Messages all vanishing and now strange new 'report this post' boxes coming up.

Are you tinkering? Smile

OP posts:
Twiglett · 21/04/2006 14:00

think it should say something like '[email protected]' or 'checkthisoutmumsnettowers'

report this post is too schoolmarmy

Kelly1978 · 21/04/2006 14:00

rhubarb, I've said that too, and if they are going to implement an email form anyway, they can jsut request the time of the post in question. Easy!
I appreciate that moderating is tough work and it is necessary to make the job easier, but surely it can be done without such extreme measures?

tamum · 21/04/2006 14:02

They could just ignore all reports that didn't give the full details Wink

SaintGeorge · 21/04/2006 14:03

The amount of time JJ took over this last night I'm actually surprised it doesn't say 'If this Fing thing doesn't work this time I'm lobbing the bard PC through the window'

Report this post is quite mild considering,

OP posts:
Kelly1978 · 21/04/2006 14:04

lol Grin

mommie · 21/04/2006 15:37

'report this post' makes me feel ashamed for posting anything, however anodyne

Flamesparrow · 21/04/2006 15:38

Not read whole thread, but I am soooooo wanting to click!!! Grin What happens if you do? Do you get taken to an "are you sure your really want to" page? Otherwise DD may end up reporting people Blush

expatinscotland · 21/04/2006 15:38

same here.

REALLY don't like this.

nailpolish · 21/04/2006 15:39

it just takes you to outlook flamesparrow

i couldnt resist clicking

SaintGeorge · 21/04/2006 15:42

Read earlier in the thread if you don't use Outlook as your default email.

OP posts:
Flamesparrow · 21/04/2006 15:43

Ahh, tahnkyou. I can clikc in comfort now Grin

Flamesparrow · 21/04/2006 15:44

Shock I seem to have a case of coditis!

LipstickMum · 21/04/2006 15:47

I agree with Rhubarb's post at 1:52pm. a 'reporting the thread' link and then focus in on a post. I don't know, I'm scared enough to post here nowadays for fear that whatever I say will be mis-interrpreted, mis-understood, or I'll be harrassed for spelling mistakes or picked up by the punctuation police Sad

Ledodgy · 21/04/2006 15:48

LipstickMum you missed the full stop at the end of your sentence. Wink

LipstickMum · 21/04/2006 15:51

Damn. I double checked as well. Ya see!!?? Wink Scared shitless.

expatinscotland · 21/04/2006 15:53

I agree, Lipstick.

SaintGeorge · 21/04/2006 16:17

The trouble with a 'report the thread' link is that it doesn't focus in, it is not much different to just using the contactus link. The whole point of this link is that it does the focusing automatically.

OP posts:
JoolsToo · 21/04/2006 16:19

yeah some threads are 1000 posts long! Grin

SoupDragon · 21/04/2006 17:08

What on earth are you all worried about ffs?? It will make no difference to you as it's the same as the "old" set up. It will cut down the number of posts saying "oooh, I think this should be deleted!" "Why hven't MN TOwers deleted this yet?" or threads started called "Please MN TOwers delete the thread that says..."

It will however make it easier for MN TOwers to home in on which post is apparently causing the problem and desicde whether it is indeed offensive enough to be removed. It's not going to result in 100s of more deletions and it's not an increase in the level of moderation of the site.

mykidsmum · 21/04/2006 17:10

I agree with SD this seems almost hysterical and I just really don't get why?

CHICagoMUM · 21/04/2006 17:12

Well said Soupy. I think there is an air of paranoia sweeping over this site today.

dinosaure · 21/04/2006 17:14

Thank you Soupy. The voice of reason.

SoupDragon · 21/04/2006 17:14

OK, as an example of how this is different to "report this thread, \link{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=1374&threadid=166073&stamp=#3469110\this link,} created by the "report a post" link reports a post made by me and my post is right at the top of the screen. \link{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=1374&threadid=166073\This} reports the thread but you have to wade through to find the highly offensive post made by SoupDragon on Friday, 21 April, 2006 12:00:09 PM.

SoupDragon · 21/04/2006 17:15

In fact, it is a useful feature for when you want to refer to a specific post in another thread - simply click "report this post", copy the URL and paste it as a link in the other thread.

Kelly1978 · 21/04/2006 17:16

I disagree, by having so visual on every post, it is making it more easily available and I think it will increase the numbers of posts that are reported. I dont think it is paranoia, I've always liked the easy going approach of mn, and this doesn't fit in with that.
