Messages all vanishing and now strange new 'report this post' boxes coming up.

Are you tinkering? Smile

Oh,not good, not good at all. Sad

SoupDragon · 21/04/2006 10:43

It's just a blimmin link not a flashing ticker!

beetroot · 21/04/2006 10:44

dont like report this post..think it is horrid

zippitippitoes · 21/04/2006 10:45

like on the back of vans/lorries

it says well driven? and the phone number

what about fair comment? Grin

JoolsToo · 21/04/2006 10:59

I don't see what's wrong with it. We probably won't even notice it's there after a while.

It would be useful for posts like the one yesterday that was clearly advertising in the guise of a genuine post (bankruptcy).

I can why some of you are worried though! GrinGrinGrin

joke! joke!

hub2dee · 21/04/2006 11:00

I think it should be in brackets, or a symbol, and I don't think the table divider between the two resulting cells is needed. Also, I think it will result in an awful lot more spam to the contactus address as google caching will present hundreds of instances of the e-mail address to spam harvesters.

(all a bit geeky I know). Blush Smile

LadySherlockofLGJ · 21/04/2006 11:03

It lacks punctuation. Grin

LGJ legs it.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~#

morningpaper · 21/04/2006 11:26

Just "report" would be ok

Kelly1978 · 21/04/2006 11:59

If you jsut need the url then surely it isn't necessary to have it on every post then. Report this thread would be enough, wouldn't it?

SoupDragon · 21/04/2006 12:00

The link refers to the exact post though - saves wading through the entire thread.

spacedonkey · 21/04/2006 12:00

Each link has a post ID on it so that MNHQ can locate the exact post

Kelly1978 · 21/04/2006 12:04

ok, they could put a link to report the thread, which goes to a email form and one of the fields can request the time of the post in question. That would also solve the problem of not using outlook. Smile That wouldn't be so much hassle and better than having mn looking like something out of 1984.

Rhubarb · 21/04/2006 12:12

I'm reporting Sherlock for being rude and answering back to teacher!

LadySherlockofLGJ · 21/04/2006 12:13

Sorry Miss. Blush

lanismum · 21/04/2006 12:25

i really feel the need to click it, for no reason at all...............................Grin

Rhubarb · 21/04/2006 12:26

I'm reporting DC, he called me a knob gobbler!

JoolsToo · 21/04/2006 12:26

isn't this a bit like what colour shall we paint the living room? ask 100 people and get 100 different answers.

I don't think they're asking for our advice Grin

Greensleeves · 21/04/2006 12:28

I think it's horrible. It will lead to lots of petty reporting and it spoils the tone of MN. IMO. Sad

SaintGeorge · 21/04/2006 12:57

I don't think it automatically goes to Outlook - it goes to the default email programme on each PC, so if you don't like Outlook change your personal defaults.

JJ took ages working on this last night, trying to help MNHQ have a little bit of an easier life.

OP posts:
SaintGeorge · 21/04/2006 12:59

I've just checked that - it does go to the default email, so just change in Internet Options to your preferred programme.

OP posts:
spacedonkey · 21/04/2006 12:59

That's right StG, and it will work for the majority of people. I think it's a good idea, and well done to JJ for doing it. It wouldn't be hard to replace the clunky text with a small icon, so hopefully she could do that when she has time?

JoolsToo · 21/04/2006 13:02

SG - can you help me - my email internet options doesn't list my 'favourite' how do I get it to select my own email?

TIA Smile

hunkermunker · 21/04/2006 13:10

Doesn't list gmail on there.

spacedonkey · 21/04/2006 13:11

No, this is the problem, afaik it won't work with webmail, just programs like Outlook etc

SaintGeorge · 21/04/2006 13:11

Tools
Internet Options
Select Programmes Tag
Insert email programme in relevant box
