Anyone else unsure who to vote for?

Used to be a Labour supporter but they don't stand in my constituency (or when they do, they come 5th or 6th). It's between SNP, Lib Dem and Tories (in that order) here. I physically can't vote for the latter two, however I'm not enthusiastic to vote SNP, despite voting for them previously. Greens aren't standing either. I hate the idea of spoiling my ballot but I genuinely don't know what to do. Anyone else in the same situation (not necessarily stuck between the same parties)?

FFSnet. I would say the conservatives have not won my vote, all the other parties have lost it by actively working to eliminate women's sex based rights. This is a reluctant vote but I will not disenfranchise myself and spoil my ballot. Women in the last century fought too hard for my right to have a voice.

ScotlandUnited · 02/05/2021 11:15

It was a legal outcome, not an SNP outcome!

JustAnotherPoster00 · 02/05/2021 11:29

The Tories who are so focused on women's rights that they are willing to push millions of women and children into poverty and destitution, with MP' Jacob Rees Mogg who would like to restrict access to hard won abortions rights, willing to drag a country out of an union that the country overwhelmingly votes to Remain in, willing to deny the democratic right of a sovereign country, as Britain slides into fascism with an ever more populist right wing government but yeah tories are gona Torie and idiots are gona idiot

SoMuchForSummerLove · 02/05/2021 11:32

I feel like, for the first time ever, I may not vote. I can vote for women or Indy but not both. I'm so so sad that this is where we are.

RedactedTaeFeck · 02/05/2021 11:32

You maybe want to consider the potential effects of years of austerity following any successful independence vote and who that would impact on most.

forfucksakenett · 02/05/2021 11:55

A vote for the Tories is absolutely not a vote for women.

RedactedTaeFeck · 02/05/2021 11:58

So which party do you think is the party best placed for women?

forfucksakenett · 02/05/2021 11:58

@ScotlandUnited

It was a legal outcome, not an SNP outcome!
It was finally settled as a result of the SNP intervention. I don't think anyone is denying that are they?
RedactedTaeFeck · 02/05/2021 11:58

In Scotland I should add.

forfucksakenett · 02/05/2021 12:04

Depends on what one wants for women. If I want the material day to day reality for women to be better then the SNP.

I appreciate that women who have an issue with trans women might struggle to find a political home but given that, unless something has changed, the Tories haven't officially made their position clear regarding this, and trans women are, for example in female prisons in Tory led England and so on, I wouldn't be putting my eggs in that basket.

Will I vote to make the lives of women worse because Tories are skirting round the sidelines of gender ideology? Nope.

The only party to actually come out and say they will protect the adult human female definition of women is Alba I believe. I don't think I could vote for them tbh.

RedactedTaeFeck · 02/05/2021 12:12

How is the material day to day reality for women going to be better under the SNP though?

I'm looking for the day to day reality of everyone to be better but even taking aside that a fair amount of people are ideologically for or against independence regardless of which would be financially better, people will vote on a range of other factors including women's rights, financial position etc etc.

RedactedTaeFeck · 02/05/2021 12:15

Yes, I saw that @SoMuchForSummerLove.

I won't be voting for Alba as (amongst other things) I'm not for independence at this time. Tories get the next highest and also are the closest in terms of vote share in my area for the constituency seat, Tory or Labour will get my regional vote.

SoMuchForSummerLove · 02/05/2021 12:19

I don't want to vote Alba either. Supporting women by voting for a man with a giant entitled ego who has admitted to inappropriate and creepy behaviours with subordinates isn't exactly the Scotland I'm hoping for.

I can't believe it's the best option for the two issues I care most about, and yet there it is.

forfucksakenett · 02/05/2021 12:26

Obviously. I've outlined my position on it. There will of course be other positions and that's a democracy.

Have you actually looked at the manifestos? What is it that you think the Tories are going to do for women?

The SNP manifesto for women in this upcoming election is very good and built on successes achieved by the SNP so far such as

  • generous childcare subsidies
  • excellent business support for women setting up small businesses
  • early start initiatives such as the baby box, and early literacy interventions for babies, toddlers and beyond.
  • mitigating the bedroom tax which has been shown to disproportionately affect middle aged and older women.
  • ensuring that GCC finally grew a set and dealt with the equal pay issue

There's probably more if I google.

Of course some will argue that these aren't successes. That these things don't help women. And that Douglas Ross whose ultimate political ambition is to persecute a minority group is exactly what Scottish Women need.

Tories get the next highest only because they omit to mention it at all.
SoMuchForSummerLove · 02/05/2021 12:37

Yeah they don't even enter my thinking tbh 🤷🏻‍♀️

RedactedTaeFeck · 02/05/2021 12:40

I don't think the tories are necessarily going to do anything specifically, mainly because the SNP will get in and continue on the path they are on which I don't see as any kind of success for anyone including women.

I think they have made clear that their priority is trans rights rather than women's.

I'd rather have a party in power that was more libertarian. The vast majority of people in the country don't need the control that SNP exert over their day to day lives.

But yes, it's a democracy and people can vote for who they like and for any or no reason and every other person just has to get on with that. Not everyone gets to reap what they sow when they vote at any level.

I disagree. Women's rights are a priority. Their history and their manifesto is evidence of that. Trans rights are also now a priority which, in my opinion, is as it should be.
forfucksakenett · 02/05/2021 12:47

If people want to vote Tory to try and stop independence then I can obviously understand that. Dressing it up as a vote for women I can't.

forfucksakenett · 02/05/2021 12:48

What control does the SNP exert over your life @RedactedTaeFeck ?

ScotlandUnited · 02/05/2021 12:54

willing to drag a country out of an union that the country overwhelmingly votes to Remain in

Bit like the SNP then?

forfucksakenett · 02/05/2021 13:01

@ScotlandUnited

No not like the SNP because there will be a referendum. If the overwhelming majority vote to remain then we will remain Hmm
ScotlandUnited · 02/05/2021 13:11

but the overwhelming majority of the UK voted to leave (I wasn't one of them btw but have accepted the result!)

If the majority of Shetland voted to stay in the UK and the rest of Scotland didn't, would Shetland be allowed to go aw no fair, you canny force independence on us.

Shetland is part of Scotland just like Scotland is part of the UK

You can't argue with stupid.

forfucksakenett · 02/05/2021 13:12

No you really can't.

Shetland is a region.

Scotland is a country.
