Tttetentendtendstends tto sslslmslmosalmost never traslate in person, so its kind of a useless way to judge.

You like his credentials, you are interesed. he is interesed enough to ask not once, but twice!!!

Go, have a coffee with him :) and see what happens.

Smart phone error there!!!

That was meant to say ' an online click tends to almost never translate in person though'

watch has too much sex compromised your ability to form a coherrent sentence? Not sure I want to tread that dangerous path?

alright. I'll give him my number.

maybe.

watchoutforthatsnail · 19/07/2012 12:58

Just do it :) It's only coffee, you already have a new dress :)

It's not like you are committing to marrying him, It's a date. And he's keen! And your type!!! So, give him your number... Maybe he wants to call???

Too much sex? Impossible!,

OP posts:
mercury7 · 19/07/2012 13:02

I prefer to make them beg for about 6 months before I agree to meet them :o

didnt like the dress in the end, it was a bit frumpy not enough cleavage it will have to go back.

oh! yay! he's 6ft 3! I can wear heels that i can't walk in

hatesponge · 19/07/2012 13:12

snape i agree give him your number..if you havent already bowed to the pressure Grin

I havent decided yet about Mr Jubilee, I really do hear all your (very good) advice, and know exactly why I shouldn't. If I was advising anyone in my position I'd say the same. But there is a certain something about him (probably some sort of subliminal biological urge as he is very alpha male-y). And in any event its almost certain nothing will come of it anyway, such is my luck.

izzyizin · 19/07/2012 13:22

Presumably the point of joining dating sites is to meet a wider range of potential squeezes/love interests than is available through one's existing social or professional circles?

Ergo what is the point of being 'wooed' by text/online messaging/phone calls by a random stranger when the chances are that they will fall short of their hype own publicity to the extent that a face-to-face meeting will not inspire any desire for a repeat encounter?

It seems to me that engaging in extensive correspondence prior to any meeting may raise expectations of having found a potential 'Mr Right' and engenders negative feelings about one's judgement and/or one's prospects of finding what one's looking for if they fail to measure up.

Isn't it better to meet likely candidates as quickly as possible on the basis of sorting wheat from chaff without getting unnecessarily covered in flour dust?

mercury7 · 19/07/2012 13:38

Izzy, I agree, but the majority of meetings evoke a 'no way, no how, beam me up scotty I dont want to be here' response.
After a while it's real hard to summon up any enthusiasm for further meetings.

Maybe some sort of reward system would work, eg give yourself a gold star everytime you go ahead & meet someone, 5 gold stars and you can have a cake/new lipstick/something or other
?

MyLittleMiracles · 19/07/2012 13:38

I bought a new top (looks guilty) it only cost 6pound though but I liked it, want it in white too though now. My place is getting cleaned up today.

snapespeare · 19/07/2012 13:43

izzy i do get that, but I like a little bit of on-line spark, a bit of flirting, so I can guage if it's worth trekking across London to meet someone that I may well have nothing in common with at all. its a delicate balance - too much information and you've formed an opinion, too little and I have no idea whether I'll be able to sit down and have a chat/coffee with someone. he has OK photos, they can obviously be misleading, he comes across as OK in his profile, even if that chat has been a bit stilted.

anyway. number dispatched. we shall see.

feelinglonely · 19/07/2012 13:48

agree with you "izzyizin" in my experience i wouldnt chat for long b4 a date.
School meeting this morning and there was my 46YR date(his ds same sch with my kids) standing at the corner stealing glances at me,lol.Had to go out as if taking little one to the loo and said hello. It was weird after what we did last date.He text if he can see me tmrw and how he will melt to see me Grin.He is good and seem genuine but not my type n didnt feel any attraction. Not sure but want to give him a chance and see how it goes.

izzyizin · 19/07/2012 13:56

Surely those are ones where you simply make your excuses and leave without sitting down within a very short time mercury?

Why are trekking across any distance to meet up with guys, snape? Surely you've got suitable venues within easy walking distance of your home for them to trek to if they wish to have the privilege of your company?

mercury7 · 19/07/2012 14:04

I never quite had the guts to leave without sitting down Blush

snapespeare · 19/07/2012 14:15

no, i think it's a question of splitting the travel. takes about an hour to get to where I might be going, so around half an hour would seem fair...

...question is whether it's worth half an hour of a trek... Hmm

watchoutforthatsnail · 19/07/2012 14:17

I do agree with izzy. The meet quick, daytime date, where you can make a sharp exit :) with little travelling/ expense to yourself.

And mercury, yes, it crap and I had no enthusiasm for it for ages and ages, but you have two choices, either a) leaving it to fate or b) just getting yourself out there and being open to stuff :)

So, mrl is indeed lovely. Text fron his work as firemen were doing some display and they had fire toys. He text me a pic of them, then asked if dd would like anything. And he brought her a yoyo :)
How sweet is that!!!!
Hes since taken it apart and decided its not the best and she needs a proper one, so is going to the toy shop on the way home as his work mate said they have good ones.

So, thats very sweet of him :) and is a nice easy lead in to Maybe introducing them when she's back from her dads mid august.

Ive spoken to her, because she saw the pic and picked what colour yoyo she wanted, so she knows he's my friend etc...... And she's doing him a thank you picture...

Was thinking about maybe all going to the zoo or something, that way It's on neutral ground, and somethihg fun is going on ( mrl loves animals as much as me) and should hopefully be positive for everyone :)

Good plan?

OP posts:
watchoutforthatsnail · 19/07/2012 14:23

Snape, but you wont know, unless you go:)

We need a new thread..... Whos doing it?

OP posts:
hatesponge · 19/07/2012 14:33

Not me, I am incapable of thinking of a witty thread title. Mine would just be some self pitying whine Blush

Lueji · 19/07/2012 14:54

The other day I thought that the new thread should be about getting second dates. Wink

But I'm not starting it, as I may feel the need to leave at some point. Unless Mr VN turns out as Mr Hide soon.

But, if trekking across town then might as well go somewhere interesting to make it worthwhile regardless. :)
Or make them come to you, even if it takes 1h.
Find an excuse not to travel.

watchoutforthatsnail · 19/07/2012 15:04

Leuji, stay :)
I'm.going to, I need to see everyone have some fab dates :)

Though I supose I'm not dating right now, but, well. Meh..doesn't matter :)

OP posts:
hatesponge · 19/07/2012 15:29

You will both be waiting an eternity extremely long time for me to get a second date!...I would invite bets, but it'd be too depressing. Not this year I dont think at least.

izzyizin · 19/07/2012 15:37

I appreciate that this question may be answered on the next thread, but why do you think you are not getting second dates, sponge?

And what proportion of the random strangers you have met up with would you want to meet for a second time?

As for the next thread I do hope that Mr Depp will continue to feature in the title - perhaps something of the lines 'still on our knees praying that Johnny D sees the light and joins POF'?

MyLittleMiracles · 19/07/2012 16:04

I get offered second dates just none that offer tickle my fancy. Mabe
