I met a guy on online dating. He asked where I lived. I told him my whereabouts. He then responded saying 'lots of ducks to feed there.'
Does anyone knows what he means by this?

Watch you don’t fall fowl to his answer 🦆

AutumnalPumpkin · 05/09/2023 00:42

Not going to sleep until I have a solid answer. I'm so intrigued 🤣

CallieQ · 05/09/2023 00:52

Get yr ducks in a row?

BlooBagoo · 05/09/2023 01:02

Aylesbury duck. Google it. Trust me.

But make sure you spell it correctly. My phone autocorrects duck to fuck. That was a Google search I won't forget quickly.

From your update about the context I wondered if he meant that there’re plenty of places at Westminster where you could meet for coffee. He just said it in a fancier way maybe trying to impress you.

Yes, maybe it’s a new corporate-speak phrase? (I heard “spitballing” for the first time at work recently, ew)

continentallentil · 05/09/2023 01:31

That he has triplet toddlers and wants to to meet them on Saturday. With a bag of bread.

bpirockin · 05/09/2023 01:54

I have a blood disorder and one of the symptoms is word confusion. I could very easily say ducks instead of pigeons, and because of other issues, might not even realise what I'd said. I'd just ask him straight out, or say that pigeons are easier to come by, or something like that. Maybe he was just nervous.

MadinMarch · 05/09/2023 03:31

My googling also led me here: www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Feed%20the%20ducks

According to the link above, the phrase refers to wanking.
You said you live in Westminster. 'Westminster' in his mind conjures up The Houses of Parliament. He is commenting that there are lots of wankers within that building/institution.
He wouldn't be far wrong really...

Urban Dictionary: Feed the ducks

1) v. A term used to describe male masturbation. It is often noted that masturbating and feeding ducks involve very similar hand motions. 2) v. The act of giving food to ducks.

I think he might be referring to the old espionage trope of spies pretending to feed the ducks in St James' park while they exchange information.

tankcrossing · 05/09/2023 04:46

i'm in tears I tell ya, tears

Also, we have a little stream running through our garden with a family of ducks living in it. Must tell DP not to feed the ducks in view if the neighbours, just to see if he knows what it means.

If he starts mentioning eagles flying low over Moscow or something whilst ahem feeding the ducks....

LadyOfTheCanyon · 05/09/2023 05:17

Oh yes absolutely.

'The weather is particularly fine in Volgograd this time of year.'

smashburger · 05/09/2023 05:46

I knew, just knew when stumbling across this that the op wouldn't return
I'm so glad I found it now and not when it was first posted. Just sitting waiting for the drop

Anyway. My guess was going to be that fuck is changed to duck on his phone

So - lots of fucks to feed

Newnamehiwhodis · 05/09/2023 05:50

I feel like it was one of those idiotic observations one throws out when awkwardly trying to be friendly, then cringes about later.
the poor man has no idea an internet full of women has just completely spun utter gold out of that one sentence. 🤣🤣

usernother · 05/09/2023 05:58

If you didn't know what he meant I can't understand why you didn't just ask him.

I asked him whether he meant ducks or tossers.
He hasn't responded to me yet. Hence why I'm yet to report back.
Trust me I've spent the night checking whether he's responded or even unmatched me. But nothing yet.
I'm actually not impressed by his few lines per day communication. Why throw me a confusing/controversial line of expression and then go mute?
Silly silly man. Complicates life for no justifiable reason. Like I don't have enough things to expend my brain energy on; he adds to the load. I just want to go on a coffee date - simple 😢

Isn't it interesting how many dirty MNers are automatically instantly eliminating the second definition of 'feeding the ducks' given on Urban Dictionary (of all places), which is "The act of giving food to ducks"?!

Alternatively, is he originally from the East Midlands, where 'duck' means 'person'? Might he be referring to an inordinate amount of homeless/poor people in the area, who cannot afford to buy food? Is he (and this might be a little bit of a long shot) Marcus Rashford?!?!

Urban Dictionary: Duck

A water chicken.

Zanatdy · 05/09/2023 06:26

Well he either likes spending time in St James Park (I do, and I can confirm there are a lot of ducks there, pelicans too!). I’d guess it’s some kind of reference to politicians if you live in Westminster. Not sure what, do report back!!

hashbrownsandwich · 05/09/2023 06:31

He means lots of potential people to date.

66rabbits · 05/09/2023 06:38

Oh he has a lovely romantic idea of going for a coffee with you in a beautiful London park, and then standing by the pond feeding adorable ducks, watching the sunlight glimmer on its surface, before walking away hand in hand, all laughter and smiles as the light fades quietly amongst the trees.

MargotMoon · 05/09/2023 06:46

He's suggesting a walk in the park! Not literally feeding ducks.

Red flags? Silly silly man? A controversial line of expression?

He’s just talking about ducks mate.

Honestly just ditch this one, he wants a nice girl to feed the ducks with, not Charlie deep in his Pepe Silvia phase.

cluelessbingo · 04/09/2023 23:39

I don't know much about him yet.
He's liberal, highly educated, and into healthy eating, not heavy on carbs I'd imagine.
He looks like a decent gentleman.
We'd been talking about our love of cafes and were just trying to agree a location for a 1st coffee date when he tossed this at me.

Him: We should meet for coffee them. I live in La La land. What about you?
Me: I live Westminster.
Him: Lots of ducks to feed there!

Oh ok, I didn't realise it was only over messages. I still think he meant it literally and conversationally.

Really?

Well, I'm close to ponds in Green Park, Hyde Park etc... I go through these places regularly and don't really pay attention to the ducks. Are they that much of creatures of interest?

In that case I don't see what he said as weird. During my childhood and with my kids, you take bread to feed ducks when you go to a pond. I'd say thats normal wher I live/ lives.
