Messages all vanishing and now strange new 'report this post' boxes coming up.

Are you tinkering? Smile

JJMumsnet · 21/04/2006 00:15

Hee hee, it's me - if it were tech it'd work perfectly the first time. :)

JJMumsnet · 21/04/2006 00:16

Yeah, it'll be here soon - maybe not tonight, though.

JJMumsnet · 21/04/2006 00:19

It didn't work - but am still trying and will give it a couple of more goes before I throw in the towel and go crying to Tech (he's used to it..)

JJMumsnet · 21/04/2006 00:22

Have just done StG - it'll be live in 2 minutes. Let me know if I've messed it up!

JJMumsnet · 21/04/2006 00:27

My goodness, my2pworth, did they really say that at your school?

Think it'll work out fine and be easier for us as the link to the post in question will be in the email to contactus.

JJMumsnet · 21/04/2006 00:54

No - it'll be fine. But here we go again - apols if I take down Talk for a few minutes (starting at 0:56)...

JJMumsnet · 21/04/2006 01:03

I keep taking it down because it doesn't work... sigh.

JJMumsnet · 21/04/2006 01:42

Use it to report a post in the beginning to middle of a thread and I'll let you know (please.. would really like a test of it!)

JJMumsnet · 21/04/2006 01:47

It worked! Thanks StG.

Ok, so now we have the ability to report posts - just click the link and Bob's your uncle (not my dad, Bob, just some generic Bob, I think...)

:)

JJMumsnet · 21/04/2006 01:53

The exact post - wahey! Will make it much easier for us, really. Thanks for doing that.

JustineMumsnet · 21/04/2006 10:34

Hey everyone,

We completely understand your concerns but do bear in mind that just because a post is reported it doesn't mean it breaks our forum rules and we'll do anything about it. It is however, very helpful to us to receive an exact url when people feel there's a problem. Often a member writes in and wants us to delete something urgently (usually something they've written in error) and will say for example "it's in Chat - the thread about my husband" which can take a long time to locate! It's so much quicker and easier for us to have the url to hand and on the odd occassion where there is a troublemaker on the loose then we'll know very quickly.

We're not trying to encourage folks to "sneak" on eachother - more trying to make the system we use now - ie self-policing - work better and more efficiently. Maybe there's better language we could use though instead of "report this post" - something that sounds less officious - any ideas?

JustineMumsnet · 25/04/2006 11:04

Thanks for all the input. (No really Grin). We'll set to work on a suitable icon and/or smaller and less officious text.

To all those with fears of increased intervention, please be assured that isn't our aim, merely a more efficient response on the few occasions when intervention is required. We can happily report also that we haven't received a discernable increase in reported posts as a result of the change.

We do hope that those who are still anti will get used to it and approve of the toned down link when it comes. It really does make life a lot simpler for us (and we think the site will be better run for you too).
Thanks for understanding,
MNHQ
