Update to webchat guest colours

Hi,
This is a heads up that we're soon to introduce a change to the colours used to highlight posts on desktop and mobile.

If you've been around long enough to have the old style customised colours this won't affect you.

For newer users - we needed to add some new web chat guest colours and retire the awful mustard yellow we used in the past on desktop webchats. As a result of that we then needed to update our other colours too.

Thanks all

Jessica I'm sorry but I really don't understand as best I can see the colours from the old days are still being used but I'm horrid insipid colours that are difficult to spot and reasigbed in some cases. Can't you just change it back to the way it was. Or give us a customizable option? This seems like change for the sake of change I'm afraid.

ShelaghTurner · 11/10/2016 15:31

My post there is next to a MNHQ post and they both look the same colour to me Sad Why so pale, I don't understand.

MiddleClassProblem · 11/10/2016 15:35

I had forest green and lavender blush before (for a few months now) and now they are just a pale squib it's so hard to spot my posts and OP's posts.
I tried changing them since the new colours to olive and dark lavender but it didn't change anything! It's awful!

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 11/10/2016 15:38

I've tested mobile site on my laptop just to make sure I'm not whinging about next to nothing, but, the OP, my and everyone else's posts are almost indistinguishable still Sad When I was reading on a mobile device earlier today I actually thought there was something wrong with its screen.

Please MNHQ when you get an idea to change things, bear in mind that an awful lot of people have varying degrees of visual impairment of one kind or another and good design of a site means it must be useable.

Diggingmywayout · 11/10/2016 15:40

But....but.... Why are they so pale?

Mummylin · 11/10/2016 15:43

The new colours are really horrible and so wishy washy, I fail to see how people who have very bad sight will be able to tell one shade from another. Come on MN think of the folk who have a medical problem with their sight.

strawberrypenguin · 11/10/2016 15:43

Nope I always use mobile site and have for ages now. My posts were purple, OP dark grey and MN blue. They now aren't.

I had green and purple on mobile so maybe that's why. But god knows why you'd choose colours that you can barely see for the new ones! The yellow barely shows at all.

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 11/10/2016 15:48

I had grey for OP & mauve for me too. I can barely see the magnolia.

Please can Tech change mine back too? Do they need cakes?

Didijustgetwinkpointshitcanned · 11/10/2016 15:49

It's actually hurting my eyes because they keep trying to blend it with the white of the posts around my post. So my eyes start going stupid trying to turn all the white yellow or turn the yellow white.

SpookyPotato · 11/10/2016 15:50

I don't understand why you would pick such awful light colours, it looks terrible and is hard to use. Some changes are good but this one is just weird and backwards. Let us pick some nice bold colours!

Taylia · 11/10/2016 15:52

MNHQ

I customised on mobile site. I can't access desktop site at work and there's no point in trying to view desktop site on a phone.

A few people have said that.

No ones complaining that you've had to make a change, they're complaining about how pale they are and that the colours are different on mobile.

Surely the colour pallet can be made available for both versions of the site?

kali110 · 11/10/2016 15:53

Ive been here for few years and customised through mobile too! Mine were purple and pink!
Now i have no idea who has posted what!
For people with site problems this is impossible!

MyBootsAreMuddy · 11/10/2016 15:53

Really not liking the pale colours, they're so washed out and don't stand out as much as the old colours. I had mine customised as the dark purple and the forest green and the stood out and made scrolling for quick updates easy.

TheDrsDocMartens · 11/10/2016 15:55

My customised have gone too.
I can't tell the difference if I'm scanning now.

kali110 · 11/10/2016 15:55

Ioh and i've gone onto the desktop site on my mobile and i cannot change the settings as the option is no longer there!
You know not everybody acess forums through their comp/tablets?
How many times are you going to update this site?

kali110 · 11/10/2016 15:55

Sorry sight problems*

dancerdog · 11/10/2016 15:58

I just read a full thread thinking that the OP had posted once and then sock puppetted for the next few pages. Then I realised that OP 's posts were in a not exactly white shade. And that MNHQ posts are in a similar, but not quite the same, not exactly white shade. Will find out in a minute what shade of not exactly white my own posts are.

Please fix!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 11/10/2016 15:59

I have my colours set as forest green for op, and lavender for me (MNHQ) appears in blue.

The colours used to be identical across the desktop site and the mobile site. The colours on the desktop site have not changed, the ones on the mobile site have.

dancerdog · 11/10/2016 16:00

Oh right, I should have guessed, a similar, but not exactly the same, shade of not exactly white that the other 'highlighted' posts have.

Highlighting implies making something stand out!

hels18 · 11/10/2016 16:01

Personally I much prefer it. Much more subtle and easier to get away with when reading at work!! ;)

OurBlanche · 11/10/2016 16:02

You know not everybody acess forums through their comp/tablets?

Those of us who never us the mobile sites are having the same problem, kali! Tis weird and unpleasantly pale Smile

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 11/10/2016 16:02

Screenshot shows site in desktop view as it is now, and as it has always been. Mobile site also used to use these same colours, now doesnt.
