I eat everything as long as it’s within my calorie limit and I reach my protein goals. Carbs are good! I eat more than I ever used to to achieve the goals, so I’m always full.

Use the James Smith Academy free calculator to work yours out as it’s better than the MFP calculator. Then track them with My Fitness Pal or Nutracheck. I also like the Fitness Chef on Facebook and Instagram as it’s a nice group, and proper sensible advice instead of fad diets.

summer22now · 13/06/2022 09:14

Went to Starbucks for a treat yesterday, picked up what I thought was a tuna sandwich but due to small people interaction didn't check it properly - was tun'ah - vegan tuna attempt.

It was more calorific than your basic tuna sandwich as they'd pumped up the mayo to make up for the awfulness of the fake tuna...

Best foot forward here this week! It's almost sandal weather...some of the time!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 13/06/2022 11:33

Welcome @GoldenSongbird ! I'm another calorie counter who's trying to eat sensibly and exercise plenty. I don't restrict anything, just try and stay within my calorie allowance.

Annoying on the calorie goals in MFP @WouldBeGood, but yes, you can't total track yourself. I think I reduce by 100 Sun - Thurs and then add 250 to Fri and Sun.

That's very irritating at Starbucks @summer22now I hate when the fake meat/fish options don't scream vegan! Especially when your sacrificing some precious calories on whet you hope is a treat.

DH and I were discussing calories on menus yesterday. I'm in favour (I know not everyone is), I'm finding it really eye opening.

Currently defrosting a super low cal tomato and lentil soup for lunch to help balance yesterday's indulgences and I'm off for a swimming class later. I can't really swim but I'm trying to learn...

summer22now · 13/06/2022 15:53

calorie and veg serving count should be on the menu, some clothes shops have a sustainability index, it would be great if meals had a similar index - we made supermarkets have traffic light nutritional information systems after all.

But then I'm the sort of cook who is always ruining recipes by trying to hide an extra serving of veg somewhere - unsurprisingly my kids are not huge fans of my cooking although they are very kind!

Welcome @GoldenSongbird

TeeNoG · 13/06/2022 19:54

@ thanks for the new thread @runningpink 🙂

runningpink · 13/06/2022 20:20

Welcome @GoldenSongbird

I tried to write a post the other day them mumsnet had a hissy fit and I lost it all! Didn’t have time to retry at the time and iv been so busy yesterday/today.

Anyway I’m here now

That running app sounds interesting @WouldBeGood im going to check it out

I think viewing your calorie intake/steps over the 7 days is better than being harsh on yourself for being over some days. If I run or cycle I simply need more food on those days.

I started off well last week but being unorganised later in week meant that food was chucked together for meals rather than measured out.

So I am determined to stick to it this week by being organised. Got a Gousto box yesterday so iv made up two of the meals and logged as recipes in mfp.

I should be under calories today so that’s a good start.

No exercise today apart from a Pilates class as iv been working. Will be around 12k steps by time I head to bed

Thanks for all the welcome posts!

I looked at the James Smith Academy. It's suggesting a lot of protein. Is that usual?

I did a yoga session last night for the first time in ages. I'm recovering from an accident so I'm going to try to alternate ballet and yoga sessions.

WouldBeGood · 14/06/2022 09:24

Yeah, I’m amazed by my protein goals! But I tell you what, it keeps me full 😃 I need to eat things like protein puddings from Lidl (yum) and lots of tuna, fish, chicken, eggs, bacon medallions, turkey mince and stuff to reach my goal. It works though. I think it would be tricky if you’re veggie, or vegan.

Ballet and yoga sounds great. I’m a massive heifer so ballet is not for me, I’m jealous! I do love yoga, but I hurt my knee last year and everything yoga hurts it, annoyingly, even sitting cross legged or kneeling.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 14/06/2022 15:22

👋🏻 to all - quick q for @WouldBeGood - how much protein to you aim for in a day?

WouldBeGood · 14/06/2022 15:41

140g is what my pt gave me. 😱

im big and tall Mind you

Tomorrowisanewday · 14/06/2022 18:13

I have a lot of weight to lose, but the James Smith Academy calculator gives me 2152 calories, and 201g protein!!!! My fitnesspal gives me 1526 calories, and 76g protein, and I struggle to get that much protein

WouldBeGood · 14/06/2022 18:34

That’s a lot of protein!! I don’t always make my 140, but there or thereabouts. Hence why I’m always full

I’m losing on 2138 calories!

Tomorrowisanewday · 14/06/2022 18:40

I'm mixing protein powder into yogurt twice a day, as well as meals!!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 14/06/2022 19:28

Oh that is a lot! I might see if I can work on getting mine higher. I thought I wasn't too bad but a look back suggests I'm averaging around 60g, though 70-90 on a good day.

Right, and extra couple of sausages and no burger bun for me at the weekend! 😂

Tomorrowisanewday · 14/06/2022 20:43

I'm sure the number JSA has given me is wrong!! Unless they want me to eat chicken 5 times a day

runningpink · 14/06/2022 21:06

23k steps
5k run
fitness class
5.5miles walked
1400 water (must drink more)

Food wise probably a bit over today but iv measured portion quantities so still better than normal.
And iv done plenty exercise so probably evened that out a bit.

JSA had me on 1761 calories and 114g protein. I did need to guess my weight as scales need new batteries.

That's great on the exercise @runningpink! I did a bodycombat yesterday but couldn't get into it at all.

BUT! I did try on my holiday clothes - lots of things that were a bit uncomfortable or tight last time I tried them fitted well (or were in fact a bit big) and i've got some lovely new things that I feel good in. For the first time in a long time I'm going on holiday wearing things I like rather than what fits/doesn't look too dreadful.

And this morning I'm bang on the goal weight I set myself in January, so one stone lost since then and lost the pounds I put on post covid. I'm pretty pleased. I'd still like to shift another half stone from my thighs but this is a good place to be. Couldn't have done it without this thread though so thanks all!

WouldBeGood · 15/06/2022 08:20

Oh, that’s so good @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo ! Well done!

Tomorrowisanewday · 15/06/2022 08:20

Well done WhatWouldtheDoctorDo. I weighed myself this morning, and have lost 3 pounds since last Wednesday. All that protein must be working😂

WouldBeGood · 15/06/2022 08:21

And once again amazing steps @runningpink ! And exercise. And I agree, this thread is very helpful, weirdly I feel accountable to you all 🤣

summer22now · 15/06/2022 08:45

Well done @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo !!

This thread definitely helps inspire my eating habits are gradually reforming. I'm in awe of all the exercise, I just can't seem to find the time or energy but I'm hitting 9-10k steps most days at least.

@runningpink that was an amazing exercise day!

Should go up over the Summer - here's to a sunny day today!

runningpink · 15/06/2022 08:53

That has made my morning @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo! Well done on sticking with it and having the determination.
You have given me a wee boost to keep going with it.

I was tempted to eat something extra last night but I thought of you guys and stopped myself.

Breakfast weighed out this morning. Have prepped and weighed out my lunch so it’s ready to cook.

Extra Pilates this morning then il go a run but it’s really warm already so will be a plod.
Class this evening and il get as much walking in as I can around all the jobs I need to do

So, I r been making a massive effort to up my steps inspired by @runningpink - nowhere near yours, but they are better: doing two dog walks and taking every opportunity to move.

Went to the gym today. Leg day, then fifteen minutes boxing for cardio, calories, and satisfaction 😃

I was starving by tea time and me and ds had been very busy, so got a chippy tea, but a small fish supper so probably not the worst. Boy, it was tasty!

hope everyone else has had a good day

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 16/06/2022 06:53

Thanks all! After a motivating start I was exhausted yesterday so didn't to my planned class. I think this is monthly cycle related though. I did close all my Apple Watch rings and stay in calorie count despite a corresponding attack of the munchies though.

A chippie tea would have been PERFECT though. I envy @runningpink's step count though. I got just over 10k yesterday but that was only because I had to get bus to work instead of car and it involves a bit of walking. But getting bus more often impacts time for exercise classes. Going to try and do some bodypump later, I really want to up my strength exercise. Perimenopausal health and all that!

mapleleavesreturn · 16/06/2022 08:31

ahem, too much red wine yesterday but a good food count day! You can tell I'm eternally optimistic - fantastic weather at last!!! Off to take the dog out.
