Exam season starts....

circular, fingers crossed for your DD and my DS Smile

I've come to terms with the fact he more than likely won't make his grades; just got to see what he does come out with and start from there.

circular · 16/06/2015 09:45

Muffinmonster I think there are a few mid-level Unis that regularly hold open days that w/e. Keele springs to mind for some reason.

Also finishing on a thursday, but DD won't technically be 'free' till the end of term. Music performances between exam end and then in danger of running into double figures lol. Friends that have booked early festivals and the like seem to have coveniently forgotten!

Littleham · 16/06/2015 10:01

Hi Miffy. Smile Fairenuff...must be a great feeling. Good luck with the job change NiceCardigan.

Fingers crossed for those Maths, Psychology and Classics exams.

Worst day for dd tomorrow - Biology BY5. BY4 went really well, so it all rests on tomorrow.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcomeSmile
caroo DD is doing the 2nd final paper this morning something to do with research methods in psychology. She just texted with a thumbs up emoticon and nothing else Confused I guess it went well then. Hope it goes alright for your dd.
atiao DD did s2 last week, C4 is this afternoon and has a few FM modules next week. Only FM maths to go and she's done yipee! philosophy exam was last week. Nice to hear you did maths and philosophy too. DD gets a few raised eyebrows when she mentions what she wants to do at uni, impression that its a odd combo.
We just glad so far its gone well for dd. She was diagnosed with lupus ( auto imumme disease) when she was 13 so its been hellish going through her young teenage life, in and out of children hospital whilst doctors try and and find right drugs for her, the side effects from them was horrendous, luckily she has been stable for 2 years now, leads a realitively normal life. We was always worried her lupus would flare back up in the A level years because of stress and pressure. We just glad so far it hasn't and hurrying up the exam to be over. Good luck everyone with exams this afternoon, fingers crossed.

mumslife I'm sorry for making you feel sad ( big hug and kisses from this way). Like you we feel very blessed and proud dd got this far and often spoil her too much and being over protective but we can't help it. It will be hard to let her go to university without making a huge fuss about looking after herself and remembering to take her meds and no alcohol. That's the next hurdle hopefully it might not be. So far things are great, the only lasting effect she has had is that the steroids they put her on at 13 for a year has stunted her growth so she's a bit small and dainty. We keep reminding ourselves that 'yesterday is history, tommorow is a mystery, but today is a gift and that's why it's called the present ' keeps me sane Smile

Mindgone · 16/06/2015 13:22

Miffy and Mumslife, wow, what a lot you, your DDs and your whole families have been through! And what strength and resilience your DDs have, you must be so proud of them Smile.
DS about to start C4, good luck to all, hoping and praying for a smiling face later! He is a bit too busy thinking about after the exams now for my liking! Just needs to focus for another 22 hours!
My midwife friend likened it to encouraging a mother giving birth! Just one more push! Keep going! You can do it!! Grin

Littleham · 16/06/2015 13:51

I'd much rather give birth. Grin

AtiaoftheJulii · 16/06/2015 15:02

Lol, well, if this whole thing is labour, then dd1's two important papers today must have been the final birth of the baby - S2 on Monday is just the placenta Grin

Haven't heard from her all day because of the isolation - am so nervous for her arrival home!

MiffyMyKitty · 16/06/2015 15:16

My DD is home she has a mixed face she isn't smiling and it isn't sad either?? More bewildered and exhausted from C4 was a mean paper she has lost 8 marks for some differential equation which she didnt know what the equation was given the context on population. So because she couldn't do first bit couldn't answer sub question either. The rest she thinks she got right so hopefully not done too many silly mistakes and hope for low grade boundary too. I rather give birth any day, DD was only a 5lb 4oz wasn't like passing a melon Blush

MrsBartlet · 16/06/2015 15:55

Hi Miffy and welcome to the thread! Very glad your dd has managed to keep calm throughout her A levels and cope with the pressure. The last thing you need is worry about illness on top of A levels.

mumslife - dd has had another meltdown re the RS paper again today. She has missed a lot of school this year and it has been very noticeable in her revision. Some topics she is covering for the first time rather than revising them. She will be ok tomorrow if she gets the philosopher she wants and she will struggle if she doesn't. Wishing your dd luck for tomorrow - we're nearly there!

muffinmonster · 16/06/2015 16:32

All this talk of labour is making me feel broody!

DD said C$ was OK, though she knows she made a mistake in a question about population. More straightforward than C3, anyway.

AtiaoftheJulii · 16/06/2015 16:56

Dd1 didn't finish the population question either. But seems to think today was reasonably ok.

Horsemad · 16/06/2015 17:31

DS seemed to think C4 went well, he's had a big discussion with DH about it and they are both happy with what he did.

Keep plodding on, just one more week for DS. Smile

NiceCardigan · 16/06/2015 18:11

DS thought C4 was hard but doable. All done here and DS looks tired. We're going shopping for a prom suit tomorrow and I think our ideas of what is suitable are quite far apart!

circular · 16/06/2015 19:16

DD thought C4 about as bad as C3, but expected worse, so reasonably happy. Looks to tired for any more revision tonight, but has all day tomorrow.

Another DD here who is lucky to be where she is. Very prem, under a kilo, neatly didn't make it, soent first few months of her life in hospital. Puts worrying about grades in perspective sometimes.

AtiaoftheJulii · 16/06/2015 19:17

Oh, dd has been mentioning lots of C4 mistakes now, kicking herself. She will be annoyed with herself if today costs her the A*. But it's hard to be very sympathetic when I know how little work she's done for it!

MiffyMyKitty · 16/06/2015 20:07

atiao same this end, DD has done a post mortem on C4 via TSR and has now discovered a few silly mistakes totalling 12 marks, she was hoping too on getting a A it depends on grade boundaries, if its same as last year shes safe, if its any higher will depend on what she got for C3. She doesnt need for her offer, I think she would like one anyway for pride and dedication. Good luck everyone with exams tomorrow Smile

hellsbells99 · 16/06/2015 20:35

Just home from a work trip so nice to catch up with DD after 2 days away. She said C4 was hard but mainly doable. I think tonight will be a late one as Biol5 tomorrow morning and she still has a lot of work to do.

Littleham · 16/06/2015 20:36

DS has been testing dd about human and plant reproduction. I owe him £10 but it was worth it. Escaped from a detailed analysis of the broad bean.

Not looking forward to tomorrow but you are right about other things putting this into perspective. That must have been a real worry circular. Mine were at the opposite end of the spectrum - 10lb. And I would still rather give birth.

Cooroo · 16/06/2015 21:39

DD has finished! Says Psychology was "ridiculously easy" which worries me - maybe she missed the point! Today to relax and celebrate, then she must find a summer job! Are others encouraging DC to find work?
