I've really fucked up - contacted ex anonymously and he figured out it was me

Name changed for this. As everything put together would most definitely out me.

I just feel awful. I sent a jokey e-mail to him from an anonymous account and he somehow figured out it was me. I now want to crawl into a dark cave and stay there forever.

That's quite creepy

GoofyTheHero · 07/10/2016 13:29

What were you hoping to achieve?

WakeMeWhenThisIsDone · 07/10/2016 13:30

Your posts have made me not feel quite so awful.

He guessed when he replied to initial e-mail saying "Wake me, is that you? If so how are you?"

I tried to pretend it wasn't me. But he was a bit relentless and replied saying he thought it was me. Thing is unless he saw me actually typing the e-mail and sending it then he cannot concretely know it was me.

I just feel awful.

god, i'm so nosy.... what was the 'joke' ??

Starlight2345 · 07/10/2016 13:33

I guess the underlying reason is why? .

He is your ex for a reason..Whoevers side the break up was on...

You need to move on..

Veggiesupremeextracheese · 07/10/2016 13:34

We need more details! It doesn't sound like he is angry if he's asking how you are!

anonymousbird · 07/10/2016 13:36

Wondering why you did it and what you said now!

ijustwannadance · 07/10/2016 13:39

You clearly haven't moved on if you felt the need to contact him. Anonymously or not.

CotswoldStrife · 07/10/2016 13:40

Is this someone you work with?

EdithBouvierBeale · 07/10/2016 13:40

An ex you still have feelings for? Are things unresolved?

Who did you tell him you were?

Wdigin2this · 07/10/2016 13:41

Had drink been taken!! Lol

MoonfaceAndSilky · 07/10/2016 13:47

How did he know it was you?
Why did you e-mail him?
What was the joke?

So many questions.......

rollonthesummer · 07/10/2016 13:49

Why did you do it?!

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 07/10/2016 13:51

well so long as you did not reply "no it's NOT me" then continue with the denying

and let us in on the joke.

ChequeOff · 07/10/2016 13:51

What was the joke? It's important to know for context!

Nishky · 07/10/2016 13:53

Can I just ask, and I mean this nicely, why do you feel that you have fucked up? It all seems a bit minor.

You haven't admitted it, so you can keep denying. Is the fucked up part because it has upset you?

pregnantat50 · 07/10/2016 13:53

i think we do need to know the joke, it cant of been a bad one as he asked after you?

Hoppinggreen · 07/10/2016 13:54

Well it doesn't matter what he knows, only what he can prove

MmmCuriouSir · 07/10/2016 14:03

Own up. What's the worst that will happen? You'll probably stop worrying about it too.

CotswoldStrife · 07/10/2016 14:06

An anonymous account to send an email seems a bit drama-llama at the best of times, but you must have made it obvious that it was you by the tone of the humour and now it's all a disaster?

It wasn't you that posted about the curtain shop on here was it Grin

LadyConstanceDeCoverlet · 07/10/2016 14:08

Just ignore him, he's never going to know it was definitely you. And keep right away from now on.

GoofyTheHero · 07/10/2016 14:34

I think (and I mean this nicely) that if you're going to the trouble of setting up an anonymous email account to send something to your ex, and are so feeling so awful, you have some unresolved issues that you may need to work on.

Cabrinha · 07/10/2016 14:36

Well, the back story is important.
But to all those saying just deny deny deny...
Look at that from his side.
It feels shit.
Not quite sure you're right it was your ex, not thinking they're a liar, but wondering who else it could be.

If it was just a silly joke, then where's the harm admitting and apologising?
And if it was mean (so you are saying sent as a joke not an actual joke but actually rather shitty) all the more reason to admit and apologise.

Lorelei76 · 07/10/2016 14:37

I'm wondering what was in the email

but it's not like you sent him incontinence pads or subscribed him to a dodgy mailing list.

WaitrosePigeon · 07/10/2016 14:38

What was the joke Grin
