DD got the string of top grades she was predicted and hoping for. She's bright, but she's also worked very hard and I'm really proud of her. Haven't seen her yet - imagine they'll be at school a while chatting.

Congratulations to all those who got whatever they wanted/needed, and hoping those who didn't find a way through that works.

I can't remember who asked about remarks - I know our school suggest you do it (and pay!) if you're one mark off a boundary (happened to my nephew last year and he was moved comfortably up from a 7 to and 8). I don't know if that's school policy or general policy.

If you're further off, you can request it and pay yourself - our school will support and organise the process for you. (I think you get the money back if the grade changes, but might be misremembering.)

TripleDaisySummer · 24/08/2023 09:39

DS got the results - they did e-mail in the end.

A* in Sciences and numeracy - English which I was worried about came in at an A which is a huge surprise they were predicting B but teaching issues were worried DS and us it could be C/D boundary.

Everything else was above a C - History dropped to a B but he's happy and he got a distinction Additional Mat Level 2 - so his maths heavy A-levels do look like he'll be playing to his strengths.

@Hellocatshome well done to your ds on his apprenticeship!
He's been on my thoughts as the only other kid on here going for an apprenticeship. He sounds like he has a bright future ahead of himself.
( dd got hers too)

dessicatedblackbird · 24/08/2023 09:40

Passed all with 6-7s which is great but below predicted. Thankfully enough to get onto the a level course (in Wales!)

Thank you and well done to your DD I was hoping to hear she got what she needed.

Well done @travelogue fantastic news! My dd has also had some challenges so I’m nervous about her results. She needs 46 points from the 8 best GCSEs for school sixth form.

TY & Fingers crossed for you🤞

Just want them all to get on to the next step 🤞

Can anyone point to an idiots guide to edexel grade boundaries please

Is it worth asking for a remark on Biology? DD was one mark off an 8.

The result will already have been scrutinized as it is so close. However, I would ask the school if they think it's worth it. Sometimes, if a subject has unexpectedly lower results across the board or across particular grades and the school has a subject re-marked, all marks can be moved if there has been a marking error. Be interesting to know what the breakdown of her grade was - individual paper scores.
What are her plans after A level? Some universities do look at GCSE results when looking at applications.

Remember, results of a re-mark can go down as well as up. Unlikely to go down enough to drop a grade given where she is sitting.

My dd is in to sixth form, she got what she needed and secured the 5 in Maths, couple of shock grades in there if I'm honest but for her, the goal was sixth form, and she did it Flowers

Well done to your DD! That's amazing

DameEtna · 24/08/2023 09:46

Phew Dc messaged me at last!

Strange set of results, mostly got his predicted grades or 1 grade lower - except a 4 in computer science when he was predicted a 7 and got a 6 in his mock? Not sure what happened there! He said the exam was dead hard.

He also went from 4/4 in his English mock to 6/6! His tutor (who we panic engaged at the last minute) will be getting a bottle of something for that!

But he got what he needed for 6th form so happy days 🥳

Iheartbobross · 24/08/2023 09:47

@AnxiousElephant77 sounds like we're in the same kind of place! Ds has scraped what's needed thank god! Now he just has to make up his mind what he wants to do. Omg the relief.

BBC news website has a link to them all I think.

@TeenDivided

We looked but nothing on then for the year 10’s. Just the year 11s 🤔

DS last year were e-mail to his school e-mail account as was Nov GCSE - but image it will vary with each school.

TeenDivided · 24/08/2023 09:55

Remember remarks aren't remarks any more, they are reviews of marking.
If the senior examiner thinks the original marking was reasonable within the mark scheme then they don't change.

Redcase · 24/08/2023 09:55

My DC got what they needed for sixth form and is happy. They missed out on a 8 in French by 1 mark and a 6 in PE by 1 mark. They aren’t doing either for A Level. I’m wondering if it’s worth asking for a re- marking?

Merchantadventurer · 24/08/2023 09:58

DS got what needed and an unexpected 8 in chemistry which he hated and found hard!

A quick question though. On his English results his literature shows the grade and raw score but English language only shows the grade (8) and it has a D near ish to to the raw score column (but no raw score). Does anyone know why?

BonjourCrisette · 24/08/2023 09:58

DD really happy with her results. She is especially delighted with an 8 in the dreaded Biology. Hoping everyone gets good news today too.

LadyShimura · 24/08/2023 09:58

Well my DD get a 4-3 in combined science but got lower than 2 in everything else. Got a P endorsement grade in English Lang.

I really thought she'd do well, especially with an incentive.

Now I just feel like a shit mum.

Just looking it up for English - think she's solidly in the 6 grade boundary so will accept that.

History - you need the paper code to see boundaries for each paper which I don't have so would have to speak to school. I'm assuming they will call me if she's only one or two marks off.

mumsneedwine · 24/08/2023 09:59

@Merchantadventurer the D is a distinction in the speaking part of the exam

Aaah! Thank you! That makes sense. Not sure why they aren’t showing a raw score but just going to celebrate now when DS gets home.

Well done to all the DC. They have had a challenging few years and should be proud of what they achieved. I am not sure how well I would have coped at their age!

Almahart · 24/08/2023 10:03

DS's school printed his grades onto a letter, and there aren't any marks. Is that different to what usually happens?

julesover40 · 24/08/2023 10:04

Dd passed with more than enough for her 6th form place, so very pleased here.
Well done to all, what an anxious wait.
Hope all the teens are happy and good luck in their next steps x

That's disappointing but many kids find there way post GCSE years - does she have a plan - local college or such for any re-takes needed or maybe non exam courses that might better suit her?
