Tell me this is not real please. Scotland's first period dignity officer is a man. A MAN.

I just can't put into words how furious this makes me. Females are having the pis absolutely ripped out of them in Scotland.

What the fuck would a male understand about the indignity of realising you'd leaked through onto your clothes.

About the cold fear when your period is late.

About trying to unwrap a tampon quietly. Etc etc.

I suppose the only saving grace is at least they are not claiming to be a woman.

Yes I saw it on Twitter

GetOffTheRoof · 15/08/2022 21:44

For fucksake.

So, how do we start the kickback against this? Just because someone has been appointed, doesn't mean they should actually continue in post.

Twitter is probably the place to begin.....

KittenKong · 15/08/2022 21:45

Men actually have no shame do they?

PrimAndProperPearlClutcher · 15/08/2022 21:45

Just saw this.

Breathtaking. Breath fucking taking.

Goosygandy · 15/08/2022 21:46

Absolutely fucking ridiculous. They just want to offend us really.

PrimAndProperPearlClutcher · 15/08/2022 21:50

'“I was chosen as the best person for the job and for me, it’s irrespective of gender.

“Having a guy can’t be a bad thing – it grabs the headlines, but that’s not the reason I was put into post!” Jason continues.

“For me it’s about driving the discussion from a young age so boys and girls are included and there’s no hiding it away because that keeps it as a taboo topic.

“I want to be seen as a positive male role model.”'

So long as Jason's happy, eh?

Direwolfwrangler · 15/08/2022 21:51

Absolutely fucking insane. I honestly feel like we’re living in an episode of Black Mirror at times.

GingerFigs · 15/08/2022 21:51

I can't believe he applied for the role. I have no words

Rainbowshit · 15/08/2022 21:51

KittenKong · 15/08/2022 21:45

None. Just none. What kind of man thinks this is their lane?. Decent men just wouldn't.

Jason why not 'girls and boys'? Just this once, maybe centre women and girls?

The type of people that make these decisions will "take no lessons"

The only thing that seems to have any effect in Scotland is legal action.

Public opinion just doesn't hold any sway.

That's obviously what girls and women need when talking about periods: a positive male role model. And let's not exclude boys from the discussion, we can't leave the poor lambs out of anything.

Rainbowshit · 15/08/2022 21:59

Did they maybe mean lack of dignity for women and girls by appointing this man.? Because thats what it feels like.

We're not allowed dignity anymore in Scotland.

Aw FFS.

Is there a way to read the article without subscribing? I can only see the headline

Kangaruby · 15/08/2022 22:01

Any man who wants this post is not appropriate for this post

PissedOffUnison · 15/08/2022 22:08

What an absolute piss take but not surprising from Scotland.
In other male piss taking news, the menopause lead in one of the other Unison Branches I know of is a bloke. What on earth help will he be to any menopausal women FFS?!
I feel like we’re living in an alternate universe sometimes where women are being constantly taken the piss out of to see how long it takes us to crack.

J0y · 15/08/2022 22:12

Wow. 😪

2bazookas · 15/08/2022 22:15

In Scotland, period products are now available free to all, no charge.

Jason's job is publicising the service, and liaising with schools, colleges, councils etc about where and how the supplies of free products are distributed . (Its 5 years since Dundee initiated a postal service for free period products) .

I don't find any of the above inappropriate for a man. It's got absolutely NOTHING to do with shy leaky girls having to ask a man for a tampon.

Being Scotland, it would be weird if anyone other than a man was appointed

I couldn't agree more.

But they get applauded because 'diversity & inclusion'.

What a time to be alive.

You don't think this is the kind of cause that should be championed by a woman?

That perhaps in order to enable the conversation that this should be led by a woman - that is, someone who has direct experience of what a period is, how it can affect you, and to generally lead the way for the women that require the items?

This is absolutely, IMO, a perfect occasion for a woman to lead the way and show millions of women and girls internationally that talking about periods is OK. This is a huge opportunity to demonstrate a hugely important legal change and Scotland, once again, have blown it.

Georgeskitchen · 15/08/2022 22:29

Why is a "period dignity officer" necessary?
Women have managed menstruation for centuries and we certainly don't need the help of some bloke!!
Oh and last time I looked, boys didn't have periods
