It looks very nice.

For anyone on (apparently dinosaur) 1024 x 768 screen resolution, if you un-maximise your browser, then move it so it's hanging off the left side of the screen, then click on the edge of the window to stretch it, THEN you can just see about one pixel of the x to close it with.

And for the record, I'm 22 and also hate it so you're not being grumpy and old Grin

nickelbaalamb · 20/04/2011 12:18

The slide down bar comes back if you go to a different thread - that's very annoying..... Hmm

RustyBear · 20/04/2011 12:19

It's OK Damian, I can live without it on ipad! Something is getting through the Apple barrier though, it occasionally appears and waves forlornly at me from the other side.....

BehindLockNumberNine · 20/04/2011 12:21

NOOOOO, slide down bar is back. It appeared whilst I was on a Boden thread. Punishment for talking Boden I suppose.

Right, really am going now, dd has already got the bikes out of the garage...

SecretNutellaFix · 20/04/2011 12:21

If you hit "end" and drop straight to the bottom of the page where the message box is situated the bastard reappears.

I am starting to lose my rag a bit. I've only been on MN about 10 minutes this session.

southofthethames · 20/04/2011 12:21

Wondered what everyone was talking about - oh, the new layout. Yes, made me do a double take too. Prefer the old one....

usualsuspect · 20/04/2011 12:25

Got rid of it for now ..phew

PlentyOfPrimroses · 20/04/2011 12:33

Don't like it. Please provide settings for turning off the swively shit ASAP.

thumbbunny · 20/04/2011 12:40

Nutty - have you closed and restarted your browser and then closed it the first time it appears? Because I'm on Classic as well and it did work for me, got rid of the bastarding thing. :)

RamekinSkywalker · 20/04/2011 12:41

stimulation overload. too much!
i'm going to have to have a nap. Grin

thumbbunny · 20/04/2011 12:44

Oo good, rollover sensitivity seems to have diminished as well - doing sterling work there, DamianTech, thank you!
The display still stays there when activated though - it's not a big issue, just letting you know. :)

nannynick · 20/04/2011 12:46

When on a Talk page, could the search auto populate the Talk Advanced Search with some set parameters, thus producing a results page?

When not on a talk page, could the search auto populate the Google Custom Search?

Currently it does neither - guess that's being fixed.

Twitter - could the tweet button auto shorten the URL?

thumbbunny · 20/04/2011 12:54

What I would really like for the Advanced Search facility is a functional back button - so that when you have put in your search parameters, got a list of results, clicked on one and discovered it's not the one you wanted, the back button will take you back to your list of results, not tell you the page has expired and make you do it all again, please.

DamianTech · 20/04/2011 12:54

@thumbbunny: We found in testing that having the purple bar disappear while using the nav bar made the whole thing harder to use, so now it "sticks" to make reaching links a bit easier.

@nannynick: Search is being worked upon. Twitter themselves will automatically shorten the link using their t.co URL shortener. Is this not working for you?

thumbbunny · 20/04/2011 13:02

ok, thanks for explanation, Damian.

GandTwithLime · 20/04/2011 13:05

On my screen the annoying bar that now appears at the top doesn't have a cross anywhere to close it.

At the far right the search button and then the edge of the screen, at the far left the MN logo and then the edge of the screen - am I missing something??

nannynick · 20/04/2011 13:06

@DamianTech - Does not seem to when composing the message (displays the full url) but looking at the tweet it produces it has shortened the URL using t.co So guess it's working as it Twitter has designed it.

@thumbbunny - I use Google Chrome and it will usually happily take me from the results page back to the advanced search page with the fields already completed. Exception to that is if using Choose Topics.

Collision · 20/04/2011 13:06

Just STOP FIDDLING WITH MUMSNET AND LEAVE US BE!!!!!

IT IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BLOODY ANNOYING!

If you keep doing this then I will do-a-Pie (yes, been here that long!) and set up my own Mumsnet!! and people will leave here and you will be out of jobs!!!

nannynick · 20/04/2011 13:07

@GandTwithLime - The grey cross is an image - try loading just that image into your browser click here then with luck the browser will cache the image and display it when the bar next displays.

gillybean2 · 20/04/2011 13:14

I thought I had escaped the 'dangly' thing with my classic, but it seems not (having just opened a new wondow). Grr

And I've just had to scroll across the purple bar for something and it is annoying as hell when you accidently stray up and catch the bar above which clears off the thing you were trying to scroll too! It's not like if you click on talk (for example) the options in the purple bar get replaced on the main bar for the 'talk' section, so you still have to scroll across the purple bar... tedious as heck
I was only trying to get too the talk guidelines fgs!

GandTwithLime · 20/04/2011 13:25

Nannynick Thanks, I clicked on your link and could see the little grey circle with the cross in it but still can't see it on the silly bar thing. I closed Chrome and reopened it too but still can't see it Sad

MNHQ Can we get rid of it please? Or at least make it so that we can close it if we want to (and we DO want to!) ?

GilbonzoTheSecretPsychoDuck · 20/04/2011 13:47

I am liking the options bit thing which when you hover over talk it gives you the main topics. But yes, drop down thingy bar is doing my nut in.

usualsuspect · 20/04/2011 13:51

GandTwithLime try zooming out on your screen to find the x ..thats what I did

notcitrus · 20/04/2011 14:01

Thanks Usualsuspect - had to zoom out 4 times to find it - was a tiny dot!

And why on earth would people want the Logout button right in the middle of it - surely most of us are reading from home on our own accounts so never need to log out?

The rest of the site looks exactly the same to me - I must be unobservant or something.

GandTwithLime · 20/04/2011 14:30

Usual You're a genius!!!
