Polly and her Dollies are counting down to Christmas

Hello my lovelies

Is this going to be the thread where I finally get divorced? Will my Ring of Fabulousness ever be worn? Will the Divorce Tattinger be drunk?

I bloody well hope so. It's been a very long time coming.

Here we are again. In the main headline news... I'm still not fucking divorced from Geller. I've had to sign an affidavit for the absolute application to say yes, I want to proceed, because it's taken so bloody long.

The Dollies are amazing, brilliant and pains in the bum in equal measures Grin I can't believe how much they're growing up. For Christmas they want to learn how to make me a cup of tea for my present. I'll take that. DD1 hasn't had a good couple of weeks, not helped by me having a whole load of work done in the house so things here have been a bit chaotic. DD2 has been off school poorly with D&V, poor little mite.

Geller remains an eejit who is unable to put the Dollies first. The shenanigans have been unbelievable and of true Geller quality levels. I am rising above. And doing a lot of deep breathing. My parents have now moved house and my mother is being her usual self. I've distanced myself quite a bit. I did help them out for a day but that's it.

I'm becoming addicted to exercise again and have graduated to the fast lane in the swimming pool, hurrah. I've survived several spin classes and even treated myself to a new pair of trainers. My gardening is coming on nicely (I'm very good in autumn with slash and burn, I can do destruction) and I've now got my new shed up.

Work is insanely busy and I'm on the edge of a new possibility which will, if it comes off, be life changing for me and the Dollies in terms of security. It's going to be a crazy few months but I'll give it all I've got.

I haven't heard from Westley since I threw my toys out of the pram with him wanting to still be friends and message me randomly - no. I'm too good for breadcrumbing and I've got enough friends, thank you. I'm not dating, not planning on dating and finally feel like I'm starting to move on. But it's not a priority for me right now, although I do really miss cuddles. And sex!

Perhaps most excitingly, today I am trialling a new foundation. It's supposed to be a dupe of Estee Lauder's Double Wear, which I love, but I just can't justify the cost of for everyday wear.

As ever, if you're still following me, thank you. Without MN and you all I wouldn't be where I am today.

StuckInPollyannaMode · 23/11/2022 20:30

Oh no Polly - poor DD2 💐

Perhaps the mumps component of her MMR vaccine didn't take?

HugHeart · 23/11/2022 20:35

🍫🍷💊

RandomMess · 23/11/2022 20:37

Oh no.

Is it awful to wish them on Gellar?

Fraaahnces · 23/11/2022 20:43

Poor kid… it’s still possible unfortunately.

StuckInPollyannaMode · 23/11/2022 20:50

Maybe it’s payback for DD1 having Covid 3 times but DD2 having never had it.

they’re both desperately upset I’m saying they can’t sleep together tonight

Oh god, mumps is the only childhood illness that I vividly remember it was awful, I was about 10 and just the pain! I've always been a woose when it comes to sore throats maybe the mumps is why! I feel for her and you. I hope that she recovers quickly and doesn't give it to her sister! Honey and lemon......I'd be tempted to add the whiskey so she sleeps easily 😁

RandomMess · 23/11/2022 20:58

TBF I think it's one where you are far more contagious before the symptoms appear

LadyDanburysHat · 23/11/2022 20:59

Poor DD having mumps, I hope she doesn't suffer too badly.

As for Geller, I'm not sure you are ever going to get through to him. He will never stop with his stupid messages. If only there was a way to block anythign but an emergency.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 23/11/2022 21:01

Would Geller wish to risk having the Mumps?

It could mean they have a peaceful fortnight...

pointythings · 23/11/2022 21:12

Oh Polly, what rotten luck! I had mumps when I was very young and I still remember the pain - and I'm almost 55. Sometimes the vaccines don't work.

Mumps is potentially very serious in adults so it might not be great if Geller catches it. Definitely batten down the hatches with Calpol, chocolate and wine (for you) and ride it out.

RandomMess · 23/11/2022 21:20

Testicles shrinking and drop in sperm count, nah not serious at his age and stage of life.

sianiboo · 23/11/2022 21:35

Both my brothers caught mumps at the same time (when we were 5, 4 and 2) and I didn't. Never did. Was really weird as later in life I've had both German and normal measles a number of times (due to neglectful narcissistic parents not making sure me and my older brother got the MMR).

Last time I got German measles as an adult I ended up in hospital. I honestly wanted to die at one point. Anti vaxxers make so fucking mad...I don't care if their brats get it, but it can kill adults.

RandomMess · 23/11/2022 21:45

Normal measles is truly evil for everyone, we only vaccinate against German Measles due to causing birth defects.

I think generations have forgotten how serious the effects of these diseases can be.

alterego2 · 23/11/2022 22:26

Oh @StuckInPollyannaMode poor DD1 and you! My images of mumps is of very square jawed people with their chins and heads tied up with flannel. It's very old fashioned but perhaps there's method to the madness? Keeping those swollen glands warm may well help with the pain. Otherwise, hot drinks. for her and wine for you ...

comfortablyfrumpy · 23/11/2022 22:40

Oh goodness, I hope DD recovers quickly xx

chesterelly1 · 23/11/2022 23:20

GinFlowersCake for you. I remember having mumps but only on one side, according to DM

Fraaahnces · 24/11/2022 04:05

Eh? MMR is measles, mumps, rubella. I guess it’s a choice. If the kids have been vaccinated it’s still possible to get it, but will be much milder case.

DD2 can have ibuprofen and paracetamol at the same time. Also a fan of using frozen peas (or corn) for swelling on facial area to mould to face. Just use a cloth between the packet and skin. Obviously these can be repeatedly refrozen as required.

BuffOrpingtons · 24/11/2022 09:57

Oh Polly, poor DD2. Lots of TLC and whatever pain relief makes her more comfortable for the early days, which are worse. I had mumps when I was about 5 years old. My DSis was 3 and she caught it from me. No MMR in those days, measles was the only part of the triple that was given to babies back in the 70s, and whooping cough at some point. But I didn't have my Rubella jab until I was 14, and it was done at school (again, very normal back in the day) and no one at all was vaccinated against mumps!

But she's vaccinated, so hopefully it will be a relatively mild dose compared to those of us who had it without one. It's a good reminder that vaccines don't necessarily stop you getting the disease thought. My poor DSiS had an awful time of it with whooping cough, even though she'd been vaccinated - she was very poorly for almost a month, and it really brought it home how easily it must have killed children before that particular vaccine was invented.

Do you think Geller will still expect to have them, even though DD2 is poorly, and you're trying to keep DD1 from catching it too? Or will he think it's far too much bother and delegate it all to you as 'appropriate woman's work - I'm far too important doing man work'?

Mix56 · 24/11/2022 10:29

Geller won't have either now until DD2 is better, as he 1) can't risk his "demi-god" self getting it, & 2) will say they are already at yours so best to quarantine,
ie, 3 can't be arsed with sick or indeed any children

fancyacuppatea · 24/11/2022 13:30

RandomMess · 23/11/2022 20:37

Oh no.

Is it awful to wish them on Gellar?

No, not at all.
My first thought was "I hope little Dolly feels better soon"
My second was "I hope she's already shared it with her father"
Grin

@StuckInPollyannaMode sending you Ginand lots of love for the Dollies...and praying that Geller has very a very achy nut sack and no sleep tonight. Wink

fancyacuppatea · 24/11/2022 13:31

oops, too many verys...or maybe not enough. 🤦‍♀️
🥜

NyanBinaryJohn · 24/11/2022 13:50

Oh your poor DD. I had mumps as an adult despite being vaccinated and it was very unpleasant. At least she's young and she'll bounce back soon enough.

Geller getting it might stop him reproducing with a future victim GF. Just a thought...

LiesDoNotBecomeUs · 24/11/2022 15:24

Poor DD! I hope she is like me - I felt unwell for a day but then pretty fine AND had to stay home from school :)💃. My sister got it a day after me and followed the same pattern so we were able to amuse each other in our school-free time. (We did a lot of roller-skating.)

We did not see our Dad for two weeks 🤔
