Anyone else unsure who to vote for?

Used to be a Labour supporter but they don't stand in my constituency (or when they do, they come 5th or 6th). It's between SNP, Lib Dem and Tories (in that order) here. I physically can't vote for the latter two, however I'm not enthusiastic to vote SNP, despite voting for them previously. Greens aren't standing either. I hate the idea of spoiling my ballot but I genuinely don't know what to do. Anyone else in the same situation (not necessarily stuck between the same parties)?

PMSL

Like I said.....

forfucksakenett · 02/05/2021 13:19

Hmm erm okay.

It's a bit worrying that you don't understand the difference between a region and a country but hey ho. You do you. 🤣

JustAnotherPoster00 · 02/05/2021 14:23

@ScotlandUnited

but the overwhelming majority of the UK voted to leave (I wasn't one of them btw but have accepted the result!)

If the majority of Shetland voted to stay in the UK and the rest of Scotland didn't, would Shetland be allowed to go aw no fair, you canny force independence on us.

Shetland is part of Scotland just like Scotland is part of the UK

You can't argue with stupid.

The irony is strong with this one Grin

@forfucksakenett

No not like the SNP because there will be a referendum. If the overwhelming majority vote to remain then we will remain

Is that not what happened in 2014?

GintyMcGinty · 02/05/2021 14:57

Im a postal voter so I've already voted.

I voted Labour on constituency and Conservative on the list. These were the best tactical unionists votes for my area.

MorrisZapp · 02/05/2021 14:57

I'm voting Labour first to keep SNP out, and Tory second to put the boot in.

The world is now mental.

Sure is l. Since then though I think it can easily be argued that material changes mean that we would be within our rights to vote again.

Graffitiqueen · 02/05/2021 15:15

I'm voting Tory to try and reduce the SNP majority to head off the biggest immediate threats to my family's safety and security. Independence, self id and the hate crime bill.

weebarra · 02/05/2021 16:50

I'm voting Alba for the list, but don't have a clue otherwise. My constituency is SNP currently and the sitting MSP is fairly good. Before that it was a labour stronghold (ex mining area). I totally feel let down by the SNP for their stance on women, but do support independence. As a pp said, I can't not vote!

SoMuchForSummerLove · 02/05/2021 17:01

I heard a guy on Radio Scotland the other day talking about how people always say that not voting is the worst thing you can do.

He disagreed, and said if you are politically engaged and active, and well informed, then if at election time you don't feel any of the candidates will represents your interests well, then you shouldn't feel bad about not voting.

Which is all well and good, but completely ignores the reality that lots of other people will be voting, and many of them will vote against what you believe in.

I'm struggling. I don't think I can not vote. I want independence but not with this current government; their Scotland isn't the one I'd want to live in as a mother of girls.

High profile Scottish actors WHO LIVE IN AMERICA, joined a FB event this evening to call for both votes SNP🤷‍♀️🤣
What fresh numptiness and desperation is this from the SNP campaign?

I’m very much looking forward to those same actors relocating back to Scotland permanently, should many folk heed their advice next Thursday. I’m sure they’d want to be back ‘home’ to pay their taxes here and to be around for what’s to come...🤣

forfucksakenett · 02/05/2021 23:11

@Bytheloch pretty sure Martin Compton confirmed earlier that he has a house here and pays taxes here also. Not sure about Alan Cumming.

Yes, I’m sure many actors have accommodation here in Scotland...
If you reside in the states for so many weeks a year, you certainly don’t pay income tax here🙄

Anyway, I’m not bothered about their tax affairs, just find it hilarious actually that they endorse from afar...any of them willing to move back and educate their children/grandchildren here, or perhaps trade their private medical insurance in to join a waitlist for an NHS appointment?🤷‍♀️ Any takers? No?

SempreSuiGeneris · 03/05/2021 07:20

Pretty jarring to orchestrate celebratory endorsements from outside the UK and Scotland the same weekend the Scottish based Arts and Entertainments sector launch campaigns and legal challenges against the SNP govt regarding the lack of support and engagement with the local industry. Warning is of cultural decimation and thousands of Scottish based job losses.

Have to say from the footage in George Square, the Alba Party is really highlighting the 6 years of grinding negativity and lack of vision from the SNP in the wake of 2014.

I take it you’re referring to the general feeling of most at the gathering, not the lost souls dancing-if that’s the right word- to the Proclaimers? Or, speaking of actors again, the folk dressed like Mel Gibson’s Braveheart.
My toes are yet to uncurl.

SoMuchForSummerLove · 03/05/2021 09:12

NS is depressing the shit out of me. She can keep saying she's a feminist but...

Interesting poll results/fact check

forfucksakenett · 03/05/2021 11:55

A fact check from a clearly biased organisation? Is that a thing now?

RedactedTaeFeck · 03/05/2021 12:20

Ah okay, I'll await the detailed rebuttal from an unbiased source as to how scotgov or Westminster are deliberately giving out the wrong official statistics just to fuck with the SNP. Or whatever other conspiracy theory abounds....

Or do you mean that survation are corrupt as well?

forfucksakenett · 03/05/2021 12:25

Just saying. Its a clearly biased source. I wouldn't necessarily be trusting a fact check from the SNP either. And if I posted such a 'fact check' people would point that out.

MerryInthechelseahotel · 03/05/2021 13:25

I just don't get voting Tory because of women. I am a feminist and hate the woke brigade but Tories have no respect for women whatsoever. Think of nurses who are statistically more likely to be women. The Tories have more or less said fuck you to them. They don't care about women. They care about men and status and money. They are the most misogynistic of any party

SoMuchForSummerLove · 03/05/2021 14:42

Amen. It's hard to vote SNP/Greens etc just now because of the whole trans issue, but it's far from the only women's issue. Yet another way in which I'm completely fucking confused.

I've emailed my local SNP MSP candidate to try to work out if he knows what a women is.

Iwouldratherbesailing · 03/05/2021 15:52

Those facts from these islands are facts though. You can’t dispute them. Celebrities might be able to afford to tough it out in an independent Scotland as they have enough cash but anyone who relies upon a pension, the nhs, a salary from a public sector job, exports to England are totally screwed. That such a high proportion of independence supporters don’t realise this is crazy.

WouldBeGood · 03/05/2021 16:06

@RedactedTaeFeck that survey certainly tallies with what I’ve seen from independence supporters.

Roonerspismed · 03/05/2021 16:08

I can’t stand labour due to their wokeness but loathe the SNP more (and don’t get my started on their attitude to women).

So it’s labour for me, through gritted teeth, as my seat is marginal.

Don’t understand the second vote but think will vote wacky.
