Would this freak others out?

Because it did freak me out a bit I guess.
Early days but I’m seeing a guy who honestly seems amazing. I’m not the most self confident person and I feel a bit inferior but that’s obviously my problem and not his fault.

Anyway I went to stay over at his for the first time this weekend and whilst the place is beautiful he had some weird stuff around which made me feel uneasy, like old style weapons. And we’re not talking about a nerdy 18 year old basement dweller but a man in his 40s with a good career and really good manners.

I did ask about them, and he explained that it was a hobby. He seems a bit eccentric which is fine, but I think I just don’t understand the interest and it made me feel a bit vulnerable if this makes sense?

He hasn’t given me any other reason to be wary, apart from me wondering why he’d be interested in me considering that we are quite different in some ways, but super compatible in others. I really like him and he seems really keen, too. I don’t want to make this awkward but I think others would find this a bit weird too?

Men who collect weapons are either cringingly weird dorks or violent sociopaths who intend to use them. Can't say I'd want to date either.

yes, dork or violent sociopaths, no possible other explanations 😂

What about women who collect weapons? Are they same?

Firstly yes. But secondly, where are all these women who collect weapons?

Metalmotha · 28/07/2026 11:47

sounds an interesting guy, but to be honest if this puts you off you’ll prob never be compatible so best to both try and find someone more suitable

The crossbows really make me nervous too and I can’t put my finger on why.

Me too. I just can't think why anyone would want one unless they completed in competitions.

what do you mean, where are they?

I am guessing everywhere? For the same reasons men are? YOU might not know any, and looking at some ridiculous reactions on here, I can guess why some people will not tell posters from this threads.

Some women are interested in history, some women love shooting range and have a keen interest in modern weapons, some women are keen martial artists and collect weapons related to their interest

How hard can it be to realise many women are as interested, for all the same reasons a man will be, and have the same collections.

Or does it make you feel better about yourself to imagine all of us only fascinated by our kitchen and dusters?

Gloriia · 28/07/2026 11:51

'He’s really interesting and good looking,'

Oh op come on. He displays whips and crossbows it doesn't matter if he's good-looking. As pp have said he's either a weirdo, violent or both. That Dahmer bloke was apparently good looking too!

Hey if you know a bunch of women who collect weapons then fair enough. You're all still either weirdos or potential killers though.

Having an interest in martial arts is not comparable to using weapons to decorate your home.

LostThestral · 28/07/2026 11:19

why? genuinely confused by this, you don't cook with a katana

My point is that if someone wants to do you harm there are much more readily available, dangerous things to do it with, in everyone's house. A Katana is not a practical weapon inside a house.

Please not one tell her that there are women in the Armed Police or in the military 😂

merely giving examples of women who collect weapons and some of their possible reasons. And also, because they WANT to.

That's debatable. You can find enough photos of him online.

Ladies, if you have pictures of anything but fluffy kittens on your wall YOU ARE A WEIRDO

LostThestral · 28/07/2026 11:57

good grief, have none of people ever heard of comic con - goodness knows what you make of that!

I've known women in the military. Never seen a weapon used as decoration before. They tend to go to M&S like most normal people

Is this guy going to M&S with his swords then?

No no you buy normal homeware from these types of outlets. One should certainly not take a sword anywhere.

I think if he’s otherwise good then it’s benefit of the doubt for now.

not kittens....not unless they have been declawed (joke)

Plankingponyclub · 28/07/2026 12:45

He’s really good other than that and I definitely have a crush on him. I’ll tell him how I felt about it and will see what he says.
And thanks for some good laughs here too 😀

Because every woman who is aware of the world is afraid of violent men. And this guy is giving signs that he may be one.

OP, big corporate job, very confident, as PP said he may enjoy that you feel a bit insecure and intimidated... it gives Patrick Bateman vibes.

Well yeah, but a collection of weapons is not an indication of a violent man any more than a collection of horror movies is.

Signs of a violent man include a lack of self control, disrespect and boundary pushing, none of which OP has described. Rather, she's described basically a nice bloke who happens to have a hobby.

Cooking must be quite hard in your house.

The point of this response is?

utensils and katanas are two different things

ginasevern · 28/07/2026 12:48

Nope. I wouldn't date anyone that owned crossbows. The OP says these aren't even old or replicas, they're fully functioning modern ones. So they're neither of historic interest or harmless. Even if he wasn't a "Travis Bickle" in the making, his sheer interest in something that renders an agonising death to humans and animals would revolt me.
