Prom last night here too for DS. They all looked fabulous.

Rowgtfc72 · 08/07/2023 10:57

Dds prom was brilliant apparently. Seen lots of photos and a video of her head of year break dancing.
She had a nice chat with the head of music who said there had been an issue with the practicals but he had spent a few evenings sorting it.
She also had a nice chat with useless music teacher who she declared a nice bloke when he didn't have to teach but a crap teacher.

BonjourCrisette · 08/07/2023 23:14

Hello everyone! DD stressing a bit about results and we are trying our best to forget about it all. She is having a good summer, though, and enjoying seeing friends etc.

jamimmi · 09/07/2023 16:44

I've told mine , who is known for stressing she can worry the night before only ! Seems to have worked OK so far. Our lovely dentist also helped by chatting to her about the chemistry exam which she feels went badly ie "only a 7" ( I know that's not bad!) Told her not to let it put her off the A level which helped too.

Letskeepgoing · 09/07/2023 18:10

Hello everyone, I have missed you all!!
My ds prom went well, I found it emotional seeing them all grown up!
We've had an email about collecting the results.

Letskeepgoing · 09/07/2023 18:18

The school have said there will be teachers in the school on hand to congratulations children and representatives from the 2 nearest colleges for advice etc. My son wants to bring it home to open though. It's a big thing opening it infront of everyone if things aren't what you were hoping.

Letskeepgoing · 09/07/2023 18:21

Yes it seems its very hard to get a job at Mc D. My sons friend did some extra courses, food hygiene etc before interview but he got rejected. They advertise alot.

Frenchyq25 · 09/07/2023 18:51

DS had prom.last week, we encouraged him to go as he wasn't keen but he ended up having a great time so was glad he went.
He has been really helpful this week and cooked dinner every evening (I started a new job on Monday not working from home), it's all good practice for him as he wants to be a chef
He's got a taster day at college on Thursday and is going to have to make his way there on his own (bus then train).

BonjourCrisette · 09/07/2023 18:57

@jamimmi Seems like we are on the same page! I told mine she was allowed two nights of worrying and any other time she is to tell herself sternly not to start thinking about it and do something else!

PS A 7 is great. It is hard to get this through to them sometimes. DD stressing about maybe getting a 7 in Biology (which she doesn't even want to do for A Level so frankly who the hell cares).

Toffeesgirl · 09/07/2023 21:24

DS's school doesn't have a prom, I'm assuming cos it's all boys!

He seems remarkably relaxed about results day - school haven't sent any information re timings etc yet.

A lot of parties though so he's keeping busy 😂

Thanks a shame. Both DD and DS go to the single sex schools in our town. They have a joint prom every year so its a huge thing.

PennywisePoundFoolish · 10/07/2023 11:55

Hello
Thanks for new thread

DS2 didn't go to his prom. Though even before anxiety and depression took hold he wouldn't have gone as he is very noise sensitive.

I've emailed his school to try and find out how he can receive his results as he won't cope with going up there when it's busy etc. DS1s results showed on their online thing but DS2s school use a different one (Go4School) so I'm not sure if it will be updated there.

I emailed the Senco but she's usually pretty obstructive and unhelpful(!). I might email his maths teacher who is also SLT and is supportive of DS2.

My son's school use go4school too and hisctesults will apparently show on the system at 8am results day.

Thank you, hopefully DS2s school doesn't block them somewhere they said would happen with hid mock results, but wasn't actually true

jamimmi · 11/07/2023 23:22

@BonjourCrisette definitely ! sorry missed your previous post as packing for a holiday. I'm hopeing it distracts her. Hope yours manages to distract themselves too. They put far to much pressure on themselves. Her brother was much easier and happy with his 5's

BonjourCrisette · 12/07/2023 09:31

Have a lovely holiday!

jamimmi · 12/07/2023 23:20

Thank you, enjoy your summer and we can meet on her on Results day.

TeddybearBaby · 17/07/2023 11:01

Morning, how are you doing?! We still haven’t been told how we’re getting results on the 24th 😳. I feel like we totally moved on from GCSE’s on the last day of exams but for some reason I’ve started thinking about results day and what’s going to happen. Think it would be easier to manage if I knew what format the day was going to take.

Can I ask how you plan to manage the day / how you did it in the past if you have older kids…… will you accompany your child into the school? Also what happens afterwards, do the kids do their own thing, do you need to enrol at the school / college they’ve hopefully got in to or is that an automatic thing if you already applied.

Sorry for all the questions. You can tell I’m having an anxious moment 😅

ChristmasLightsLover · 17/07/2023 11:49

Marking my spot and catching up. So pleased to find you all!

DS1 has done a lifeguarding course. He now needs to get the job to go with it.

We've bought an iPad for sixth form, with keyboard and pen. He insists he doesn't want to use it. He wants to stick to pen and paper. We have explained that the iPad is needed for the pre read and materials in classes but he doesn't like it.

Anyone else in this boat re pen and papers vs tech?

I think all schools do it differently but we had an email last week saying child (or nominated person) goes in, collects results and then if planning to stay at sixth form, enrols there and then. If they don't enrol, they can enrol late but spaces might be gone as it opens to allcomers in the afternoon.
As far as I know some parents go in, but my DS is not going to be that child with all the 9s, so I think he would prefer to go with friends and then if he has done enough to get into sixth form, he'll enrol with his friends.
I'll be hovering at home biting my nails.
Contact your school before they break up for summer, they really should be letting you all know.

Rowgtfc72 · 18/07/2023 10:48

Dd is nipping into school today to retrieve my owed prom money so will get her to ask for info on gcse day.
On the actual day she will be going in with her friends. If we get the grades she needs we need to take a copy of them to her apprenticeship provider.
I'm then sticking her alone on a train to London to spend four days with my brother. He's paid for Reading Festival tickets for the Friday for her birthday.

Changes17 · 18/07/2023 11:27

Will probably drive DS to school (since it's two buses otherwise) and wait outside in the car to find out how he's done (and for the lift home) - probably chanting the mantra: all that matters is that he's got the grades he needs for 6th form.

mumonthehill · 18/07/2023 11:31

Joining in!!! Ds working during the week and busy with sport but is slightly grumpy!! He went to a school sixth form open breakfast and really enjoyed it so now just got to wait until results. Will take ds in to get his results as have to register with new school that morning to see if they will take him. His older brother is coming for a surprise visit that day too which will be nice.

3sthemagicnumber · 18/07/2023 14:25

Hello!
Amazing to think it's a month since they finished.
School open in the morning here for kids to go and get their results. DD planning to go with her friends - she said we could go if we wanted but have said it's up to her. Results can only be as expected or a disappointment as she got top grades in all the mocks - she/we recognise that she is very lucky to be in that situation though.
Letter says staff will be on hand to congratulate/advise, but hardly anyone seems to be staying at school IV form so the advice bit might be a bit redundant.

Rowgtfc72 · 19/07/2023 17:10

Just been to look round the car dealership dd will be having her mechanics apprenticeship with. Very impressed. 1 to 1 mentorship, online zoom training on Fridays and every six weeks 3 days at college a couple of hundred miles away. They'll take her, put her up in single accommodation and bus her to the college before bringing her home.
They've also said if her English grade isn't a three they might be able to work round it.
We are a much happier and dd is now very excited.
