How long were you together before you got engaged?

Disclosure - I do not want my DP to propose or to be engaged yet but I'm just wondering what the average relationship length is before you get engaged? My parents were engaged 4 months after meeting each other ( which I know is unusual) and I've been with DP for 4 years and no ring is on either of our horizons right now.

Dh and I got engaged after 4 months. Married within the year and been together now 12 years.

First time around, 18 months. In hindsight, far too soon. How can you expect to know someone in such a short space of time. 20 years & 2 children down the line & been with someone 3 years. Not a chance we'll do it yet. It's a massive commitment & 3 years is nothing.

10 months married him three months later, 40 years this year. It really does depend on the individuals and financial circumstances imo. I had known him for a few years before we started dating though.

We had been together for 6 years before getting married. Weren't properly engaged as we had talked about getting married for ages then one day decided to book it for 2 months later. There was no proposal or ring ect.

Got engaged three weeks after meeting, married two years later. We've now been married 19 years and have three children

Six years before we got engaged, Now we have been married for 11. And there was a year between engagement and marriage

Getting married on our 10 year anniversary next year.

In our defense, we were 17 when we met and we bought a house after we'd both finished uni, so never got round to the engagement/ marrying thing until late :)

22 anniversary on Saturday.

We talked about it about 2 months after getting together, but sort of officially engaged after a year and getting married this sept, so nearly 2 half years.

I think other poster are right, it does depend on the person and the particulars of the relationship, not to mention the family too.

About 2 weeks after we got together DH proposed.

Had to wait 3 years to get married though as we had DD after we had only been together a year.

6.5 years before I finally ground him down enough to ask! Then I acted all surprised lol

Together 14 months when we got engaged, then engaged for 16 months before wedding, now together almost 3 years and a baby on the way

7 years, we were "high school sweethearts" I suppose so being engaged would have been weird! We got married at 24/25.

We were together 18 months before DH proposed and we got married 2 years after that. Coming up to 25 years of marriage.

9 months. Married 16 months later and celebrating our 15 anniversary next month.

We got engaged - well I got a ring no proposal after about 1.5yrs - we already had one DD and were living together. Got married another 1.5yrs later on our 3rd anniversary have been together 9yrs married for 6 this year.

Engaged after 6 weeks, married after 18 months nearly 16 years ago.

After 5 years as a couple, living together for 4 of those. Got married the year after getting engaged and will have been married 7 years this year. We'd talked about the future quite a bit before he proposed including being married and having a family. He told me then he'd never marry anyone he had been with less than 5 years, and he stuck to it!
