Does this email suggest my husband had an affair with our nanny?

A woman who worked for us as a housekeeper / nanny part time, sent me a message on Facebook messenger. I don’t use it often and found it yesterday. It was sent last November.

it says my husband slept with her in our bed.

then I asked my husband and showed him her messages. He said she approached him but he dismissed her. But then had some emails he said she had written.

one reply from him as follows :-

Hi, I only just found this email….as I was not expecting to hear from you again.

I am happy to have a call with you to talk things over as I do not want you feeling used or upset. I would like to be on good terms with you…I don’t want bad feeling.

I think it is unfair to suggest contacting my name you said you would not cause trouble. To contact my name would just cause huge upset for both our partners and families and helps nobody.

We were nice to each other, but things didn’t work out ….we simply couldn’t arrange to meet at any time, so it effectively fell apart.

You might feel rejected or dismissed…but I didn’t reject or dismiss you - it just wasn’t workable. I did respect you, despite what you think.

what do you make of this? Surely it’s an admission ?? He’s denying anything happened.

Why would she feel used if he didn’t have sex with her? Why would telling partners be devastating for them if nothing happened? Sure, he seems to be saying in the email that he intended more, but changed his mind - but he also seems pretty clearly to admit they had an affair. No idea why he thought showing you this was a good idea. In my experience, women don’t make up that men slept with them to the wife…they tell the truth because that’s their ammunition.

"A sex addiction" - ie he got caught.

God, OP, this man is clearly a manipulative emotional abuser. You don't need proof, you just need to value yourself.

LTB

Calliopespa · 21/09/2026 14:35

I wouldn't bother contacting her Op.

She sounds the type to derive pleasure from the chaos her irresistable (🙄) sexiness has caused.

I think your DH is guilty of being beneath whatever happened. How is he worth it - sex addict, some kind of intrigue with the nanny, trying to slide out of responsibility by deleting some emails and treating you like an idiot with his edited selection?

Who cares what body part went in where, or didn't: he was being inappropriate and disloyal and has admitted he was covering up something that would hurt you in the email he is dumb enough to think exonerates him.

They both sound like people I wouldn't want anywhere near my life.

Not only did he sleep with her, they attempted to have a full blown affair. You would never had known about it had she not of messaged you.
He sounds pretty confident in his message to her, id be looking into if he has done this before the scum bag.
Ive been through this, no matter what he says or promises, it ALWAYS happens again. Don't put urself through it, hes no good

fatphalange · 21/09/2026 15:10

Obviously.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 21/09/2026 16:23

He might not have slept with her but something definitely happened then it stopped quite abruptly

Onwards2627 · 21/09/2026 18:25

Stormyrose · 21/09/2026 11:06

Ok. You know full well he was shagging fhe nanny and she wasn’t some mad woman blackmailing him

and what do you mean he had a sex addiction, do you mean he has history of cheating on you and you’ve both tried to pretend it was a sex addiction ?

if so, then the man is a serial cheat.

A serial cheat and an arrogant one and he is also thick. That is a terrible combination.

So sorry @Catloverlady. He doesn't deserve you.

Sounds like they shared a bed but not full sex.

Freeme31 · 21/09/2026 18:36

100% had affair with her.

CopiedMyBlottingBook · 21/09/2026 18:37

"Nice to each other" is, without doubt, a mealy-mouthed allusion to sexual activity, whether full-on shagging or something else.

comealongdobbeh · 21/09/2026 18:54

Reply to her and ask for proof of his emails etc

ButtercupYellow26 · 21/09/2026 18:56

Yes I am certain he did.

SlightlyTerrifiedButPolite · 21/09/2026 20:38

@Catloverladycan you reply to her message and ask to speak to her? She may also be able to show you the messages he deleted

Sorry OP. He's a prick. Brace yourself as it's going to get worse. But keep in mind, always, there is a better life for you and it's closer than you think 🥂

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 22/09/2026 08:06

I’m not convinced that anything did happen, although I highly suspect it did, but I’m sure they both wanted it to. Which is much the same.

I’m beginning to think so. This life isn’t the one I wanted. I feel sick.

She doesn’t reply to anything. Seems to have blocked my number and hasn’t replied to the email so …. Latest though there were texts but he deleted them. Which I say is incriminating.

MyCatIsAnAeroplane · 22/09/2026 12:33

What are you hoping from all the questions to him and her? That there will be some undeniable evidence of his innocence? I’m sorry to say that isn’t happening now, so either you have to live in the suspicion (well founded) that something happened, and, given his history and current behaviour is pulley to happen again, or you end it.

Thats big and scary but is it scarier than living like this for ever?

Comeonbabylightmyaga · 22/09/2026 13:15

It doesn’t matter if anything happened, he sounds vile regardless.

Instead of waiting for answers I would be making plans to leave.

GoodGirlFaith · 22/09/2026 13:20

Not sure how much more evidence anyone would need, OP.

Sorry this has happened to you.

Newbutoldfather · 22/09/2026 13:21

@Catloverlady ,

‘She doesn’t reply to anything. Seems to have blocked my number and hasn’t replied to the email so …. Latest though there were texts but he deleted them. Which I say is incriminating.’

So, they got back together, or he paid her off.

I mean. I think that you are almost certain that something happened, and that ‘something’ was quite a bit given the tone of the messages. I really doubt it was a one off (maybe a one off for sex, but lots of flirting etc over some period).

I don’t think he will ever confess. He reminds me of the Shaggy song ‘It wasn’t me’! What more proof do you need than what you have already seen.

The only question is, as others have said, what do you want to do about it?

Arlanymor · 22/09/2026 13:35

So this is what should have happened if his 'story' is true... he should have told you and she should have been immediately dismissed.

If neither of these things happened then you have to ask why that is and, when combined with what has been shared with you since, it's looking very bad for him. I'm very sorry this has happened to you, my ex-husband cheated on me with a colleague at work while I was away on a business trip and he didn't initially admit it either, it took a third party to tell me the truth (thank you Laura!)

Conniebygaslight · 22/09/2026 14:18

Catloverlady · 21/09/2026 10:49

I’ve asked a few things.
what about the initial message and they are all deleted so I can’t even see what is truth and lies.
why delete it ? It’s incriminating probably.
then why he didn’t show it to me at the start as many of you have suggested. I would if someone approached me. He has admitted he was flattered by her attention but even this implies intention and interest. I honestly don’t know what to think.
around 10 years ago he had a sex addiction and I forgave that. I can’t do it again. It nearly broke me.
im so distressed.

10 years ago he had a sex addiction....what happened with that OP?
I'm so sorry this whole thing sound awful for you.
