Why are some members of this site allowed to get away with persistently being vile, pushing an agenda, defending the indefensible, upsetting other members, twisting versions of events and generally being nasty, and they do not get banned?

Not about any one particular poster, but I have noticed that some stronger "personalities" on here seem to be Teflon coated.

Why is this?

Why do the owners of this site want that kind of vile poster and do not seem to care about the number of truly decent kind posters who are being upset and driven off the site?

I don't know, I am on the fence.

She was a complete numpty on that irish cottage thread, and really pissed people off. I think the sentiment is the same with this thread. I don't know if she doesn't know if she is winding people up of if she is disingenuous. But I think the blitheness when called on saying offensive statements is what is annoying.

amillionyears · 05/07/2012 10:08

ShirleyKnot, some people would be very happy to pay, might solve many of the problems, for MN and for posters.

hathorisaskingaquestion · 05/07/2012 10:08

We used to have to pay for CATs didn't we? £5 or something?

Oh heck, this is still going on.

OK few points.

  1. If it hadn't been a known poster talking about punching her husband and the rest, yes she would have been jumped on, but hang on, that poster WAS jumped on and the thread WAS deleted, so the argument that they got away with it because they are "known" falls apart.

Actually, they have it harder as if they had been 'unknown' no bugger would be remembering their name and using it as an example, which kind of proves that it can be worse to be 'known' IYSWIM.

  1. If asked to name "Royalty" no two lists would be the same from mumsnetters.

  2. Knowing some people who may be on that list, I know damn well that they get bollocked by MNHQ, so the teflon thing is rubbish too. I come back after a 6 week break to find out that one of my favourite posters has been banned. Now that sucks, but she was "known", so make of that what you will.

  3. Not everyone wants MN to be more moderated. I was on netmums for years before I landed on this site and believe me, heavily moderated is a complete pain in the arse as you are basically at the whim of the moderator and if they don't like you, you're screwed. At least here they're fair, no matter what you think.

Anyway pinot is right and I am going to shut my cakehole.

usualsuspect · 05/07/2012 10:10

Don't mention the Irish thread, I got a warning from MNHQ for my part in that Grin

QuickLookBusy · 05/07/2012 10:10

I think the thread should have been deleted because it was talking about attacking your partner in a light hearted way. Mnhq agreed it was meant to be light hearted. That really angered people. If it hadnt been a well known poster Mnhq would not have agreed it was meant to be light hearted.

Throwing a frying pan at someone's head.
Pulling the thing that holds the car bonnet up, off so that the car bonnet lands on the person looking at the engine.
Taking aim and punching someone.
Disclaimer: these are from the thread in question, NOT one poster.

What the fuck is light hearted about any of these?

AmberLeaf · 05/07/2012 10:10

Lots of people me included also said to her 'you have a problem you need to get some help' it wasn't all attacky, but she still came back sneering so its no surprise people kept on.

hathorisaskingaquestion · 05/07/2012 10:11

I don't think, and from this thread plenty of others don't think, that they are fair though, baby

OP posts:
usualsuspect · 05/07/2012 10:12

I think quite a lot of posters do get the stern e mail , they just don't tell everyone on MN they have received one.

Hullygully · 05/07/2012 10:13

I THINK THEY TRY DAMN HARD TO BE FAIR

ShirleyKnot · 05/07/2012 10:13

Equal amounts of posters have said that they feel they are fair though hath.

usualsuspect · 05/07/2012 10:13

I think they try to be fair as well TBH.

Hullygully · 05/07/2012 10:14

I think possibly if someone else had made jokes about frying pans etc they might have got it away with it MORE.

It's becasue she is who she is and winds people up that they are delighted to put the boot in.

ginslinger · 05/07/2012 10:14

and sometimes people gloriously misread threads and then gnaw on one tiny bit for hours. Hully's thing about writing a play on some thread or another is good example of misreading and gnawing.

Hulls if you really are writing a play then I apologise and instead accuse you of being Alan Bennett and claim my £10

hathorisaskingaquestion · 05/07/2012 10:14

Usual - possibly.

And, as I think I said up thread, maybe HQ need to have a sticky that spells out exactly what the sanctions are.

Or something.

Because I for one have reported and reported and reported, waited days and days for a response, the response has been "trust us to deal with it" and in the meantime the poster is still carrying on.

And I am still reporting.

But it's obvious nothing is being done, because the poster is still posting the same sort of shite

OP posts:
Hullygully · 05/07/2012 10:16

hath- you had a bad time at eh hands of a partic group of posters, as have others with others.

But that doesn't mean MNHQ don't send emails and try and be fair. You might not know about them.

Sometimes horridness stays within guidelines.

ginslinger · 05/07/2012 10:16

Yes Hully - absolutely (suck-up emoticon)

And LeQ has had an amazing amount of shit thrown at her over the years.

traffichalter · 05/07/2012 10:16

I think they need at least one MNHQ staff member who has some kind of higher ed qualification in an aspect of psychology, so that they can recognise mob behaviour, passive aggression and the rest. I think often the problem is naivety on the part of MNHQ staff. They genuinely don't see what's going on.

Hullygully · 05/07/2012 10:16

I am writing a play.

It's got tomatoes in it.

amillionyears · 05/07/2012 10:16

babyheaves,I realise that MN royalty do "get bollocked",be MN.
But it is very evident that there are at least 2 sets of rules going on.

hathorisaskingaquestion · 05/07/2012 10:17

But if the emails they were sending were doing the job they're supposed to the shite posting would stop

The fact that it doesn't proves that whatever HQ are doing isn't enough.

IYSWIM?

And to delete 3 or 4 days too late is pointless.

The damage is done.
