I met a guy on online dating. He asked where I lived. I told him my whereabouts. He then responded saying 'lots of ducks to feed there.'
Does anyone knows what he means by this?

hoophoophooray
Off topic but I lived there for 10 years and my mum still lives there. Lovely little place 🙂

Explains all those yeast infections.

🤣🤣🤣

midlifecrash · 04/09/2023 23:36

I think he meant ducks! St James park, green park, ponds, he’s thinking maybe a walk! And it is true that RSPB and other charities say don’t give them bread. They also tend to say that the ducks will love lettuce instead.
I have tried this.
I have disappointed many ducks.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 04/09/2023 23:37

Back in a previous life I had a client whose job was “duck sexer”. He worked for Cherry Valley.

Plexie · 04/09/2023 23:38

St James' Park has a lake with lots of water birds (ducks, geese, swans, pelicans). But most people are likely to associate Westminster with politicians, so I think politicians = wankers is more likely than literal ducks.

What kind of person was he OP? This is exactly the sort of unfiltered rubbish I would say if say, Westminster, prompted a memory of feeding the ducks or seeing a film set there where people were feeding ducks.

Was he a bit nervous? Was he very witty and likely to be making quite obscure comments about wankers in Westminster? Only you've met him. But I can totally see myself saying something like this and genuinely meaning it, just verbal diarrhea.

I don't know much about him yet.
He's liberal, highly educated, and into healthy eating, not heavy on carbs I'd imagine.
He looks like a decent gentleman.
We'd been talking about our love of cafes and were just trying to agree a location for a 1st coffee date when he tossed this at me.

Him: We should meet for coffee them. I live in La La land. What about you?
Me: I live Westminster.
Him: Lots of ducks to feed there!

@midlifecrash What type of lettuce? I can imagine they might be disappointed with iceberg lettuce. Maybe something with dark leaves instead?

VerityUnreasonble · 04/09/2023 23:46

Maybe he has a particular interest in ducks.

What does Lots of ducks to feed mean here???
tolerable · 04/09/2023 23:49

Can you say-why did you say theres loads of ducks to feed?
then...he can REVEAL why
and you can tell us.
or is that weird?

Webb?

Redglitter · 04/09/2023 23:56

I'd have to ask him. Don't read anything into it yet.

FrostieBoabby · 05/09/2023 00:02

Oh I so hope there is a lovely pond with ducks just waiting to be fed. Hopefully it's not my other suggested solution to the puzzle and he hit D instead of F on the keyboard!

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 05/09/2023 00:09

Do you live in a town called Gressingham?

LordLetMeGlow · 05/09/2023 00:15

Wait, what? He lives in "la la land"?

Pinkpots · 05/09/2023 00:17

You should just ask him what he means by it, be prepared he might duck the question and you’ll probably have ruffled his feathers by asking.
Other thought, bear with me, lots of ducks = duck pond = sex pond maybe he likes a hot tub?

IslandAngle · 05/09/2023 00:17

La La land AND feeding the ducks.
Totally intrigued now.

Underminer · 05/09/2023 00:20

LunaNorth · 04/09/2023 22:43

Just ask him what he means, in a jokey way.

’Ducks to feed? What does that mean when it’s at home?’

And if it’s pervy, get rid. You don’t want to end up with half a Mother’s Pride up the ol’ wazzoo.

🤣

midlifecrash · 05/09/2023 00:21

@Plexie shreds of cos lettuce

and I might as well come right out and admit it. During lockdown I thought “they’re not that keen on lettuce, maybe I can make it more palatable” and I baked some little pellets of salad greens and a bit of potato and breadcrumbs. The ducks came running up. But..
if you ever want to see a duck go “nah, mate, nah, that’s all right, thanks”…

pizzaHeart · 05/09/2023 00:22

From your update about the context I wondered if he meant that there’re plenty of places at Westminster where you could meet for coffee. He just said it in a fancier way maybe trying to impress you.

LauderSyme · 05/09/2023 00:22

I think La la land is meant to preserve the decent gentleman's anonymity. (Sorry, pedant here).

Pieceofpurplesky · 05/09/2023 00:24

I think he just meant feeding the ducks. They feed the ducks in a park in London, in About a Boy. The duck dies.
Not as exciting as some of the other ideas but I think he was alluding to the fact you live near parks with ponds and ducks

pizzaHeart · 05/09/2023 00:26

Also is he from UK originally? If not, it could be an idiom, translated from his first language.
apologies if it was mentioned already,

Underminer · 05/09/2023 00:28

Feed the ducks = stroll along the Thames for a first date.

If he knows you’re on the spectrum and it is anything other than going for a walk along the river, ditch him.

WhatapityWapiti · 05/09/2023 00:38

I think he was literally referring to feeding ducks. Quite a few London parks sell food to feed to the ducks and geese, so it’s still an acceptable thing to do as long as you don’t try to feed them bread.

travelogue · 05/09/2023 00:41

St James's park? Maybe he really means ducks. Isn't there a ruddy great pond in it? I'd never have thought this meant loads of wankers or was a sexual reference.
