Anyone else unsure who to vote for?

Used to be a Labour supporter but they don't stand in my constituency (or when they do, they come 5th or 6th). It's between SNP, Lib Dem and Tories (in that order) here. I physically can't vote for the latter two, however I'm not enthusiastic to vote SNP, despite voting for them previously. Greens aren't standing either. I hate the idea of spoiling my ballot but I genuinely don't know what to do. Anyone else in the same situation (not necessarily stuck between the same parties)?

And I wouldn't vote for Alba, either.

Also, I apologise as I'm suffering from insomnia hence the 3am post, if it wasn't clear, I'm not asking who to vote for, I'm asking if anyone else is very undecided/despairing?

I don't really know either. They're all as bad as one another really! Would never vote Tory and won't for anyone who's pro-independence so my options are somewhat limited! are the candidate lists out yet?

dancemom · 29/03/2021 09:52

Same, I'm officially politically homeless.

Used to vote Labour and while I like Sarwar and my local candidate I can't put my name to their stance on women.

Would never vote Tory, can't stand the local Tory MSP.

SNP, I'm unsure on Independence currently but ditto their stance on women.

🤷🏻‍♀️

AngelicaSchuylerAndHerSisters · 29/03/2021 10:07

I feel the same. Really stuck about my first vote. The second vote is easier.

Helensburghmiddleagedmum · 29/03/2021 10:31

I was going to vote SNP, then with the whole Salmond thing I wasn't going to vote SNP and didn't know who to vote for. Now I think I will vote SNP after all, she is better than all the alternatives I think

WonkyCactus · 29/03/2021 10:36

I feel exactly the same, not sure who to vote for. I've voted SNP in the past but I have issues with some of their policies and I don't want another indyref. I will probably still vote for them in the constituency vote but don't know what to do with my second vote!

EachDubh · 29/03/2021 10:52

Won't vote SNP duebto their stance on who and what a woman is. Green under Patrick Harvey are awful, labour, not a chance. Alba or SIP may be all I have on the list but no main party except conservatives.

Libelula21 · 29/03/2021 13:56

There’s still time to register yourself as a candidate, just. ;-)
I’d vote for any regional independent candidate who stood for protecting women’s rights and campaigning for better education, and better data about education.
My constituency MSP is communicative and seems to do quite a good job, but I’ve no idea to whom to give my second vote.

I0NA · 29/03/2021 14:07

Yes I feel the same. I’m a long term independent supporter but can no longer vote SNP because of their stand on human rights.

ScoldsBridal · 29/03/2021 14:09

Same boat here. I can’t bring myself to vote for the SNP with their current policies and attitudes to their female voters - I just can’t. And I really can’t vote Tory because, even when certain individuals are decent humans, I can’t buy into their core ideology and how it manifests on a national level (but I have never been so tempted to vote for them in all my life just to avoid the idea of not voting at all or spoiling my ballot) I hear Tommy Sheridan has joined Alba so that’s another reason not to vote for them (along with Alex).

The Lib Dem’s and Green are totally off my list and I can’t even be bothered to articulate all their pathetic failings.

I really don’t know what I’m going to do.

StatisticallyChallenged · 29/03/2021 14:16

Politically homeless here too - feel like I'm trying to choose between turds!

WaxOnFeckOff · 29/03/2021 14:19

I had already decided that I was going to vote Tory as the best chance of getting rid of the SNP in my area and because of their stand for women. I hate the SNP and I'm not looking for independence. I'd say I'm a left of centre voter normally.

Just sick of the wokeness.

However, now that Alba are in the game, I'm now unsure about how to vote as not sure how it will effect tactics.

Instead of voting positively for what I want, I'm left with voting negatively to get rid of the worst option.

It's not a great way to be looking at it but feel boxed in really.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 29/03/2021 14:25

I'll be voting tactically to try and get rid of the SNP. I'm not a supporter of independence (and certainly not at this point in time!), but actually I'm really worried about their conduct and policies in a devolved government too. The centralised control, lack of accountability, and murky dealings that were all revealed recently actually scare me a bit, and that's without getting to the explicit policies that damage women's rights. It will probably be Tory and Labour, but which way round will depend on who has the best chance in the constituency vote.

HappyPumpkin81 · 29/03/2021 14:27

I’m with you @WaxOnFeckOff I’m naturally left leaning but just cannot stand the idea of another independence referendum. I am not impressed with my SNP MSP either, he has failed to respond to the letter I wrote him in October and his Facebook page is full of bile and hate ☹️ The conservative candidate is the only alternative in our area.

Fandangoes · 29/03/2021 15:08

I am in Fife can anyone advise how best to use my 2nd vote if I do not support SNP?
I have looked at the tactical voting calculators but they only seem to refer to the constituency votes unless I'm misunderstanding them

Lyricallie · 29/03/2021 15:23

I'm the same. I could never ever vote Tory. However I'm not very pro independence either. I'm definitely a "don't know" there even though I voted no the previous time.

I would go with Labour but feel they're a bit ineffectual. This leaves me with Lib-Dem who I have voted for I'm the past as they're pretty good on local issues where I am (Highlands and Islands).

I filled out a quiz last night and I was like 92% Lib-Dem, 90% SNP and 90% labour so that was useless lol.

Galvantula · 29/03/2021 15:25

Not a fuckin clue 🙈

Not at all pro independence. Never voted Tory. Nothing exactly looking good!

riverrunning · 29/03/2021 15:29

I'm unsure - I quite like Anas Sarwar and putting the recovery first, disappointed in their stance over what used to be known as women. The Scottish conservatives have been good here on women's rights, lockdown and scrutinising the SNP.

No real enthusiasm for any of them.

Scottish politics is clogged with the independence question, it's a real problem.

Bloodypunkrockers · 29/03/2021 15:42

I'm a natural labour voter but we're in a two horse race between SNP and tories

I'll be voting Tory

StarryEyeSurprise · 29/03/2021 15:54

Can I ask, who is the MSP who has a page full of hate?
Shimmyshimmycocobop · 29/03/2021 16:08

@ScoldsBridal I could have written your post.

LizzieMacQueen · 29/03/2021 16:08

@WaxOnFeckOff I think we might share the same area? Is it Clacks & ......

This time I'm quite happy for someone to advise on how best to use my vote between 1 and 2. Either cons then labour or labour then cons.

LizzieMacQueen · 29/03/2021 16:12

Should explain that I'm a labour voter normally and definitely for keeping the union.

Fandangoes · 29/03/2021 16:12

@LizzieMacQueen I am going round in circles trying to understand all of this. I'd be quite happy for somebody to tell me who to use my 2 votes for if I do not want to support SNP and I am not pro-independence. I am based in Fife so I think my 1st vote has to be Lib Dem but I'm not 100% sure and have no idea how to use the 2nd vote
