Exam season starts....

Fairenuff · 16/06/2015 22:19

Dd has a job but will definitely be hoping for more hours over the summer. Luckily it's busier in the summer anyway.

Cooroo · 16/06/2015 22:25

Should add she had a Saturday job but that finished at half term. She's keen to find something though. Needs to save to uni (cross fingers).

Mindgone · 16/06/2015 22:43

C4 was hard, with one seemingly impossible question Hmm! I dis encouraged the tsr postmortem, as he needs to focus on biology now for the morning. Am feeling quite stressed about it now! DH doesnt think he's done enough work, but I really do, and DH is a natural pessimist! He needs 3As and has no real back up plan.

hellsbells99 · 16/06/2015 22:44

Hopefully DD has a week or two of full time work plus she will continue with some tutoring. She also needs to get a bit more relevant work experience. I have a stack of ironing, some decorating, the house could do with a spring clean and she could also do a bit of work for my company .....I will keep her busy! She also has a holiday with friends, a holiday with us and a band tour planned. I think the time will go very quickly.

hellsbells99 · 16/06/2015 22:51

DD would be quite happy with a C I think in tomorrow's paper - but thinking even that is looking dodgy at the moment. She is hoping with a C tomorrow she will have done enough to get a good B. I don't think we will know how close to she to getting her grades until results day. Her firm choice indicated that they would probably accept 1 dropped grade.
Her friend's offer for her own firm choice was originally AAA but they contacted her and said if she firmed them, they would accept ABB.

seimum · 16/06/2015 22:57

DS also found C4 OK, which is a relief, as he needs an A* in maths. He knows he dropped a few points, hopefully not too many.
Only Physics on Thursday to go!

Mindgone · 16/06/2015 22:58

That's reassuring Hellsbells Smile

Mindgone · 16/06/2015 23:00

I'm so glad we don't have the pressure of needing an A*, best of luck to your DS seimum.

hellsbells99 · 16/06/2015 23:13

I'm glad that no A* is needed here either! Next year with DD2 will be a different matter.
Good luck all with the rest of the exams.

GypsyFloss · 17/06/2015 05:41

Last day for DD, American politics . I've been recited at for hours and wound her up no end by interrupting with " in the west wing"...

I dreamt last night that DD's primary head teacher came to me and said they were very proud of her as they'd had notification that she got an unconditional offer from her firm. Wishful dreaming!

Best of luck to all those wth exams today and well done for surviving to those who will be celebrating Freedom Day Smile

AtiaoftheJulii · 17/06/2015 06:14

Dd does not have a job, but hopefully will be looking! Dh was talking about getting her some work at his place, but apparently there's very little spare money for that sort of thing atm.

Good luck and yay for those who finish today!

Decorhate · 17/06/2015 06:16

Last day for my dd too. She has Biology this morning so will be done by lunchtime! I asked her what her plans were for afterwards - "sleep"!!

MrsBartlet · 17/06/2015 06:20

We are encouraging dd to look for a job. She is busy until the end of July but then has the whole of August and September to work. Unless she passes her driving test though, she is somewhat limited in where she can look for work. We live in a village about 7 miles away from a town and the bus service is completely unreliable. There are a few options in the village so we will have to hope something comes up there.

Decorhate · 17/06/2015 06:30

Mrs B, my dd will also be job hunting once exams are over. Although we live in a big town, it doesn't seem that easy to find a summer job for teenagers. The fact that she has a couple of trips planned over the summer won't help Hmm

circular · 17/06/2015 06:42

Alrhough DD just about got organised enough to arrange time off from p/t job for revision / performances, not yet got round to asking for extra shifts for after exams. Actually, not got round to arranging very much at all for the 'holidays'.
Also needs to sort out whether she will keep job for when she returns in holidays. Seems preferable to transferring to Uni town. Doubt whether she would manage to work fixed days in term time.

Good luck for those with exams today.
Just physics tomorrow to go here.

Horsemad · 17/06/2015 07:44

Physics revision day at home today for DS1.
DS2 has finished GCSEs so we are off shopping for new clothes for him!

DS1 doesn't have a job but will be looking. He isn't available until August but hopefully will get something.

MarianneSolong · 17/06/2015 08:38

Daughter departed to last 2 A-Level papers. (Timetable clash so one after the other.) Massive nosebleed at breakfast.

Littleham · 17/06/2015 08:54

Sounds stressful Marianne. Nosebleeds are such a pain.

DD woken up at 5am by a spider sitting on her face. Shock Biology this morning & she is just about to go in.

MarianneSolong · 17/06/2015 09:00

Probably a (good) omen Littleham....

MiffyMyKitty · 17/06/2015 10:55

No job here, dd says she intends to find a little job at uni. Feels a bit sad when I think, it's only going to be 11 weeks time when dd flys the nest, as Bristol term time is somewhere in the 1st week of Sept, she won't be comming home on weekends as it's nearly 4 hrs train journey. It's empty nest for us. We going to spend as much valuable time we got left, to do family things together, we are off on a 3 week adventure to the far east mid july should be fun. It's near to the end of exams I guess for everyone, I hope all our DC can finish on a good note for final exam with a smiley face.

sassymuffin · 17/06/2015 11:30

DD has her last exam today and then the big wait for results starts.

MrsBartlet my DD had exactly the same meltdown last night. She has firmed Cambridge too with A*AA but she decided to insure Warwick instead of York AAA. She announced that she doesn't want to go to Warwick if she misses her firm offer and would rather try again next year.

Deep breaths... August 13th seems a long time to wait

MarianneSolong · 17/06/2015 11:37

Rather fittingly, I've just opened the letter telling me the date when Child Benefit payments will stop.

Cooroo · 17/06/2015 12:04

I was wondering about Child Benefit. That's going to be a noticeable gap in my income!

Spiders and nose bleeds! Shock

Littleham · 17/06/2015 12:14

It wasn't a lucky spider unfortunately. She wasn't too keen on BY5. All depends on grade boundaries. Sad Oh well....

OP posts:
Mindgone · 17/06/2015 13:35

All done here, biology seemed ok.
Freedom Day! Grin
Am feeling quite sad too as DS2 is my baby! Worried about what the empty nest will feel like!
