It looks very nice.

Hello,
Sorry meant to say it was coming before we pressed the button but was in the loo Blush.
We will make the drop down search bar when you scroll down an option that you can turn off over the next day or so.
(do give it a little while though - you never know it could grow on you and you might find it useful!)

Hi everyone,

We've implemeneted a short-term fix for the slide-down bar, clicking close on it will now keep the bar hidden until your next session (i.e. next visit to Mumsnet, or when you re-open your browser). You may need to restart your browser for this to work.

@BehindLockNumerNine: This was literally only just changed, so your browser may not have updated properly. Closing and re-opening it can sometimes help, otherwise you'll have to wait until your machine catches up I'm afraid.

Also, a small point of clarification: All the navigation links on the top (blue bar) can be clicked to reach their relevant pages, so clicking Talk will take you to the topics page, etc.. There's currently no pages for Bump to Teens or Life & Style, but there will be soon, promise. Grin

The slide-down bar won't work on iPad, this is by Apple's design, as having something "fixed" to the browser window doesn't make sense when you can pinch+zoom in/out.

The search box issue is something we're going to look into, in the mean time you can put your search terms in the Google Custom Search box on the page it takes you to. Apologies for the issues with this.

DamianTech · 20/04/2011 12:54

@thumbbunny: We found in testing that having the purple bar disappear while using the nav bar made the whole thing harder to use, so now it "sticks" to make reaching links a bit easier.

@nannynick: Search is being worked upon. Twitter themselves will automatically shorten the link using their t.co URL shortener. Is this not working for you?

Hello! Damian is working away at fix so that you can permanently opt out of the drop down in Customise... hard to say whether the death threats are speeding him up or slowing him down Smile. (Be nice he's only a young lad).

(ps if anyone should be shot it should by rights be DarrenMumsnet)

DamianTech · 21/04/2011 15:17

Hi all,

You can now hide the "dangly" bar by going into Customise (it's right at the bottom). Apologies for the wait and I hope the death threats weren't sincere! I don't get paid enough to be shot at! Grin

We've also fixed it so that you should be able to reach the X button on the bar even at 1024 screen width (this was originally an oversight).

You'll also now find Threads I'm On in the nav bar under Talk. :)

They should appear in the right order now. These bunnies are rather unruly! [busmile]
