Would this freak others out?

Because it did freak me out a bit I guess.
Early days but I’m seeing a guy who honestly seems amazing. I’m not the most self confident person and I feel a bit inferior but that’s obviously my problem and not his fault.

Anyway I went to stay over at his for the first time this weekend and whilst the place is beautiful he had some weird stuff around which made me feel uneasy, like old style weapons. And we’re not talking about a nerdy 18 year old basement dweller but a man in his 40s with a good career and really good manners.

I did ask about them, and he explained that it was a hobby. He seems a bit eccentric which is fine, but I think I just don’t understand the interest and it made me feel a bit vulnerable if this makes sense?

He hasn’t given me any other reason to be wary, apart from me wondering why he’d be interested in me considering that we are quite different in some ways, but super compatible in others. I really like him and he seems really keen, too. I don’t want to make this awkward but I think others would find this a bit weird too?

I’m a bit worried you went to my house! DH collects similar things, it’s not sinister at all, just an interest. Just talk to him about it if you feel uncomfortable and try and understand why he’s interested

What a staggeringly passive person you must be, wandering through life forever dependent on other people for anything at all and utterly unprepared for the slightest change in the normal and predictable world. I am sure you're in for a shock someday :)

Grin

I'm very able and people who know me would never describe me as 'passive'. I get through life very well thanks without the need to carry a knife.

What on earth do you need to carry a knife and a 'multitool' for. Being prepared for what exactly? Do you live in the wilds, like to catch your own tea perhaps?

I carry one. It comes in very useful on walks in the country, out hiking, going on bike rides and at the stables. I've cut free trapped sheep, taken off a loose shoe from a horse, reworked a snapped dog lead, freed a gate that wouldn't move and repaired a strap on a handbag. Probably other things as well that I can't remember.

Never, ever accept an invitation to visit Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor at his home in that case...

Are you serious? Does he have a collection of teddy bears? That's just too perfect.

Oh yes - he's infamous for having 72 of them which he would make his staff replace on his bed after he got up each morning in a very specific arrangement - you honestly can't make this stuff up! Have a google, it's just jaw dropping!!

What about going to the house of a guy who has nothing creepy? Crazy idea, no?

Misogynist violence is bonkers, we are just bringing it to light in this thread. Shoot the messenger if it makes you happy, it doesn't make the problem disappear.

But it depends on your definition of creepy. Right? If you like weaponry, you’re not going to find weaponry creepy, you’ll find it interesting to find someone else into it.

I’d find a lack of any identifiers creepy…y’know, where everything in the place looks like it was bought as a set with neutral hotel-style artwork, and there’s no dog-eared paperbacks or signs of any hobbies or interests, or even a Highland claymore on the wall. Just devoid of personality. That’s when I’d run. Anything else just has a story behind it.

Oh grow up. How many victims of domestic abuse die by crossbow? And remember - 1.5 million men are subject to DA too.

Suzanne Blamires (if you include women rather than narrowing down to domestic abuse)
Sana Muhammad
Sana Muhammad's unborn child
Hannah Hunt
Louise Hunt

(US based, taking into account there is access to firearms there, so murders are more likely to be via those)
Pamela Nightlinger
The three week old daughter of Patrick Proefriedt when he shot at her mother when she was holding the baby and it went through the infant
Samy Sedhom's sister (unsuccessful)
The wife of Michael Rogaskie as she slept in bed (unsuccessful)

Males: one ongoing case in the UK.

You grow up.

Shiiit. I swear I did not know that. Perfectly proves my point!

I studied anti- Semitic propaganda as part of my degree. I have some seriously dodgy stuff on my bookshelves, but I’m in no was anti- Semitic .

Have a conversation with him. If he’s serious about you, I’m sure he can put the cross bows away or get rid of them.

How long had you known him.before you went to his house..for a weekend? And had he talked to you about his hobbies beforehand or were you juts walking into a house of crowebows and knives with no forewarning. And the qhip..sounds foreboding. I think that would be the issue for me, and I'd find it disturbing. Particularly given you say you are not confident and feel inferior.... people spot that a mile off and you could be vulnerable too somwthing more sinister. Am aware man would have spoken about that...

About 5 weeks. He had mentioned interests but nothing that made me expect anything odd in the house.
No, I don’t like the whip and it anywhere near me. It looked old and I don’t even want to think what that means. He didn’t say anything about it and didn’t seem overly interested and we talked about other things. I would have found it a lot stranger had he insisted on telling me every detail tbh.
