Let alone post on them.

It's beyond a joke now, vast swathes of MN are now totally inaccessible to me. Can we PLEASE sort this out?

iPad this morning. It's not just Individual threads; won't load my I'm watching page either.

steppinstone · 05/03/2017 08:28

Mine freezes a lot and doesn't load about 1/4 time. I have to close safari on iPhone and reopen it. Ad must be making it hang.

ColdFeetinWinter · 05/03/2017 08:31

Same as steppinstone. When it freezes the first 2cm of page loads and then that's it and you can't use that safari tab to look at anything. Close it down and start again. I'm on the verge of leaving again as too much of my life is wasted waiting for pages to load.

That would make sense Voyage because when it's slow for me, if I then try and post somewhere it's game over

"MNHQ aren't being particularly communicative"

Yes, the lack of communication is not good.

Post-Jeffery (?) there was discussion of how to communicate with those who use your site when there is a major incident and in the aftermath. All the good practice advice is to keep updating (even when there is nothing to say) just so people know you're working on it. Assuming of course that there are people working in it....

Perhaps the lack of communication is simply because this doesn't reach MNHQ's threshold for being classed as an important enough issue?

IPhone 6 and safari and the site became unusable for me too (and also slowed down my whole phone at times). Finally installed adblocker last night when it was particularly bad and it seems to have solved the problem. Worked straight away.

Could one of MN's ad thingies have contained malicious coding do you think? It has been so damaging if the site just doesn't work, and so many people have had to stop using it.

It's got to be something to do with the ads and ad tracking.

I think it's this. Although mine was fine the morning before I installed the ABP app, I have not had a single problem since.

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 05/03/2017 09:53

Agree with soup

I tried installing the update to the ioad 1st...and i dont like what its done to the the rest of the functions Hmm

And it didnt help

Only the ad blocker worked

AnguaResurgam · 05/03/2017 10:01

"But surely if as a company your product basically stopped working you'd want to resolve it?!"

It's only stopped working for Apple users, and many of us have now resorted to using an Adblocker. So there are still lots of people posting.

"Or at the let your customers know you were working on the issue."

Yes, that is well known best practice.

MNHQ have chosen not to adopt that practice (frequent updates, even when nothing to say; including when next update will be). Either because they do not see this as a serious problem, or because the group of affected users is not important enough to mean the threadhold for 'exceptional event' communication.

It's their site, their choice.

MNHQ are always weirdly silent when things like this happen.

helpimitchy · 05/03/2017 10:58

They're Appleist, that's what they are Angry

JazzFunk · 05/03/2017 11:01

Mine was being ridiculously slow (ipad - safari) until I tried installing the Adblock Plus free app (was mentioned somewhere back on this thread).

My ipad is now perfectly whizzy again, and the best bit is - no annoying ads Smile

Megatherium · 05/03/2017 11:05

Given the prevalence of iPads and iPhones, I doubt that this is only affecting a small subsection.

helpimitchy · 05/03/2017 11:12

Does anyone ever click on the ads anyway?

Pinkheart5915 · 05/03/2017 11:31

Still no change, iPad still freezes when loading as a webpage.
The app works fine although it's not the best app I've ever used.
I'm not downloading an ad blocker as I shouldn't have to in order to use the website

JennyHolzersGhost · 05/03/2017 11:38

For anyone still struggling - Adblocker works (as I've just said on the other thread).

On the issue of communications and crisis management strategy, I and several other MNers have offered MNHQ advice on this several times but it is clearly not wanted. I'm happy to repeat it again if they would like to hear it but I CBA typing it all out just to have it ignored again ! Meantime I'd suggest Adblocker is the most practical thing users can do to mitigate the problem.

For those of you whose systems are too old for Adblocker - are you sure there isn't a similar product in the App Store which works for older operating systems ? Worth a look.

rumblingDMexploitingbstds · 05/03/2017 12:20

Having fixed the ipad via Adblocker and the experience being so very much better, I'm now looking sideways at MN on the laptop where the jump is enormous every time the page loads and I either lose what I was reading or click on the wrong thing....

MissDemelzaCarne · 05/03/2017 12:34

They're Appleist, that's what they are Grin

And technophobeist

Megatherium · 05/03/2017 13:15

Surely it's not in MN's interests to be in a situation where the site is only usable for a large proportion of its users by installing Adblocker? I wouldn't have thought their advertisers would be too impressed.

HarlotOTara · 05/03/2017 15:17

Xmystic iPad is 4 years old and all the ad blockers I have tried are not compatible"

Does anyone know if an ad blocker which works on older iPad

PuppyMonkey · 05/03/2017 16:23

Have people with older iPads/phones tried updating to the latest iOS? - that's what I did yesterday and then I downloaded adblocker and all is well now.
