Anyone else unsure who to vote for?

Used to be a Labour supporter but they don't stand in my constituency (or when they do, they come 5th or 6th). It's between SNP, Lib Dem and Tories (in that order) here. I physically can't vote for the latter two, however I'm not enthusiastic to vote SNP, despite voting for them previously. Greens aren't standing either. I hate the idea of spoiling my ballot but I genuinely don't know what to do. Anyone else in the same situation (not necessarily stuck between the same parties)?

Alba Party scores 5/5 on women's issues says For Women Scotland.

Beepbeeprichie · 29/04/2021 21:35

I’m voting Labour.

14 years of everything turning to shit and another 5 ahead with freebies for people who can already well afford them while the poor get poorer and the attainment gap widens, all the while moaning constantly about levers while refusing to actually articulate things as basic as what currency we will use or who will be the lender of last resort when we get “freedom”? No thanks.

Chasingamy · 30/04/2021 09:42

Think I will vote Labour - liking Anas Sarwar’s plans and campaign

RedactedTaeFeck · 30/04/2021 10:18

I just wish that Labour and tory had done a deal for only one to put up a candidate on some constituency seats where their vote it fairly evenly split. But then, I'm unsure how much that then affects their chances on the regional seats.

I'd like to vote Labour as I think they are at least trying to head in the right direction but their wokeness puts me off. Tories consistently come 2nd in my area to the SNP though so that's where my vote will go. Anything to get rid of this useless corrupt and inept shower.

Jacopo · 30/04/2021 11:58

I’m pro-Independence and pro-Women’s Rights and I am having to decide which of those matters more to me. At list level I’m voting Alba.
Constituency level probably spoiling my vote unless one of the main parties says something sensible about women’s rights in the next six days. Which seems unlikely. I was infuriated with Nicola’s speech recently where she stated her pronouns at the start and went on to say they’d do more consultations with trans people etc and threw in “and women”in a throwaway afterthought kind of manner.
Just a few months ago I had such a good opinion of her.
So, women’s rights matter more to me than independence.

Calyx72 · 30/04/2021 12:05

I want independence and then after that, Scottish politics is just every party working for Scotland. SNP had lost my membership and my vote due to their woman definition issues and HCB as well as having lost the will for independence. Also what they did to Salmond.

I have joined Alba and because of them, will hold my nose and vote SNP on constituency, and Alba on the list.

annabelindajane · 30/04/2021 12:28

Just hope the independence supporters vote Alba - anything to stop SNP majority .

Tom Hunter advocating no referendums on basis that we need “ bold ambitions industrial policies “ but doesn’t state what they might be.

However above policies “ couldn’t be offered in short term if Scotland loses access to funding from Westminster “.

On another note 9 hospital centres the SNP promised in 2016 and should have opened this year have not .

I feel exactly the same. For Stirling voting Tory candidate and Labour for the list, works as a method (read: anti SNP vote) and enables a nod for Labour. Anas has continued to impress, I think, he’s energised and responsive when questioned on micro-level issues, bats away the inde question effectively etc. He’s bringing an energy to the campaign which SNP are now clearly worried about. In contrast to the Labour approach, there’s no energy left or innovative strategies from the SNP, they’re on the defensive (14yrs worth) or default to inde fantasy chat, devoid of any financial answers (unless it’s to blame Westminster for their current limited borrowing powers) it’s a very tiresome campaign. There was certainly an arrogance to their approach earlier this year- it was a done deal returning a majority, with the expectation that folk will also be voting with gratitude for NS over the covid crisis management. From what I’ve seen and heard, it really won’t be the easy win they assumed. Let’s hope that’s the case next week.
RedactedTaeFeck · 30/04/2021 13:08

I couldn't agree more @bytheloch and i'm also in Stirling ward.

I had intended to go Tory x 2 but i think your plan sounds better.

RedactedTaeFeck · 30/04/2021 13:38

So, postie just been, and for the avoidance of doubt, the three ones that look like letters are also election communications...

Anyone else unsure who to vote for?
ClerkMaxwell · 30/04/2021 13:51

Anyone know where you can see latest polling for your area? I want to check that I am not wasting my list vote.

RedactedTaeFeck · 30/04/2021 14:13

I'm not sure you ever get the poll drilled that far down @ClerkMaxwell, remember that each poll has only spoken to c1000 people so if you broke it down, you might be seeing the views of about a dozen folk.

You could look at the voting results from 2016 for your area and then factor in how the national polling has changed for 2021?

Here are details from 2016

Here is the current and historic polling:

@StatisticallyChallenged

Politically homeless here too - feel like I'm trying to choose between turds!
Pretty much this. It’s a fucking shitshow.
RedactedTaeFeck · 30/04/2021 14:46

Agree, it's sometimes easier to think about which one to flush and then pick the shite most likely to be able to pull the handle.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 30/04/2021 16:13

I see this is going the usual way these threads go - boo hoo i cant vote because of wokeness boo hoo i normally vote for a progressive party but I cant now because of all these gender critical (there is a more accurate word) right wing talking points Hmm

Oh yes, imagine a world where other people have opinions different from you... Hmm

So what? People vote for different things and have different views and priorities, I'm not sure why you think that that is not okay?

Ah well, if you’ve seen this box set already, maybe watch something else? 🤷‍♀️ #nospoilers
Jacopo · 30/04/2021 17:40

I prefer to debate these issues with people who sound old enough to actually vote.

Graffitiqueen · 01/05/2021 10:26

Was discussing this irl with some people yesterday. All wanted to vote to avoid a second referendum. Some of whom had voted SNP last time as the local candidate does a good job. 🙄

DreamDancing · 01/05/2021 12:32

I listened to Any Questions on Radio 4 last night.
It’s repeated at 1300 today.
Hosted by Chris Mason with Jackie Baillie, Christine Jardine, Murdo Fraser, Ivan McKee and Lorna Slater on the panel.

Quality of debate significantly better on some topics than I’ve heard on other programmes.
Independence, GRA, education and environment covered.

Worth a listen, although I was chopping veg at the time so was able to take out any frustrations on carrots and potatoes.

Bytheloch · 02/05/2021 08:28

Thanks @DreamDancing

ScotlandUnited · 02/05/2021 08:55

@StarryEyeSurprise

Oh , I forgot that the SNP paid out the equal pay (GCC) that Labour had spent £45m fighting. I personally know five women who benefited from it.
I know several women who benefited too, and some of the senior trade unionists involved, as I'm active in one of the unions.

Susan Aitken, GCC leader, and SNP, is very much hated.

You might want to get your facts right on the GCC equal pay dispute. Certainly not an SNP victory!

I'll be voting tactically to get the SNP out.

forfucksakenett · 02/05/2021 10:24

Just because a woman is hated doesn't mean that righting a financial wrong isn't an SNP victory though does it?

What facts does @StarryEyeSurprise have wrong here?

SolitaryBee · 02/05/2021 10:40

I have voted SNP for the last 11 years before that I was LibDem. This year I would vote for any party that recognises women have genuine reasons to worry about about GRA reform, which means I will be voting Conservative for the constituency seat. I have liked what I have seen of Anas Sawar but the Labour party attitude to women is too toxic for my vote. I'm thinking of voting for Andy Wightman on the list.

forfucksakenett · 02/05/2021 10:47

@SolitaryBee does it not concern you though that the conservatives haven't actually said anything about GRA or the whole TWAW situation ? Unless I've missed an addition to it. I'm not sure that omission of their stance on a topic is direct support of women. That being said I looked the day the manifesto came out and haven't considered it since so things might be different now.
