Why are some members of this site allowed to get away with persistently being vile, pushing an agenda, defending the indefensible, upsetting other members, twisting versions of events and generally being nasty, and they do not get banned?

Not about any one particular poster, but I have noticed that some stronger "personalities" on here seem to be Teflon coated.

Why is this?

Why do the owners of this site want that kind of vile poster and do not seem to care about the number of truly decent kind posters who are being upset and driven off the site?

I think I was on the thread.
Were you being told off for being whimsical when life is full of serious shit and Ghandi was a cunt?

It's hard to tell with you sometimes. You may be referencing a previous line of lively discussion or you may simply be announcing a sudden idea which you must swiftly share. Never just posting random bollocks though. Never that.

ExitPursuedByABear · 05/07/2012 15:46

I think Eric would make a good Ghandi.

He was thin

(Oh no, I can feel a joke coming on)

Hullygully · 05/07/2012 15:47
Grin
Hullygully · 05/07/2012 15:47

i don't think whimsical was absolutely the word but I'm sure it is what was meant

hathorisaskingaquestion · 05/07/2012 15:48

I should have been clearer ThisWeek I wasn't having a pop at you, I was just wondering what cyber-bullying was, if it wasn't someone constantly having a go on here.

And I should point out that I have every sympathy with anyone who is bullied in RL. And yes this is words on a screen and we can switch off and go somewhere else.

But that's the point I've been trying to make since the start of this thread. That what you are doing in saying "hide the thread, ignore, and if you don't like it go away" is condoning the actions of the bullies.

And I'll say it again HQ - you need to be careful what you wish for. People like me are getting driven away. Not just me, there's more than me going.

What sort of site do your advertisers want? What sort of site are they going to want to be associated with and want to pay to be on?

Because, at the end of the day, that's what matters for MN. The money in the bank. It's a business. Not a community, a business.

And I for one don't intend to forget that ever again.

Hattie won't be able to perform as Eric Sykes died and, whilst dead herself, she is too upset (as I am)

That is genius, it's like a line from Alan Bennett Grin

ExitPursuedByABear · 05/07/2012 15:48

As in Lord Peter?

Hullygully · 05/07/2012 15:50

Oh hath

they love us as well

like big mummy cloud parents

hathorisaskingaquestion · 05/07/2012 15:51

If your child was being bullied in RL - verbal abuse, and secret notes being passed - and you went to the school.

And the school took days to come back to you and eventually, when they did , said "Well we can't tell you what we're going to do but you have to trust us that we'll do something"

And the bully was still carrying on.

And the bully was a well known member of the local community.

And then the advice from the school was to take your child out of the classroom every time the bully started to attack them, and in the end they said "take your child somewhere else, it's a big world, there's lots of other schools"

Would you think the school were being pro-active and acting properly?

Or would you think WTF does that bully have that I don't.

It's a community as well as a business. Without he community, there wouldn't be a business. And the members of the community have a bigger voice than the advertisers, thankfully.

Pagwatch · 05/07/2012 15:52

Ooh there's a thought.
Hully and Alan Bennett would be a fabulous team.

ExitPursuedByABear · 05/07/2012 15:53

But do they love some more than others?

LeB0F · 05/07/2012 15:54

And also, Hathor, we aren't children, we are adults. We have to take responsibility for our own interactions, surely?

ExitPursuedByABear · 05/07/2012 15:55

Any martini left?

hathorisaskingaquestion · 05/07/2012 15:56

LeBof - I know it's not a perfect analogy.

I know we are adults.

But some people can still be bullies.

And it's not an even interaction, in that HQ are looking and watching and "in charge" of who does or doesn't get deleted or ticked off.

I get irritated by the constant comparisons of mainly-female websites to schools and playgrounds. It is very infantilising, and arguably sexist. And Gandhi was a bastard.

ExitPursuedByABear · 05/07/2012 15:56

You can always switch off the computer though.

None of this is real.

Is it?

hathorisaskingaquestion · 05/07/2012 15:57

Well I'm using school as an example because I know how anti-bullying policies work in school.

I am not familiar with how they work anywhere else so I cannot use another comparator.

Tee2072 · 05/07/2012 15:58

Of HQ are watching. It's their site. This isn't a Democracy. It's a dictatorship.

And, no Exit. You're all in my head.

Hullygully · 05/07/2012 15:58

I think you did have a bad time hath, whatever we call it.

But the good thing is that now you are here, and we are here, and we can all love each other and stand shoulder to shoulder against the malfeasance and that bastard Gandhi.

LtEveDallas · 05/07/2012 15:58

And the school took days to come back to you and eventually, when they did , said "Well we can't tell you what we're going to do but you have to trust us that we'll do something"

I think a lot of schools do that actually. The bullies are 'punished' but the punishment is not publicised.

Hullygully · 05/07/2012 15:59

The thread is about to fill...

LOVE LOVE LOVE dah dah dah

hathorisaskingaquestion · 05/07/2012 15:59

And try saying it's not real to someone who is sitting in tears over something that's been said on here, or someone who is hurt and cut to the bone over an attack that is made on here.

Try telling that to parents who get support from here.

Or the people who have made friends from here.
