Morning, just coming to terms with the messages coming out of ScotGov. Looks like there is a fair chance of another "shelter in place" on the way.

tinseltitsbumfannythelot · 23/12/2020 07:02

Will have a look. This year just keeps giving.

yep - I'm absolutely fine with garden centres and hardware stores being click and collect but the other language around level 4 being too lax for what's coming has me twitchy.

And annoyed again that they are pretending this is level 4 when actually it's the return to a March lockdown in all but name - so just say that. So much for "grown up conversations"... I think what might send me over the edge is if they remove the ability to see another household outdoors - I'm not even planning on seeing that many folk but the knowledge that I can if I'm having a really bad day helps to keen down the number of bad days.

Morning. My dad's funeral today. Then hopefully I can make some time for me.

iquitelikenormalityafterall · 23/12/2020 07:14

Morning. Someone please reassure me, I’m in an absolute panic schools will be shut till after the summer!

iquitelikenormalityafterall · 23/12/2020 07:14

So sorry to hear that, hope it goes okay.

@Groovee Thinking of you re the funeral.

anon444877 · 23/12/2020 07:17

That's ok, I'm sure there will be a lot of bumping into people in the handful of green spaces around us.

I am a bit fed up with the semantics too - how is this tier 4 exactly?

Maybe I'm overly optimistic but I don't think that will happen. If nothing else there's an election in may.

Morning ladies. Knew it was only a matter of time before our dear leader broke the rules herself. As PPs said, if it was a member of the public you'd have sympathy, but not the person who should be leading by example.. Bloody hypocrite. She wouldn't let Boris or Ruth away with doing this would she?

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 23/12/2020 07:25

@Groovee Hope it all goes as well as these things can. Thanks

anon444877 · 23/12/2020 07:33

People are fallible - that's why they should just get that vaccine roll out ASAP. All of the rest of the attempts to manage the crisis are to a large extent luck, unknown factors and hogwash.

If schools don't go back on the 18th, that'll be an electorally interesting decision, I can't see it. It's clear that the risk of covid to children is much smaller than the risk of not getting an education, and having parent(s) who are struggling to work or get by without respite.

anon444877 · 23/12/2020 07:35

That's what I hate about the hopeless 'zero covid' strategy - no travel between the UK in perpetuity, no travel between councils, everyone locked in locally, that's just not a 2 year state of affairs. Of course people are going to break rules.

tinseltitsbumfannythelot · 23/12/2020 07:36

I agree. Load of old bollocks.

I'd say they'll be open Easter at the latest. Between the vaccine roll out and it being a seasonal virus Easter should be us beyond the worse of it. And as already pointed out we have an election that she needs to deal with.

iquitelikenormalityafterall · 23/12/2020 07:49

Watching BBC breakfast, sounds like they will still be really prioritising schools staying open in England, but with increased testing. It’s just so important for the kids to be in school, not just for education but interaction with their peers!

@Groovee thinking of you today

Can someone link to or summarise today's developments? I don't think I can handle anymore bad news ....

anon444877 · 23/12/2020 07:57

So far I've heard:

  1. give more people one dose of the Pfizer since it hits 91 percent protection on first dose and second adds only an extra 4 percent -- bloody good idea suggested by the much derided Tony Blair think tank and picked up by others

  2. NS has been found to have feet of clay and caught in embarrassing not mask wearing situation amongst friends. Just like a lot of other humans really.

Coquohvan · 23/12/2020 08:00

@Groovee all the best today 🙏🏼

BBC news saying France are allowing truckers across with negative rapid tests.

Dinnafashyersel · 23/12/2020 08:02

Groovee Flowers from the quarantined MN click and collect garden centre. Forget all the nonsense and keep your Dad in your heart.

anon agree. Also not clear how they can keep the "Don't Kill Granny" going much longer. They have enough vaccine for all Grannys and Grandpas. If they fail to roll it out that is on them not US.

On a lighter note, (inspired by some twitter poetry related to someone setting their notes on fire during a zoom meeting)

People say she's the life and the soul of the Party cos she tells a joke or two. Well it may seem Funny but no-one's laughing loud and Hearty. Deep inside we're BLUE
So take a good look at the FACTS

I do hope they manage and Scotland follows suit. There was something said about opening 3 massive testing labs across the UK (I know seems late in the day) to increase the number of tests that can be carried out daily. Ok they have said the labs would be used later to increase testing capacity for other things beyond covid.

But It does make sense especially in high schools to do random tests to keep covid out of schools and therefore the wider community.

Maybe that's going to be her party piece 'we now have a massive lab and will test each pupil weekly, so we can now open the schools'

There is a school of thought they want a break of a couple of weeks to bring covid rates down after the illegal new year parties.
