Boyfriend is ridiculously tight with money

Would being this ‘careful’ with money be enough for you to get rid of a boyfriend? We’re both mid twenties, I’m ok financially (not a drain on him), he’s very sorted financially. Recent examples that have annoyed me.

  1. Expecting us to sleep in a car after a day out in London save paying for a hotel.
  2. Will only buy reduced food, even if doesn’t like it much.
  3. Constantly reminding me I owed him £10 after he’d stayed at mine all week.
  4. If we go out together we must split everything equally down to the penny.

This is someone that has tens of thousands in the bank and a good job! Seems to be a family trait, his dad is a LL, most of his properties are in London but he walks round in the same battered pair of shoes.

I couldn't deal with that

OuchLegoHurts · 06/10/2017 19:31

I find tightness with money the biggest turn off of all in a person. How can that be sexy? Yuck!

Rubyslippers7780 · 06/10/2017 19:31

Too tight. Sleep in a car???
No chance.
Time to move on

elQuintoConyo · 06/10/2017 19:32

I'd run a fucking mile. Imagine having kids with him

AccrualIntentions · 06/10/2017 19:32

Any one of those things alone would put me off.

mumofone234 · 06/10/2017 19:32

Ugh, no. That's excessive.

SparklingRaspberry · 06/10/2017 19:32

No way. I'd be gone!

Ecureuil · 06/10/2017 19:33

It would be game over for me.
Being tight is not an attractive trait. I couldn’t spend my life living like that.

Youcanttaketheskyfromme · 06/10/2017 19:33

Bin.

Sleep in the car ? Fuck off. I'd have paid for a hotel and told him he could sleep in the car.

MyBrilliantDisguise · 06/10/2017 19:34

God, how can you stand it? Sleep in the car when he has thousands of pounds in the bank? Asking you for a tenner when he's been sponging off you all week? Awful bloke!

PNGirl · 06/10/2017 19:34

No no no. No. No. This is a man that will happily see you rotating 3 milk-stained Sainsbury's vest tops on maternity leave because you aren't earning "your own" money.

HumphreyCobblers · 06/10/2017 19:35

Bin him.

He will not change. He would be completely dispiriting with to have any kind of relationship with. I know it is a cliche to state, but people who know the price of everything and the value of nothing are not nice people to be around

MonkeyBrainsInPickle · 06/10/2017 19:35

Run for the hills!

Shayelle · 06/10/2017 19:35

Sure wouldnt get the fanny gallops for a tightarse like that!!!

MsGameandWatching · 06/10/2017 19:36

Did you actually sleep in the car?!

Ploppie4 · 06/10/2017 19:36

Totally ridiculous sleeping in cars and only buying reduced food and holding £10 against you. Very measly. I’d be tempted to call him Scrooge each time he behaved badly. Have you sat and chatted to him?

Splitting 50/50 is less of an issue

sweetkitty · 06/10/2017 19:37

Totally agree bin him now before it's too late. Imagine spending the next 20 years with him.

BarbaraOcumbungles · 06/10/2017 19:37

I'd be saying tarabit!

Puffpaw · 06/10/2017 19:37

Dh is sensible, I am profligate, but neither of us would ever have slept in car on purpose after a night out!

CurlyhairedAssassin · 06/10/2017 19:37

I’m not a big spender and now like bargains but the examples you give are ridiculous. You would never be able to have kids together - god, the arguments!

thatdearoctopus · 06/10/2017 19:37

Exactly, PNGirl. Look ahead and imagine being married to this guy and having a baby. You're on maternity leave. Do you really think he won't make you suffer for that? You'll have the added agony of having to ask for money and account for every penny you need to spend on the baby. And forget about any necessities, let alone luxuries, for yourself.

Run. Run far far away.

Queenofthedrivensnow · 06/10/2017 19:38

Fanny gallops for sure with this stunner!

pictish · 06/10/2017 19:39

Based on 3 alone, it's not sounding good.

Scattrercushion · 06/10/2017 19:39

Yes. This will be the start and it will get worse. Life is too short for all that carry on.

TinDogTavern · 06/10/2017 19:40

Sleep in a CAR with ££££ in the bank? FUCK no. That's not just tight it's horrible. He expects you to go without decent shelter and access to a toilet to save money, when he has loads? That's horrible. He's horrible. End it.
