A mixed bag here. Delighted with an 8 in Maths so he can do Maths and Further Maths at A level as planned. He got a 5 in Computer Science which he's disappointed about but it gets him into the A level and that's the important bit.

KefaloniaKid · 24/08/2023 10:46

@Museya15 please encourage your daughter not to give up on a legal career if that's what she's passionate about. I'm a solicitor and qualified through the standard route, but my old firm (large multinational) financially supported many legal executives to qualify. Take a look at the CILEX route. It does take quite a few years to quality as a solicitor but you can do it.

Spendonsend · 24/08/2023 10:47

Got what was needed for college and am very relieved for him.

DoodleMum12 · 24/08/2023 10:49

Dd is over the moon here!! Her biggest surprise was getting all 6’s in triple science which she didn’t think she’d pass! A 7 in math that she was worried about too. Also got 9 in both English and literature (which she’s shocked about) history and geography- those are the subjects she’s continuing with at 6th form. Distinction in music too. She was crying and is in utter shock - especially after all the media talk about harsher marking. One proud mum
here 😊

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 24/08/2023 08:46

My DD got all 9's - above predictions and a complete shock. She is in tears.

Wow well done

FourTeaFallOut · 24/08/2023 10:49

Okay, he's done enough to do what he wants to do at college, including FM and an 8 in physics. He's had the shine knocked off some of it with poorer grades than predicted in other subjects. But it's all on course.

DS got what needed and an unexpected 8 in chemistry which he hated and found hard!

A quick question though. On his English results his literature shows the grade and raw score but English language only shows the grade (8) and it has a D near ish to to the raw score column (but no raw score). Does anyone know why?

DS has extra sheets of paper which show the actual marks he received by exam board.

TeenDivided · 24/08/2023 10:51

@whojamaflip
As far as I'm aware a Level 1 pass is GCSE grades1-3. To be a GCSE pass equivalent it would need to be a Level 2.

GlitteringFeeling · 24/08/2023 10:53

@LadyShimura - that’s good she can go on to her next stage though.

It’s ok to feel disappointed and to want DC to have a different experience to us. But it’s her path she’s on, and the next stage may be totally different for her.

Perhaps once the feelings subside a bit after today, there will be space to think about how to support her for her next course - encouraging her to seek support, helping her think about what she needs to do to achieve her best.

You sound like a lovely supportive Mum, and that’s a huge advantage for her to have you in her corner.

GlitteringFeeling · 24/08/2023 10:55

@LadyShimura - sorry only just saw your post about maybe not being able to do A levels.

Is there anyone she can talk to at school about other options?

TeenDivided · 24/08/2023 10:56

We've decided dogs don't care if you have GCSEs in Maths & English (or anything else either).

That's what I was worrying about as it means he's missed his college offer.

Need to start looking at alternatives I think. Really need to speak to the college but don't want to piss them off today of all days when they are flat out with results day 😩😞

The college won't be so much flat out with results day, as flat out dealing with admissions issues. You have an admissions query, ask them.

MerylSqueak · 24/08/2023 11:00

A mixed bag here but we live to fight another day.

She's in a big mood about getting an unexpected A in a subject she doesn't like 🙄

LadyShimura · 24/08/2023 11:01

@GlitteringFeeling

I've emailed the head of sixth form to find out what her choices are now.

TripleDaisySummer · 24/08/2023 11:02

It's what they are there for today - and ones who got grades are sometimes like DN and DS are heading in tomorrow to finish registration so college may not be dealing with anything but application queries today depends how they've set themselves up.

Tittyfilarious81 · 24/08/2023 11:07

DS got what he needed to do the course he wants to do at college, he needed 5 grade 5 and above and he got 6 so he's very happy and so are we as he'd be doing the same course if he got all 9 s .

Benaberry · 24/08/2023 11:07

Just got back in from collecting DS1’s, and we’re all stunned, including him - one 6, and the rest 7-9 including some real surprises in subjects he hated and really battled with; we genuinely were not expecting that. Now making some final decisions on A level choices.

A huge well done to everyone with results so far

Mumof3girlsandaboy · 24/08/2023 11:09

DD is happy here got 9, 8s & a 6

joan12 · 24/08/2023 11:12

Just wanted to thank everyone for such a supportive thread, from week one of exams. All good here, so relieved.

Asparagus1 · 24/08/2023 11:12

Two 7s, one 6, five 5s and a L2Merit in graphic design which apparently is a 5.5 in numerical equivalent. That was a shocker as she was expecting Distinction. Lots of tears as four 6s needed for her sixth form of choice, the online admissions portal won’t work and we are very stressed, I’m hoping they will allow her in. Off to another college now to see her options there if not.

Windowcleaning · 24/08/2023 11:14

School opened at 10am. Still no word from DD. Think my 'give us a ring when you're ready' might have been too casual. Hope it's that and not that she's devastated. Though she's call if that was the case, I think?

Don't know. I had been really calm, now feeling sick. Just bloody call already!

SheilaFentiman · 24/08/2023 11:15

Yay, we are v pleased with DS1’s results!

BaconAndAvocado · 24/08/2023 11:15

One 9 (in English Lit! Big surprise), 4 7s, 2 6s, 2 5s and a 3 in Spanish which was expected!!
Over the moon and he’s got into his chosen 6th form.

Well done everyone 😀

I can finally relaaaaaaaaaaax.

Saisong · 24/08/2023 11:19

DD pretty much performed as expected, mostly 6, couple of 5s, one 3 (expected). Very disappointed in a 4 for history though, but that was tempered with a stellar 7-6 in combined science - wish she'd done them separately because physics was hard, but pretty sure she aced chemistry.
Anyway she is off to college to study none of her gcse subjects, so we just put all this behind us and move onwards and upwards 😀
