Husband changed phone lock screen from photo of me, he's had for 10+ years to 1 with me and m best friend

As title says, my husband has had the same lock screen photo for 10 plus year across current and old phones. Photo of me on 1 of our days in the mountains together. I have noticed he has recent changed it to a photo of me and my best friend (also female) together. Is it the latest in a series of red flags?

Bit of context, my best friend has actually known my husband longer than I've known her. They both met in scouts and are both still involved as adult staff/ leaders. I can tell when they are both at scouts together as he's always 15-20 mins later coming home as they will stay and chat. They have never dated as me and husband have been together since school. But they do go out together on walks, both share some similar hobbies and they have gone for meals out together, usually for birthdays (her husband is a chef and her birthday is a few days after Valentines day and the chance of a chef getting time off at that time of year is impossible). I didn't really spend much time with her until our kids came along and she's now very much my best friend and 'auntie' to our children, as well as my wine drinking partner when I need to escape the house

Last few years my husband hasn't spent much time with her but the last year or so they have steadily been spending more and more time together alone, as well as time with me, him, her (and occasionally her husband too). Husband doesn't have many male friends, most are women and he has always been close to her (except the few years round Covid where they didn't really talk much)

Am I reading too much into it that he is wanting to spend much more time with her again along with things like changing lock screen photos? Her husband is still working long hours away from home and they don't spend much time together as husband and wife.....

I looked down at my lock screen today and it was a totally different photo to the one I thought was there, and I certainly don’t remember saving it as my lock screen. Phones are weird.

This. I have my locked screen set to change every hour but my wallpaper is supposed to be permanent and sometimes it just randomly changes to a random photo

Watermelonyea · 13/09/2026 16:12

So @Sheepy21 still hasn’t just said “DH how come the change in pic”?

BigFatLiar · 13/09/2026 16:27

OH's screen is the cat but I've always suspected he prefers her. I just put up with itSmile

workshy46 · 13/09/2026 17:18

Have you asked him yet? I’m wondering why you wouldn’t if you are concerned enough to post about it. It’s weird and if a mistake would have changed it by now.

malloryknox123 · 13/09/2026 17:24

That’s called hiding in plain sight. He knows what he’s doing, you do too but he’s cleverly found a way to deny any wrongdoing (and make you look crazy) if challenged.

Had a chat with husband last night. Kept it as unconfrontational as possible and asked why the photo change.

He said after 10 years he wanted a change to 1 more recent, and he liked that photo as I was laughing in it. I mentioned about having another woman other than his wife in the photo. He didn't see it as a problem. He said its not like its a photo of just her as we are both in the photo together, and I'm in the middle of the screen. Maybe men don't think too deeply into things like that. He didn't think it would be a problem but he said he'll look and see if if there was a recent 1 of just me he liked. We tried cropping the photo to just me but it didn't really work as could then tell it was trying to crop someone out and it moved me to edge of the screen.

You were literally right in front of him… you could have suggested he take a photo right there and then!

Fact is… your sister expressed suspicion about your best mate and husband and you didn’t dismiss outright but instead seemed to have taken it quite seriously. Irrespective of whether anything is actually going on - you have serious trust issues with your husband and best mate

SomethingNewish · 13/09/2026 20:17

Sorry OP but.if he wanted an up to date photo of you it would have been absolutely the easiest thing for him to take a new one of you! His explanation makes absolutely no sense.
It's one thing to trusf your H. It's quite another to sit back and be complacent about his very close relationship with this other woman, who he seems to be more intimate with than you. He really knows he can twist you round his finger.

The Op would have been literally right in front of him to take a pic!

Are the people saying this always picture ready?! I’m certainly not. I don’t lounge around the house with my hair and make up done and I’m generally in quite tatty clothes. If my DH whipped out his phone to take a photo of me on a Sunday evening I’d be very unimpressed.

Well only the Op can answer that!

Watermelonyea · 13/09/2026 20:41

But I wouldn’t mind having my pic taken in the evening 🤷‍♀️

No but he could have looked for a better one or just swapped it for another he had on the phone

I agree. However, a couple of posters have said that he could/should have taken a new one of her then and there. That’s what I’m responding to.

Fact that you wouldn’t want a pic taken in the evening doesn’t mean the Op and others wouldn’t @Duckiewasthefirstniceguy !

OP's H says he liked the picture of her because she was smiling. Surely you don't need perfect make up and your best clothes on to smile?

What is wrong with being natural?

Indeed. Similarly, the fact that you would doesn’t mean that others would.

I asked if the people saying this were always camera ready. It was a genuine question, as I am not.

what do you regard as a camera ready for your husband to take a pic of you smiling, which is what he likes about the photo, out of interest?

Nothing as extreme as my best clothes or perfect make up are required, but I wouldn’t be comfortable having photos taken in the state I generally look on a Sunday night. I don’t think that’s particularly unusual, but perhaps it is.

I might actually start a thread and ask. I’m interested.

Watermelonyea · 14/09/2026 09:28

@Sheepy21 this is the ONLY photo your husband has of you smiling ??

that in itself tells us a lot!

A photo of me smiling that is intended to be used as his lock screen? Everyday clothes/makeup/hair (so daytime me) would be fine. Sunday night couch potato me, not so much.
