Why are some members of this site allowed to get away with persistently being vile, pushing an agenda, defending the indefensible, upsetting other members, twisting versions of events and generally being nasty, and they do not get banned?

Not about any one particular poster, but I have noticed that some stronger "personalities" on here seem to be Teflon coated.

Why is this?

Why do the owners of this site want that kind of vile poster and do not seem to care about the number of truly decent kind posters who are being upset and driven off the site?

I was hounded off here at a time when I had

A fucking idiot of an ex to deal with

His family slagging me off and saying horrendous things to my children

I have CN1 cervical cancer cells

I was pregnant

I had a miscarriage.

I also have to have (different) gynae surgery and another operation to sort an ongoing problem I have.

My mother has cancer.

My father has cancer.

My brother is an alcoholic and a total and utter manipulative pita

My dearest uncle died.

So think on that before you post slagging someone off or attacking someone. Just think. They might have a whole load of crap going on in their lives that you don't know about and you might just might be doing untold damage.

Ok, 'fraid I have to do and sort some domestos.

Hath: v happy to continue this on mail, if you'd find it less bruising. I'm not sure if I'll be at MNHQ tomorrow but, if I'm not, I'll make sure everyone knows your mails need a prompt response.

GnocchiNineDoors · 04/07/2012 20:35

I don't understand the mass hysteria of some posters when people give opinions on stuff they DONT like.

Take for example, the "names we dont like" thread....some posters on there where mortally offended at the fact that someone else dislikes names that start with a K. So what? Who actually gives a shit if somebody doesn;t like names that start with a K? I feel like saying sometimes that if all you want is someone to pat you on the back and say "there there, it'll be ok" then you need to find a different forum.

This place is where I come for a bit of plain speaking; genuine opinion and a refreshing frankness that you dont always get in RL.

The amount of posters on here who, it seems, are actually looking to be offended, well, it offends me Grin

LunarRose · 04/07/2012 20:35

Have you seen the number of posts and threads?!?!?! that's a hell of a lot of reading!!!! Moderating it is going to take a lot of time, dealing with more complex issues even more so.

Personally I have always had posts I have reported responded to quickly enough sometime insatantly sometimes the next day. Some have gone poof some haven't [shrugs]

I have also reported a post and had my own post as few lines up deleted (quite rightly I might had).

The thing about things biting you in the bottom in real life: this is a public forum. The information that you post once you hit send is in the public domain. At that point it is google searchable and has a life of it's own. What you post will build up a picture of you, the more you post the more recognisable you will be. There was a lot of sense privacy wise to the poster who said she changes names on a weekly basis. I would never post anything on her in my own name or link it to my facebook. I appreciate being anominous here, I have no doubt sometimes it could cause real life trouble if rl people knew, but I can post here on things that I wouldn't be able to talk about in rl.

Every forum has it's own character and style of moderating. I love Mumsnet light handed approach, if it's not for you pick a new one or even better start your own, then you might realise just how difficult the process of moderating vs censorship is.

amillionyears · 04/07/2012 20:35

UnicornRainbowLove, maybe you dont work for MNHQ,and maryz, maybe you dont either, but how can I be sure.
I was spot on about OatyBeatie.

Pagwatch · 04/07/2012 20:36

Oh it's difficult.

I reported today because a poster was being an absolute shit - smart arse and goading, really horrible.
But when I read all of her posts they individually stayed this side of delete-worthy.
It must be difficult to find a line.

It is terrible that people get upset.

( And it is a bit terrible that I found the Ghandhi moment very funny. It was like Alan Partridge)

Hullygully · 04/07/2012 20:36

That was an unfortunate X post.

Pinot · 04/07/2012 20:36

OatyBeatie works for HQ? Confused says who?

Tee2072 · 04/07/2012 20:37

amillion, why the fuck does it matter!?!?!

usualsuspect · 04/07/2012 20:38

And i can also say how fucking ridiculous it is to dislike the letter K, its called debate,

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 04/07/2012 20:38

Hath that all sounds utterly shit, and I am really sorry you are going through it all.

I don't know who you were hounded by, but that kind of behaviour isn't the norm on here - people don't chase each other across the boards slagging each other off. No-one on this thread is disagreeing with you, no-one is ganging up on you.

hathorisaskingaquestion · 04/07/2012 20:38

Well, if there's a lot of threads, then MN need to find a way of dealing with reports that doesn't leave people like me feeling that it's pointless, imo

OatyBeatie doesn't work for MNHQ either. Again, I think she'd rather scratch her eyes out.

UnicornRainbowLove · 04/07/2012 20:38

Who are you talking to though hath?

I'm sorry you have/had a lot on your plate, but without wanting to sound horrible, how do you know what anyone has on their plate?

If you feel attacked report it to HQ, hide the thread and post somewhere less combative. AIBU is a pit of shit - if you need support go to the support boards.
