After the SN-not-in-Active-Convos but only in own link thing...

I never see any, because old habits die hard, and I keep clicking 'Active Conversations - All Topics'.

And I think that's a real shame.

Is that just me being dense and lazy ? It's obviously not hard to click the other thing...

I just wish it was integrated into the normal 'view' you get. I don't want to not be able to see it.

Am I alone ?

but soapbox it's not the first time is it? If this is just how she is then maybe she needs serious professional help with anger management. If it was a one off and out of character then I could maybe see it, but it isn't, and IMO telling people to f* off back to their little club is just not on IMO, however stressed you are.

I know Wannabe - I'm just trying to be a teeny bit kind - sometimes it's the least deserving who need it most

hmmm hunker but its the judging in the first place that pees me off personally- I know I get particualrly peed off because of the nature of ds1's disability- where he looks utterly normal but behaves bizarrely. The RL tut tut brigade piss me off beyond measure, so I get equally peed off at snapshot judging going on on here- no-one really know what is going on in the life of someone seen feeding their child an XXXX. Also for a while there was mass hysteria over things like fruit shoots, which in the great scheme of things......well do they matter? (and I don't have fruit shoots in the house because sweetners turn 2 of the kids into loons- but I'm not going to pass out if the other one has one when out and about). I get fed up of either having to be continually tutted at or muttered about (which is what normally happens), or having to explain myself repeatedly to strangers (I very rarely do that- partly because its not practical if I'm going to keep ds1 safe- he requires ful attention, I can't stop to put some bat straight.). On here there's a chance to say "yes but...." all the things that people maybe want to say in RL but never get the opportunity to say.

The Africa thing was very relevant to me last week as a friend has recently come back from working in Africa. Listening to her has made me change my mind about all sorts of things- hearing her talk has been powerful, god knows what it was like being there.

It's not so much that children have things like Fruit Shites - it's that manufacturers think it's OK to make these cheap products full of shit and market them so aggressively at growing bodies - that's my bugbear with them.

Have to say am utterly disgusted at QofQ's and I for one hope she doesn't return.
How she has conducted herself on here is appalling and she should be thoroughly ashamed of herself

Turns out I didn't need Tech at all to find these stats - but I've only just realised this, so apologies for my tardity...

We took SN out of active conversations on Weds 18th Oct. The week before this, from 10th-17th Oct, the Special Needs boards got 17,401 page views. This is versus 18,421 in the week from 31st Oct-7th Nov which is the most recent full week that includes the same days... so traffic has increased by about 6%.

I suspect that the balance has changed a bit - fewer casual viewers, more views by parents of special needs children, but of course I don't know this. What do those who are using the board feel? Our aim was to make the SN board more functional for those it was designed for, so we hope growing traffic will be an indication that this is working. We'll continue to keep an eye on the stats, which will be more conclusive when we've a longer period to compare.
Best,
MNHQ

Thanks Justine. I'm using it more (and therefore the site as a whole more, or at least it feels that way). It seems a bit busier to me, and there have been new people postiing this week so I don't think people are particularly struggling to find it.

coppertop · 14/11/2006 23:13

I've been using it more often too. I also agree with Jimjams about there being more new posters on there too.

Interesting.

Justine, do you know if your discovery of computer geniusness can extend to:

Number of SN threads started in each of those two periods ?

Number of posts posted in the SN topic in each of those two periods ?

Would be interesting.

Oh, also I guess one needs to know how any other topic did in the two periods - ie. was all traffic up 6% IYSWIM. (I dunno - Chat / Health / Pregnancy / Mens Room / Whatever).

(I think it was Sleepy Jess who said I was so obsessive it was sweet LOL).

sorry but have to ask (as I will wonder for ever
Why? just don't get the interest in what is going on in sn,

Report
coppertop · 15/11/2006 23:06

I've just done a basic search and according to the results:

during the 1st period Justine mentions there were 413 messages posted in SN.

during the 2nd period there were 500 messages posted in SN.

I haven't looked at any more recent periods but it certainly feels busier on the SN board just lately.

(Apologies in advance if I've got the figures wrong)

hub2dee · 16/11/2006 08:29

Assuming your numbers are right, coppertop, that's an even bigger increase than the 6% page views ! Also - the 500 figure might be capped by the search script IYSWIM (it does when searching posts by individual name for example). I repeat though that one would need to consider the numbers (if one is being anal) with other topics to confirm it's not just incredible general MN growth IYSWIM.

2shoes - are you asing 'why' to me (re: the numbers) or just in general ? If it is to me re: the numbers, I wouldn't like you to wonder for ever, LOL... I'm asking to see if the changes have adversely affected the traffic to the topic area perhaps by making it harder to find. It appears if anything, the topic is busier, which is a great sign, with new people and a better atmosphere (from what ct / jj have posted), which can only be good.

I have been posting in there more since the change - mainly since (Twiglett I think) pointed out that there was no reason to feel like I shouldn't post in there.

More stats for Hub:

Oct 10-17 SN page views: 17401, site page views: 1,729,274
Oct 31-nov 7, SN page views : 18421, site page views: 1,573,122
Nov 8-15th, SN page views: 16033, site page views 1,680,811

So it's as clear as mud! Still think we need a longer sample period as a few folk being away could make quite difference.
