A follow on from my previous 3 threads; “my husband said he wanted to split up and I’ve been totally blindsided”.

I absolutely love all of these 🤣

Haha love a bit of wordplay. Can you save him in your phone as Little Richard NRG?
Hopefully cryptic enough that the kids won't figure it out for a good few years, yet if they read it out to him, he will 🤣

If the kids ask, it stands for Non Resident Guardian

‘We’re not together anymore and we didn’t arrange to attend together - it didn’t occur to me for a minute that you’d expect to hang out with me, sorry.’ Said nice and cheerfully/lightly. I’d then be tempted to give his arm a condescending squeeze and suggest bringing his mum along in future if he can’t face these things alone.

I’d love to be able to sleep diagonally on a king size bed haha. What the heck is a super king size when it’s at home! Think that would have swamped most rooms.

When I left my ex, I’d had 2o years gripping on tight to the edge 6 inches of a double bed, because he took up the rest of the space. First thing I did was buy a super king bed. And spread out, slept diagonally, and in the middle and let the dogs on with me. It’s awesome. I’ve since replaced the mattress but I’ll die happy in that bed.

Sadly I think you need to be prepared for him to object in the future to you being present during his 50% i.e. today was his day with the children so no need for you to be there.
thus you will be accused of controlling again.

And whilst it is under 6 months away, I don't think you should have any hopes/expectations re Christmas i.e. if it is your 50/50 day do not allow yourself to hope he will contact the children.

I think that is overly pessimistic. Lots of parents get to a point post-split up where they can put the children first. Recognising that both being there on sports day is a good thing would be an example of that. My DH and his ex used to do sports day and parents' evening together when their kids were at school. Their relationship is civil rather than cordial but they could manage that.

I genuinely would like to think that we could do this in the future as yes it would be what is best for the kids, however as you said, I am nowhere near even the thought of this yet. The thought of him moving on with someone else still makes my eyes sting.

I’m hoping he will never sink as low as to say “oh well this event is happening on my day, so you aren’t impacting my time with them.” I don’t think he would do that though; he knows how much the kids love having both of us at their special events and how important it is to them and to me.

You would just say all parents are welcome at school and sports club events, don’t be ridiculous. Go complain to the school and leave me alone.

you don’t have to attend these events together. you are perfectly ok to say that you just need a bit of space right now. You are allowed to ask for what you want. Yes it’s nice for the kids to see their parents together but right now it’s better for you to have some space and feel your feelings. You matter too.your boundaries are valid.

At some point in the future you might feel up to attending events together but it is ok if you don’t feel that way right now. You don’t need to rush your recovery. You aren’t three years down the line yet so don’t feel you have to compare yourself to people who are. Your ex was manipulating. It is good for you not to be in a position where he can manipulate you.

so glad you got your babies home. Enjoy the squishes.

A friend invented the insult 'wankerbreath' which is fantastic but a bit complicated for an acronym!
OP - you are an inspiration and an example to us all. Poise, determination, dignity; when all this blows over you'll have nothing to feel embarrassed, mortified, or guilty about.

Why the "sorry"?

🙄

I’ve just had a message from him about his drop off on Friday morning when the kids come back to me again for the 5 days and he said “I’ll drop them off at 7 as I want to go and get my hair cut first thing.” This is coming from the man who could not drag himself out of bed anywhere near 7am when 4 kids were being noisy, yet can do it no problem when it involves a hair cut and meaning he can start his “time off” as early as possible 🙄

I can't be sure I'll be home by 7am, make it closer to 8am, please"

Then watch him flap about where you are and what you've been doing that you might not be home 😁

Another one to keep a note of

TheScreen · 14/07/2026 13:22

What barbers are open at that time of the morning?! He's such a lazy liar.

Do you not have agreed times for drop offs? I thought the idea was he'd drop at school/nursery and you'd pick them up?

Don't let him take the piss.
