Anyone else unsure who to vote for?

Used to be a Labour supporter but they don't stand in my constituency (or when they do, they come 5th or 6th). It's between SNP, Lib Dem and Tories (in that order) here. I physically can't vote for the latter two, however I'm not enthusiastic to vote SNP, despite voting for them previously. Greens aren't standing either. I hate the idea of spoiling my ballot but I genuinely don't know what to do. Anyone else in the same situation (not necessarily stuck between the same parties)?

I'm Stirling @LizzieMacQueen, so same list (Mid Scotland and Fife) but different constituency.

I'm waiting for the first polls featuring Alba to come out and some of the clever folk on here to analyse before deciding :)

There is a thread for the election also that has some info on it already but will be beefed up hopefully as more stuff comes out.

Anything but SNP.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 29/03/2021 16:18

Also confused.
Post Brexit ref I was leaning towards supporting independence, but I can't stomach the SNP's treatment of women. Also can't bring myself to vote Alba.
Often voted LibDem in the past but am no longer sure about them either.
Only the Tories (and Alba?) seem to know what a woman is. What a mess.

rookiemere · 29/03/2021 16:38

I'm voting tactically to block SNP. In my area that is Conservative. Do I support all of their policies- absolutely not - if I voted with my conscience it would probably be Lib Dem, but Tories aren't going to get an overall majority anyway so I'm keen to block SNP from getting one.

alpenguin · 29/03/2021 16:42

Look at the policies and pick based on that (and how truthful the parties are in general when implementing manifesto policies.

I’m Struggling this year on a political level as I don’t really agree with many of them and on some large issues none of them but I do want Indy so shall grit my teeth and vote snp for that.

I don’t think it’s fair to judge snp based on Alex salmond who has ulterior motives for bad pressing them

Christinayangtwistedsister · 29/03/2021 16:46

I honestly have no clue, they are all pretty shit

Honestly, that's the tip of the iceberg or in some cases the last straw.

They have failed everything they've touched, they are control freaks and corrupt to the core.

Clearly we are seeing very a different Scottish National Party. I’m not their biggest fan but I don’t recognise the party you describe.

Fandangoes · 29/03/2021 17:23

Alex Salmond has very little bearing on my view of SNP. SNP have been in power for 14 years and as far as I can see have made a mess of everything they have touched. Education, NHS, Police to name but a few. Many of the issues they blame Westminster for have already been devolved so the blame lies at their own door. NS is a disgrace to women and has let us all down on so many levels. She is so focussed on independence it is all she is consumed with to the detriment of the country. She has used the covid pandemic to preach to the country on a daily basis trying to brain wash us all.

swiggless · 29/03/2021 17:24

@Lyricallie I'm highlands too but maybe not near you as Labour isn't even a choice. Lib Dem's come second here and are okay with local issues but I don't feel able to vote for them. Gah Sad

Fandangoes · 29/03/2021 17:33

@swigless - can I ask why you don't feel able to vote for LibDem? I am the same, they are actually pretty good locally but I don't know enough about them as a whole

swiggless · 29/03/2021 17:39

@Fandangoes you may or may not agree with my reason but since you asked, I personally can't forgive them for selling their souls to the tories. Maybe it's an exaggeration, maybe it isn't applicable to Scotland because it was in Westminster but I just don't trust them.

OP posts:
Fandangoes · 29/03/2021 18:18

ah when they did the coalition? Thanks for explaining. I'm trying harder than ever to make some effort into finding out more about each party to at least try and have a bot more of an informed vote. Politics has always frustrated me because a) ALL politicians tell lies and say whatever it takes to get themselves voted in and then don't deliver, b) they all have some good policies and some bad. I am a very methodical , logical person and I would prefer a bit more black & white to make voting easier!!!

readsalotgirl63 · 29/03/2021 18:29

I'd also describe myself as left leaning and was more pro independence than not but am really sickened by the GRA and HCB and by how divisive the whole scenario is.

My dh is English but we moved back here because I wanted to and in the last year or so I have truly come to regret that - I feel Scotland ahs become so inward looking and parochial .
I'll be voting tory.

Ah yea we do have a labour candidate but tbh I've never heard of her, it's the SNP and the Lib-Dem people who I have heard of. However I've only received Tories and SNP leaflets through the door. I would quite like to receive the labour one so I can see what their propaganda is focusing on lol.

Mistressofmany · 29/03/2021 19:38

I don't think there are any parties that aren't looking to impact on women's rights, are there? I've been pleased with some things the greens have said recently (Covid) but they are out for me because of stance on women. Ditto SNP, Lib Dem - I could vote Tory tactically but dh would divorce me Grin
There are individuals within all the parties who seem fairly decent but it's the policies that concern me.

swiggless · 29/03/2021 19:46

@Lyricallie I've had SNP, Lib Dem and Tories (although nowhere on the leaflet does it actually say Tory Hmm).

AngelicaSchuylerAndHerSisters · 29/03/2021 21:12

@Mistressofmany that is exactly how I feel.

Selkiesarereal · 29/03/2021 21:37

I’m really struggling. I thought I could go with Labour as I’m typically left of centre and was feeling quite positive about Anas Sarwar but it looks like our candidate is a woke Corbynite and that goes against my feminist principles.

I think that this is the first time that I just don’t have a clue. Maybe we will get a good independent candidate.

ParkheadParadise · 29/03/2021 21:43

I've voted Labour and SNP in the past. This time I'm unsure who to vote for.

Carrottop73 · 29/03/2021 21:45

There is no one I want to positively support so I will be voting against a pro independence majority.

I just need to figure out who to vote for to best do that Confused

Libelula21 · 29/03/2021 22:10

It’s probably a hotheaded knee jerk reaction, but, while I was wavering, I think the breathtaking double standards evident in the difference between how the AS/NS enquiry was handled, and the muted confirmation this week of Boris Johnson’s 4 year sexual relationship with a young American on the take (and with alt-right connections) has swung me back to SNP.

Honestly: we had weeks of BBC reporters announcing, in breathlessly sepulchral tones: “this is explosive stuff” while reporting on a barely intelligible 5-D strategy game of Outlook calendars and HR processes.... but BJ gets to cheat, gaslight and lie all the time, and there’s barely a ripple.

The SNP might be incompetent, but they are not riding on a ticket of (such brazen) corruption, demagoguery and sub-fascist policies. Can you imagine if the WhatsApp messages between Hancock and that publican had emerged from a member of the Scottish government?

Perhaps Scotland has become insular in the past few years (Brexit’s not going to do much to help that, is it?) but as far as I can see, England has checked out of the UK.

I’m sad to be pushed towards an Indy stance for such negative grounds, but the sinister machinations at Westminster are Trumping more local deliberations.

🙁

forfucksakenett · 30/03/2021 07:03

@Libelula21 it really is quite something. Has the BBC eve reported it yet 🤷🏻‍♀️ wasn't even on their home page when I checked yesterday.

forfucksakenett · 30/03/2021 07:05

Stunned at the amount of people voting Tory because of the HCB.

The Tories the party of women? Don't make me laugh.

Horrifying. If ever there was a cutting your nose off moment it's that.

My thoughts exactly. The Tories have caused so much needless misery to families, especially women and children. I can't see any sane socialist voting for them.
