Exam season starts....

All done here too. Biology went better than expected (she was expecting a disaster). She has been to the pub for a Lime and soda, and a few friends expected shortly for Pimms and burgers. She is very tired - revising late most nights and last night (the final push) she revised until 1am. She says she feels quite flat now. I am sure the proceedings will liven up later.

muffinmonster · 17/06/2015 14:42

DD says Biology paper was hard, loads of 'suggest' questions (which I think menas interpretation rather than knowledge) and 'hardly anything from the actual syllabus'. Doesn't sound great, and Biology is her best subject.

Oh well, only one paper to go - Physics tomorrow morning.

Antaresisastar · 17/06/2015 15:46

Dd has finished today too, hurrah! Rehearsals tonight but out on the town tomorrow. Poor ds has one more to go on Friday then schooldays are over in this house.

hellsbells99 · 17/06/2015 16:02

Hopefully physics will go better Muffin.
DD was getting Us on past papers last night for biology and she said the exam went better than that!

Littleham · 17/06/2015 16:11

Which exam boards were your dc taking for Biology?

OP posts:
MrsBartlet · 17/06/2015 16:15

Dd had had a horrible time in her RS exam today. They had to study an anthology of several philosophers and then you get given an extract from one and have to discuss. The one that she knew the least well (from having missed lessons) was of course the one that came up. However, the whole thing was made worse by the fact that they were in initially given the wrong paper. It seems the school entered them for Ethics rather than Philosophy of Religion. As soon as they were told to start the girls told the invigilators, who had to stop them and ask them all about it. Dd had to leave the exam hall to get her exam timetable to show them which paper they were supposed to be doing. All the while she said she was worrying about whether they would not be able to sit the paper or have to try and do the wrong paper. She said she was shaking and felt sick as she needs to get a minimum of an A to make her firm. Fortunately there was a student from last year re-sitting and she had been entered for the exam dd was supposed to be doing so they had some spares and they were eventually able to proceed but dd was quite shaken up and said she couldn't think straight. Not the best start for someone with anxiety issues!

sassy I feel your pain and especially after today's fiasco where Cambridge could be more in doubt. We are going to apply for dd's York accommodation in the next couple of days and I will work on bringing her round to how great York is!

On the upside - just General Studies to go tomorrow and the she is done!

MiffyMyKitty · 17/06/2015 16:33

Mrs B what a nightmare! I hope school is going to inform the exam board of their mess up. Think they should use predicted grade as well, to consider your DD final A2 grade for this subject as clearly this isn't fair that her grades are based on the exam she took today. Has anyone complained?

bigbluebus · 17/06/2015 16:43

That sounds horrible MrsB.
Physics and General Studies here tomorrow then one last push for Maths mechanics paper on Mon including trip to 'study' at Alton Towers on Fri followed by revision session all day at College on Sat.

MrsBartlet · 17/06/2015 16:46

Dd went to the exams office after the exam but the exams officer had gone home. She is going to go and see her tomorrow but I am also going to email. Dd already has a letter from the doctor being submitted to say that she has missed school due to on-going anxiety issues so hopefully, they will also submit something about the mess they made of this. Dd would be ecstatic if they used her predicted grade (A*) but I can't see that happening!

Sorry to hear about the RS shenanigans MrsB. Hope exam board give her some leeway.

Going to need that new thread very soon, we can talk us lot, can't we?!! Grin

GypsyFloss · 17/06/2015 17:01

That's awful MrsBartlett . Well done on your daughter for keeping it together though. I'd definitely want to complain to the exam board about that! Can you contact the uni about it?

DD says she had a great second politics paper and she hopes that it will mitigate the not so fab first one. I'm pleased for her, it's a nice way to end.

Mindgone · 17/06/2015 17:01

MrsB that sounds horrendous! Sad
Littleham, OCR biology here.

MrsBartlet · 17/06/2015 17:21

Yes mumslife same exam as your dd - the anthology paper. I think there are lots of different options and dd's school do "Philosophy of Religion". It is the same as for the investigations paper last year. Glad your dd found it ok.

Glad your dd ended on a positive note GypsyFloss!

Decorhate · 17/06/2015 17:31

Sorry to hear about that fiasco MrsB. Sad
I'm surprised the exams officer wasn't alerted by an invigilator straight away - and slightly Shock that they sent your dd out of the exam hall to get the timetable. Sounds like a shambles.

Last paper for my dd today (biology). I don't think she quite knows what to do with herself now. Her best friends are not finished yet

hellsbells99 · 17/06/2015 17:44

Your poor daughter MrsB Sad
Littleham - AQA biology here.

hellsbells99 · 17/06/2015 17:49

I believe the AQA biology was a replacement paper as biology was amongst the papers that were stolen/lost

Littleham · 17/06/2015 17:54

Oh right. DD's Biology was WJEC and it seems she is not alone in not liking it.

MrsB That sounds like a horrendous experience for your dd.

Still got one to go on Friday.

Commiserations and congratulations as appropriate. For those who are still have children labouring away, there's not long to go...

hellsbells99 · 17/06/2015 18:44

Littleham - hopefully it will be very low grade boundaries.
When DD text me the other day to say chemistry had gone ok after an awful 1st paper - my first thought was 'oh no, high grade boundaries then' ......we can't win!
Good luck for those with exams still to go.
