Cup of tea anyone?

RebeccaMumsnet · 09/02/2011 11:21

Last week we offered you the Wine emoticon but after cries for further beverages in the form of a nice cuppa tea, we are putting it to the vote. Please note that although we are using the word 'tea' the emoticon can be used as any hot beverage of your choosing (attempt to fend off enraged coffee/ Horlicks/ hot chocolate or Bovril drinks).

Please vote here . Voting closes at midnight on 10 Feb

I never understood the bear either.
I agree that emoticons should be clear and understandable to all.
[Italian chocolate]

SoupDragon · 09/02/2011 16:08

[cadbury's]

MmeLindt · 09/02/2011 16:08

[SwissChocolate]

We could have [antipasti] or [cappuccino] for the Italian MNetters.

And [Painauchocolat] and [macaroons] for the French

Francagoestohollywood · 09/02/2011 16:11

[Amedei chocolate emoticon] [snob]

LIZS · 09/02/2011 16:13

should we not have a bat ?

Francagoestohollywood · 09/02/2011 16:14

[macaroons] is actually a great emoticon imo, I will start to use it randomly.

PaperView · 09/02/2011 16:15

"It's easier and more expressive to use an emoticon in many situations and it saves time too."
Am emoticon is a representation of a facial expression.

The bear/wine glass/cup/biscuit are not and are therefore not emoticons.

SoupDragon · 09/02/2011 16:17

I do find it raher depressing that a silly little face is thought of as more expressive than words.

[downhearted]

Francagoestohollywood · 09/02/2011 16:18

But it is a dear little face, look how friendly it is Smile [romantic]

MmeLindt · 09/02/2011 16:22

Perhaps we shall grow to like it [hopeful]

SummerRain · 09/02/2011 16:24

But surely when you have a face to face conversation you use facial expressions to convey meaning to you speech.

'Thanks' or 'sorry' for example can mean very different things depending on the facial expression of the person saying them.

I use emoticons to symbolise the non verbal aspect of my communication. So if I'd smile whilst saying something I Smile when I type it

Maryz
That is very sad. It must be so hard for your son to understand nuances of conversation.

WHAT?! Mug why mug? A cup is just fine I think, less is more.

Sorry to hear about your ds maryz.
I am Normans self appointed agent if anybody wants to borrow Normans services they'd better talk to me first.

NormanTheForeman · 09/02/2011 16:42

I think your son would get on very well with me maryz - I only have one facial expression (fixed smile), as do all Playmobil people. No confusion there.

Jux · 09/02/2011 17:08

NO NO NO

if it's going to be chocolate it's GOT to be [Bendicks]

All other chocolate is as a smudge on the face of Audrey Hepburn....

MmeLindt · 09/02/2011 17:19

To be honest

ChaosTrulyReigns · 09/02/2011 17:35

[franglais]

LadyPumpington · 09/02/2011 17:42

What? Are you on the Wine again chaos?

Francagoestohollywood · 09/02/2011 18:32

Shock at Godiva, it has to be at least Pierre Marcolini if it has to be Belgian! [Gobino emoticon)

OmicronPersei8 · 09/02/2011 18:32

I like the idea of having a novelty emoticon of the month. This is getting ridiculous, I remember when MN took a hard line on new emoticons, and then all of a sudden all theseridiculous new ones appear.

Grin
LemonDifficult · 09/02/2011 18:44

Bear - like it, reminder why MN is fun
Biscuit - less keen when punctuates thread at third, fourth, and fifth post but y'just know that thread is heading up to 680 posts or whatever, but basically I like the biscuit
Wine - I am never, ever one to pass up a glass of wine, even over broadband
Cuppa - I think I'm against this. I know some people don't drink wine but, hey, I'm on a diet and I can cope with the biscuit. What next: a celery stick emoticon?

Smileys - Hmmm, best not to let these get out of hand, eh? Maybe none of that bouncing, star-spunking or heart-ejection? We're not the Disney Delegation of the Minature Poodle Hug Club.
