lack of reliable 4g.

BoreOfWhabylon · 06/03/2017 11:11

Angie these problems with Safari have been occurring for years and are getting worse/more frequent. There's athread currently in Site Stuff that was started in 2013 (I was on it). and I've been on many similar threads since. The problems are exactly the same. Pages not loading, hanging, entire browser freezing.

Even during the periods when the problems are less troublesome, they are almost certain to occur around 1am on most nights.

Becca19962014 · 06/03/2017 11:13

angie a suggestion, it may also be to do with memory/bandwidth being taken up by autoplaying ads in some cases and not enough memory left to then access the forum. Is there anyway to turn off the autoplaying ads and see if there's still an issue?

I've had intermittent ad scripting errors, and gateway timeouts and other access errors since you began using autoplay ads (I've reported these previously, and given tech a headache as they couldn't replicate).

Good luck!

Becca19962014 · 06/03/2017 11:14

If you're using gateway ad providers that would compound issues as well.
